In women's 3m springboard, :CHN Yiwen will almost certainly win gold, with :CHN Chang as the favorite for silver. But Chang may not even get past the prelims, as through two dives she's in 17th. If she does make it past prelims, and into the final, her silver medal is far from a guarantee, unlike other Chinese athletes. Wouldn't count out the likes of Valee, Ware, Sabri, and Pellecani on making it to the podium.

Vallee's not going to make it either at this rate. She's in big trouble after 3 dives.

Found this article on women's 3m bronze medalist McKay, during Tokyo 2020.

McKay was chosen at trials to compete at the 2020 Olympics. Just three weeks before she twisted her ankle badly, tearing ligaments along the side of her foot. Doctors told her it would take 8-10 weeks to recover. McKay told them she had a flight to catch in 2 weeks. The Doctors gave her a boot to wear around her ankle and a scooter that she placed her knee on to push herself around the Olympic village, taking the weight off her foot.

Not only did she compete with an injury, but she ended up placing 4th in women's 10m synchro platform with partner Benfeito, just 0.53 points outside of the medals (They were also in the silver medal position with two dives to go). And to come back from her injury and win a first career World Championships medal. Really inspiring.

:CHN Wang wins gold in men's 3m springboard. 19 year old :MEX Olvera Ibarra takes silver, and :CHN Long takes bronze. Great diving by all that competed. Incredibly impressed with the Mexican who scored 98.80 and 99.45 on his final two dives. Watch out for him on the road to Paris 2024.

great competition by the Mexican diver

he didn't compete in last year's junior worlds (nor in 2021), he would have been a fierce rival for :ITA Matteo Santoro (who's born in 2006, however)

ps it's true that you just can't compare diving scores like swimming or athletics marks, but Santoro got 550+ pts in his 2022 triumph...and you have to be pretty special to score like that with dives of 3.5 DD or less (it's a 90-pt+ average)

but let's keep going with Tocci and Marsaglia...Italy = gerontocracy, in actual life but also in sports :wall:

I thought UK will get easily all of places, here next one only 1. Congratulation for South Africa! Many of these places will be relocated.

Congratulations? She was put in the final by the judges. Truly disgusting, how her final dive earned the same score as Pellacani who actually deserved that score.

Both Mew Jensen and Mendoza were robbed with that last dive, as was Clare Cryan all through the phase.
