@heywoodu @Agger @Jinzha @justony we should form a “Totallympics” team and do this:https://www.wingsforlifeworldrun.com/en (explanation below)

I’ve wanted to do it for ever, but I’ve never been prepared. I think I could do it this year (the mobile phone app version), and I’d love to do it as a team. Essentially, what happens is: Everybody in the world starts the race at the same time (no matter where they are). Their is a “chase” car that chases the runners at a pre-set pace. The goal is to go as far as you can before the “catcher” car catches you. At the “flagship” runs a bunch of people (thousands) come together and are chased by a physical car. Everybody else uses the app (which is what I’d be down to do with y’all). There are two options for the “app run”. First, you can go to a smaller version of a “flagship” run where there’s no chase car, but there’s still a tone of people, and you get a bib and what not. The second option is you download the app, and you run (wherever you want with service/data) until the app tells you the car has caught you. I’d love to form team and see how we can do. I’m not sure about price, but from my understanding the app run should be free, or quiet cheap (though this is a fundraiser for spinal injury research, so it’d honestly be rude not to pay a little).

I ran two times Wings for Life in Ljubljana, my friend (Vid Senica) even won Slovenian race, and for award he went next year to Florida. Sadly Ljubljana was cancelled, if there is no car to chase you, just plain app run is a bit boring and without any meaning.

After having to walk for the better part of the last two kilometers during my half marathon debut last year, I can now finally say....I did it! :yikes: I ran a half marathon distance for the first time in my life this morning :cheer:

To work around the GPS inaccurary of my Polar (I think it shows a bit more than the actual distance) I set it to 22km instead of 21.1km and finished that in a little under 2:20 hours. Nothing too fancy in terms of speed, but my only 'mission' apart from the distance was to keep running relatively easily and just finish the whole thing instead of blowing up my legs. That worked :cheer:

With this huge confidence booster in the pocket, now it's time to try and add a bit of speed for 4 April :)

Oh well. The corona has now hit my training plans as a race that I was considering in late march has been postponed. Guess that means self-training only :p

Less than 500km left in the plan before I'm on the start line ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

With every run possibly being the last one, I went for my first 15km about 1½ week before originally planned. Felt really great at a pace just about the 2 hour pace feeling that I could even have kept on.

I'm changing my schedule slightly to make room for a two week quarantine or a period of curfew (my 300m to the grocery store won't help much there). If it's more than that, we'll have to see if it works out.

16km today, another nice and pretty relaxed run (a little under 1:40), mostly after I managed to get my heart rate down a good bit after the first few kilometers :cheer:

I noticed after seven runs in March I'm already at 92.5km and with at least one more to go, I'll actually make or pass 100km in one month, I had never thought that would ever happen :yikes:

Since Saturday's half marathon in my little town is of course cancelled, which was supposed to be my second ever official one after my somewhat botched debut last year, there's a slight change of plans. I've been training of course and it's going pretty well, so I have more or less decided to go and run a half marathon anyway on Saturday, just on a different, not pre-determined route - I don't live in a city and it's pretty straightforward here to run while making sure you don't get too close to people. Not really a time goal here and I'm just gonna try and take it easy from the start on, but I'm in pretty decent shape so let's do it. Plus Saturday is the last day of Autism Week (which started Saturday the 28th here, for some reason), so that's an excellent goal for me to keep in mind as a way to close the week.

Tl;dr --> Saturday, half marathon.

Good luck!

I have pretty much decided that I'll go for the half marathon the day planned no matter if the big event will take place or not (not too optimistic, but the hope isn't dead), but I do afterall have some months to go. If it's cancelled or postponed, I'll try finding an actual race in the autumn.

Beginning this week with a weekly 15km all of april before starting to find the last kms (may go for a 16 in the end of the month)

Meanwhile I think my phone is trying to test my motivation.

Sunday the music stopped about halfways through my 13km run. Today I was doing a fitness test where I really want to be able to keep track on the minutes. Halfway through the phone decides to restart.

