We have to start with a very sad bit of news though. Martin Fitzmaurice has passed away at age 75 :cry:

 

For many years, when I wasn't watching PDC yet (mostly because tv didn't show it here and because I hated the "money federation" back then) the darts at The Embassy - The Lakeside - started with Fitzmaurice's legendary "Are you ready?!! Ladies and gentlemen....Let's! Play! Darts!".

Epic match between the Netherlands and Russia at the World Cup of Darts, where Aleksandr Oreshkin is sooooo slow and "weird" and fun and awesome :d 

 

Sad to see the Russians lost, it would have been awesome :(

Woah! A darts thread! I started watching darts around 10 years back when the rivalry between Phil 'The Power' Taylor :p and Barney was at its peak! Taylor's my favourite. Like Barney, Anderson and Van Gerwen too. Van Gerwen's a genius!

 

I took up to playing darts when I started watching it. Just got a new dartboard after a hiatus of a few years when I went to college :d. My dream is to score a 9-darter :bowdown:. Need to start by getting my first 180 :lol:

I haven't played in ages, I think it's 10-12 years ago since we had a dartboard in the room which later became my bedroom meaning there was no space for the board anymore :p 

 

I think my best throw was having 2 treble 20's in one throw, but never 180 :d

Today is an interesting day, with a whole lot of "exotic" nations playing in the World Cup. Reyes and Alcinas are taking on the English team and they might have a chance :)

 

About my favorites: Peter Wright, Michael van Gerwen, Simon Whitlock, Vincent van der Voort, Justin Pipe are some of the names I like. On the other hand, I don't like Taylor a whole lot and I'm definitely not a fan of Van Barneveld anymore. I was when I was little and he won The Embassy/Lakeside 1998 (my dad recorded the final and I think I asked a million times during the months after to see the last few darts, D16 and then Barney threw away his last dart :d ), but nowadays he is always so negative and that's so freaking annoying :p

Aah, yup. I saw a few of Barney's matches last year and he just wasn't mentally up to winning. How I wish for the Barney of the old to show up again.

 

Spain beating England has no chance :p. We can have a bet on that :p

After 1:50 hours the tiebreak starts, 2-2 in the final set :p

      This is not a full retirement, but kind of a break/sabbatical due to...reasons.    For those who have been following @brunamoura's journey towards and last February eventually, finally, at the Olympics, this might be an interesting update. The 2030 Olympics are still in her sight, but next year's world championships in February seem...unlikely.   She still needs to do at least two surgeries, one on her nasal cavities due to a chronic inflammation that has been bothering her for years, and one on her legs. In the Olympic season she struggled immensely with pain in her legs, which in the freestyle technique made her sometimes just not even able to move and therefore finish or even start the races. The Olympic 10k freestyle was hard and painful, but she managed to get through it. We knew she was dealing with compartment syndrome, which is quite serious and certainly needs to be dealt with surgically, but the recovery time for that meant that doing so during the season would likely jeopardize the Olympics - again.   The plan was to do the surgeries this year, but that's unlikely to happen now...

      My admittedly tiny sample at least made it feel like the safest and nicest place     Milan....I was very glad to be out of there, Bologna almost felt even worse, and I was also happy to leave Trento behind after barely a day there   Livigno didn't feel bad like that, the issue there is that Livigno people seem to believe the world outside of Livigno doesn't really exist.   Every time I have been in South Tyrol though, it always just felt...lovely, cozy, nice, friendly, and so on.   But obviously that is all a matter of opinion. Besides that I mostly went on statistics and Alto Adige generally scoring very high in things like quality of life and low crime rates

      Very interesting Article, not a lot of vast shocks in it, but great that she's found some happiness. She switched allegiance to Ireland from the US quietly a few years back, but I'd say the odds on her acting on it are pretty long - still, it maybe feels like a little statement of emancipation to herself, in which case, good on her.

      if you can find one of them being able to receive the ball, it's definitely an option worth to be explored by the coaching staff

      Had a very strange career. Absolutely looked like the Crown Prince when Bolt was King, but after Bolt retired his only medals were in relays, nothing at all solo.  Drug rumours did not help.
