Yeah I thought it was very exaggerated but players often will look for anything to motivate themselves.

Also, maybe the usual dutch bluntness is not well received or understood in some places. Here you simply don't point out weaknesses of opponent players/teams before a game. Even if it's something mild and evident like "Messi doesn't press". You are expected to always "stay humble" and only praise them or not say anything.

This. I am very much used to it now and find it actually useful but using the famous "dutch directness" in Latin/Southern European countries is not recommended haha

Is it also part of the football culture to twist the words of coaches? Like with Van Gaal, who said nothing special or weird at all ("We trained a lot on penalties, so I'm confident if it gets to that" and "Messi isn't usually very present in defending, so yes, of course we have a plan, like we do for every opponent"), and this nothing special or weird or provocative or aggressive was apparently somehow turned into 'a big provocation'? :p

LDOG explain well and i agree with him, so i only "expand" his concept: here the fans can make, say etc "close" to what ever they want to but is all the contrary with coachs and players: if you say something "negative" even it is totally true like Van Gaal says about Messi: you are "boqueando" (provoking), like LDOG sayed: here the players and coachs only says things like "they are a good team, with good players but we trust in us/i think we can win", here it calls "the cassette" (say all the same about all teams), imagine i was less than 10 years and i ask my father "why always the same respect even with very bad teams" and he explain me this "stricted honor football code" :p.

Another european with an european rival....ok.

It's farfetched they would choose Asian or African referee for this one. Barton is a long shot for the other SF, media in Poland still claim Marciniak has a chance for that one but I don't buy it. My money is on Makkelie for France vs Morocco with a non-UEFA referee for the 3rd place playoff.

Ah, I see. So in reality it's not provoking, but mostly people choose to see it that way? I guess it's also part of wanting something to 'fight' against, it's often easier (and more fun) to be playing an 'enemy', even if needing to twist meanings a bit to make the other team the enemy :p

There was not a lot of directness in this specific case though :d

Coach was asked if he has a plan for player X, and he simply makes an observation about player X. Not 'he is not good', or 'he is bad', just an observation about someone's playing style.

It's nothing more than what goalkeeper Noppert said after the match against USA, when being asked about playing Messi next: "He's great, but for me he's still just a player who's shots I have to stop." There is hardly a world imaginable where that is provocative :d

Oh well, I guess tiptoeing around everything annoys people here, while getting to the point annoys people in other places, it is what it is and a bit of fuel to the fire of a rivalry (even if only one side sees it as fuel) is never bad in any sport. The end of this match would not have been so tense and full of passion if it was NED against, say, Sweden :d

What was the problem with that? The referee in NED - ARG was honestly awful, but at least he was not really favouring any specific side. He just seemed to lose control after giving a first yellow and then gave everyone and their mother yellows for whatever :p

actually i was 100 % Loris will save 1st penalty , it's just something logic that he knows very well where Harry Kane shots as they're teammates for 10 years or something and with 2nd time i was also sure that Loris will save it , maybe it was better to change Harry Kane in 2nd time with Mount for example idk

    • In my opinion, the maximum period in power should be 8 years. Next to, it's already too long, especially since Hungary's economy is much weaker than earlier. Just as Italy has too many changes of government, Orbán's 16 years in power is definitely too long for me. Perhaps only Erdogan and Putin have ruled in Europe longer, but those are semi-dictatorships.    In the USA, just about two weeks before the election, bookmakers were betting heavily on Trump, from what I remember good. They were more wrong in 2016 with Trump and Clinton – then, Clinton was expected to win clearly until the very end.
    • Fraud hopefully not, it's true that everyone says it will be like 50-50% as far as the winner is concerned. Hopefully the moron (ov) loses but honestly don't know what will happen.  My main concern is that it was said about the 2024 US election that it will be very close and then what happened... (I mean hopefully these opinion polls are more reliable than the American ones)
    • According to our bookmakers, Orban could lose after so long time, but I've read that there may be electoral fraud. What do you think?
    • Good to know there will be a women's hockey wch in Budapest this year. Admittedly I was out of the loop for many sports recently (only followed the winter sports world cup circuit prior to the Olympics and not everything from there even) According to Wikipedia the first day of the competition will be Election Day (12 April) Hopefully this will not be a bad omen for any of the teams involved....
    • This year, Italy will play against Slovakia in the women's hockey World Championships in Budapest in April. Who do you think will be the favorite?
    • Don´t want to speak about Slovak politics amigo. They all were, are and will be greedy, uneducated and corrupted bastards. Point.   Back to sport. We suck as hell, but we know it, However, that´s not a reason to not enjoy the Olympics, it is a once in a 4 years time holiday of sport

It seems to me that in Poland, the president has much more power than in Italy or Slovakia. Btw., during the Yanukovych era, Ukraine also wanted to organize the Winter Olympics in Lviv in 2022