    • Additional Sports at Brisbane 2032   The final sports program for Brisbane 2032 can be reasonably expected in the first half of 2028, as occurred in 2024 when confirmation of the Los Angeles Olympics final sports program was announced.   T20 Cricket Cricket is a hot favourite to continue at Brisbane 2032 following it’s debut at LA2028.   77 countries play T20 Cricket world wide according to the latest ICC World Rankings.     Flag Football This sport is actually becoming very popular in Australia and also world wide.  There are 20 million players around the globe currently playing it.Flag    So, I think it has a better than even chance of being continued at Brisbane 2032.   Flag Football played in 100 countries, 20 million players world wide   Australia embracing the rise of Flag Football   Lacrosse This is another booming sport internationally.   Australia is ranked 4th in the world in both women’s and men’s Lacrosse. It’s another sport which has a good chance to continue at Brisbane 2032.   Lacrosse was played in the Olympics in 1904 and 1908. It was a also a demonstration sport in 1928, 1932 and 1948.    AFL Nines / Rugby League Nines Both AFL and Rugby League I believe will really struggle to win a spot at Brisbane 2032.   The days of “demonstration sports” is long gone from the Olympics and I can’t honestly see either making it on to the final Brisbane 2032 program.   Netball Fast5 With both women’s and men’s teams, I think that Netball Fast5 (women’s and men’s) has got a fair chance for inclusion in 2032.   Fast5 women’s world series competitions have been played since 2009 with men’s teams included since 2022.   Australian Men’s Team wins Netball Fast5 World Series and does viral dance   Incidentally, 50 countries currently play the regular Netball format with Australia ranked No. 1 in the world.   Baseball / Softball Both have been in and out of the Olympics over the years so much its hard to keep up.  They were recently dropped for Paris 2024 but included at LA2028.   It’s 50/50 if they will continue to Brisbane 2032.   Surfing and Sport Climbing Surfing and Sport Climbing will soon be formally added to Brisbane 2032 sports program with both having earned permanent sport status from LA2028 onwards.   3x3 Basketball 3x3 Basketball is already part of Brisbane’s sports program in 2032 and will be played at the Southbank Piazza.   Karate Following it’s debut at Tokyo 2020, Karate was dropped for the Paris 2024 and LA2028 and not looking good for Brisbane.   Breaking As we know, Breaking was dropped for LA2028 and I can’t see it being included at Brisbane 2032.   Permanent Status at Olympics   Once a sport is played at three consecutive Olympic Games, it becomes a permanent sport at the Olympic Games.   So from LA2028 onwards, the following sports will be permanent in future Olympic Games:   3x3 Basketball BMX Freestyle Skateboarding Sport Climbing Surfing
    • For that to happen, the IOC would first have to get agreement from international sporting federations, national olympic committtees and IOC members themselves to relax the current July/August Olympics hosting dates requirement and allow the Games to be held in the cooler months.     Many can be expected to oppose such a dates change as it be very disruptive to existing competitions.   When and if that such an IOC hosting rule change happens, it would certainly open the door from hot cpuntries like middle east nations such as  Saudi Arabia, Qatar or United Arab Emirates (Dubai) to host the Games say in cooler November-December.   We know that a Games in the oppressve July/August heat in the middle east would be impossible and deadly for athletes, officials and spectators.   So there’s a lot of hoops to jump through first before such a dates change can occur.  With Games in these New Norm days being awarded around 10 years or so ahead of the Games, that means there’s actually not a lot of time to get this through before 2026 comes around, which is the 10 year mark before a 2036 Summer Olympics.

    • What are your impressions of the Italian team in the first part of the season? What were your expectations?
    • The Italian team is still doing terribly. While there has been stabilization at an average level for women, there has been a dramatic downward slide for men. Today the only skier in the top 30 was Elia Barp - 23rd place. The rest without comment. Pellegrino is already going down due to age. De Fabiani is missing from 2 seasons, Graz isn`t making any progress. The only hope is Barp but he is also very unstable. Compared to the French team, we are 10 years behind I no longer believe that we will ever be reborn in this sport. If starting at home and having a theoretical advantage in materials, we are able to have 1 skier to 30 in the freestyle technique, which has always been better for us, it's hard to even comment on that.
