This day 1 schedule is not good for France. It won't be easy for them to get a gold on Day 1.

In Tokyo there was Men's 400m Ind Medley on Day 1...

Correction:

obviously M 400m IM was on day 2 in Tokyo as well, it was the 1st swimming finals session but it was on day 2 in the morning because of NBC.

anyway, you are right. Boukli is definitely a contender in W -48kg

and there should be many medals in judo for FRA

but I think they will have bigger chances in next days in this sport though...

Judo W -48kg, as it stands now:

1. Natsumi Tsunoda / Funa Tonaki JPN - only one athlete from any NOC can participate. @phelps what you think? who will get a spot in Team JPN here?

2. Shirine Boukli FRA - as "any other" option, 2 votes in the comments

3. Abiba Abuzhakynova KAZ & Julia Figueroa ESP

this one turned out to be very interesting imo

1.too early to call it right now.

at the moment, Tonaki is still the JPN no.1, but look for Wakana Koga, in 12 months time she could overtake both Tonaki and Tsunoda in their National ranking.

it won't be an easy choice for them.

2.she's definitely a medal contender, even if I think she's not going to win Gold.

there are at least 2 Japanese girls (atm, Tonaki and Tsunoda, but the 3rd -Koga- is coming) and Scutto, who are already better than her.

3.the KAZ girl is a good judo player, but she would need a favourable draw to make the medal matches.

Figueroa is a slightly better than average, experienced player. she's dangerous in any given match, but no way she can overtake many of the top 4/5 girls of this weight class in a whole tournament (still, an easy draw could help her to make the final block).

I didn't vote at all...

it's too early to make a proper prediction, therefore I'm not going to vote in this series of polls, I'm just giving an opinion if and when asked for...;)

Yes, i understand you.

i am beginning to feel that this series of polls is not a good idea. It is too early indeed.

but on the other hand it is very useful for me because other users can remind me about contenders I forgot like Galossi or Backstedt… or Boukli…
