You hardly will find a summer sport where home advantage is so important :d

Congrats :GBR

Sailing for starters. Knowledge and extensive experience of local currents and winds is a huge advantage as we saw at the recent world championships.

Not sure that Mallory Franklin is the best person to hang that argument on as she has medalled in the C1 event at seven of the last nine world championships. Of her two failures one was at Lee Valley in 2015 so home advantage doesn't necessarily help her.

2013 - 🥈 2014 -🥈 2015 - No medal

2017 - 🥇 2018 -🥈 2019 - No medal

2021 - 🥈 2022 -🥉2023 - 🥇

And how many World Championship medals has Jessica Fox :AUS won at home?  :raspberry:

Exactly. Home paddlers rarely win on home waters in this event.

There’s certainly a statistical advantage in getting into the Final 10, but after that it’s as random as usual.

We have to change the meaning of the word "Rarely" then I guess...

Canoe Slalom is famous and well known for its home advantage factor, Lee Valley is for local paddlers the same as Prague-Troja for Czechs, Pau for french, La Seu for Spaniards, Augsburg for Germans,Kolna for Poles, Tacen for Slovenians or Liptovský Mikuláš & Čunovo for Slovaks. Athletes trains there daily, know very well the water changes and how to react to different gate patterns in their respective venues... It is like this forever

Even among paddlers it is a classic saying. Home water advantage is almost half of the success in canoe slalom

She rarely trains in Australia. Her literally home venues are Pau and La Seu, but, yes, even if we like her or not, Jessica is obviously a great paddler and generational talent, so that´s another topic

Then you'll be able to explain why in the twellve editions that this event has been included in the programme a home paddler has only won twice.

W C1 is still is still under development. Despite the home advantage, The differences between the girls in Canoe are still considerable.

Overall, Canoe Slalom is a very even sport nowadays, I repeated it often here, each year it is more and more even. You see lately nations failing to even qualify for the semifinals, which was impossible few years back.

and yes I agree that home water is not the sole factor to succeed, there also other multiple factors. The track setting itself, gate patterns with most tricky gates build on place favoring for example lefthended paddlers over righthanded and vice-versa (is in canoe slalom circuit the biggest advantage for local padddlers who use to train under those different gates variations on the track and learn how to react to them). but obviously there also others factors which remove or reduce the home advantage like the most obvious, the weather (especially wind different for each paddler) and strength, talent and skills of best high level paddlers who can succeed regularly on any water.
