ugh, :CAY Crooks was leading for 3/4 of the race before fading over the final length. :AUS Australia takes both 100m finals to start the night

Yay I missed it, but our goal has been achieved. Semifinal for Slovakia

and completely unexpected by a surprising name. Tamara Potocká in the 100 medley (What a dumb event just by thinking about ) and in this occasion beat almost 23 years old NR of Martina Moravcová

Congrats Tamara. Well done, enjoy your semi :cheer:

Well i'm sad for Rūta but that should motivate her even more for the 50m,super happy for Danas tough, the qualifying swim looked rough, but he proved what he could do in the final with a season best, excited for his 200 metre start even more now.

I'm not sure anyone will be getting down to 45 flat.

well, Chalmers got really close...;)

and I also got both Grousset and Miressi at about 45.5.

only disappointing performance came from Popovici, but it was obvious since yesterday that he's not a short course specialist and, above all, he's not in top shape (and despite that, he was 4th, just a fraction behind silver and bronze).

from my personal perspective, also Martinenghi's silver is quite disappointing, more because of the time than the final position (I expected him close to 55.5 at least).

meanwhile the 4*50m free relay is disappointing from any POV...with Conte Bonin instead of Frigo to close down the job, it would have been an easy gold.

bad mistake by our coaches (who always insist on those internal trials between some of the boys in the heats, instead of having a fix team already before the beginning of the day).

Popovici exceeded my expectations entirely. The time he went with his physique in the small pool is just mindblowing because it favours explosiveness because of all the walls. Maybe he can take down Biedermann's supersuit WR in the 200.

I wasn't even expecting Australia to medal with that team but they really stepped up.

2nd Semifinal for Slovakia ! Christmas for Slovak swimming :d

Matej Duša made it to the 50 Freestyle semis from last possible 16th place :yes

Podmaníková 20th in the W 200 Breast and Lilian Slušná same rank in the W 50 free. Decent and acceptable results as well.

To notice also 10th place for Mixed 4x50 Free relay and 21st Nikoleta Trníková in the W 200 breast.

    • ""The most important thing, in my opinion, is mental preparation" - Maria Vynnyk said this on Thursday after winning the first major gold medal; maybe this is where the secret lies. As you said, Ukrainian girls have always been strong, but not dominant at continental level; my conjecture is that the Russian invasion has made them mentally stronger, giving them that extra edge needed to tilt the balance in the final stages of a competition.

    • Does the CAS have the authority to address from someone who believes the judges made a mistake in a given discipline? Pizzolato's last attempt at Paris 2024, which earned him the bronze medal, was controversial, but what does the CAS have to do with it? Even if the judges made a mistake then, the result won't change and this isn't the only case where someone feels wronged with this in world of sports. Unless, of course, they have some evidence of corruption or something like that
    • If Pizzolato will to return, would it be to the 86 kg category, or the 94 kg category, like Nasar? In 2024, they were both in the 89 kg category, which will no longer be at the Olympics, but in 2021 in Tokyo, Pizzolato won a medal in the 81 kg category.   Of course, it's unclear what's going on with the rape accusations- personally, unfortunately, I don't think he was ever a sweet angel- he was accused of other immoral things also 10 years ago, but gang rape? I find that hard to believe... Besides, Moldova has appealed about his bronze medal from Paris 2024 to the CAS- the verdict was supposed to be in February. Do you know anything about this? Did they have any grounds for this lawsuit at all?
    • Ukraine won 6 gold medals out of 10 in the women's competotion  + 1 silver and 1 bronze. Where do they get these girls from? It's always been a strong country, but they have never dominated like this. I wonder if their training methods would work in another country and if their coaches have any offerts to job from other countries? However, there is a significant decline in women's judo in Ukraine, so maybe they have directed all their resources and money towards wrestling?   In fact, Ukraine dominates Europe as much as Japan does the world- they have the best school in women's wrestling. In 2024, Ukraine only won 1 silver medal at the Paris Olympics? So even domination in Europe doesn't guarantee even 1 gold medal at the Olympics. Although, of course, if Italy for example, can't even win 1 bronze medal at the European Championships, then there's no point in even going to the World Championships...
    • Sablikova started on the road cycling and just almost qualified for Rio 2016. Maybe Lollobrigida would like to join the Italian track team? She has the good character and 2 medals at the Olympics, one in winter and one in summer, would be a legendary achievement, not only in Italy.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martina_Sáblíková
    • One Wiebes is worth more than the all Italian team with Balsamo/Fidanza, etc., that much clear. Even if the Netherlands loses its dominance in the men's sprint, Wiebes will win 2-3 gold medals in other events. Just relax, man.
    • I'm most worried about our women's team in the pursuit – we have a reserve squad, but not advancing to the top 8 is a shame. We recently competed with out 1 team and had not good in 1 round. It doesn't look good. And the Netherlands are already taking Wiebes to the track team and will soon dominate the Madison/Omnium as well. Balsamo and Paternoster haven't made any progress for years and the our women's team at the Olympics has little chance to win a medal. Italy might even win World Championship/European Championship gold in the years after the Olympics, etc., but when the real fight comes, the UK or the USA will always beat us
