time for a little update

because of new rules in Iran. people who are "retired" can't work anymore in government-related jobs. and what's a government-related job ?! any kind of organization that gets financial help from the government. by this definition all sports federation in Iran will be applied to this rule. they excuted this few days and this made a chaos in the whole system. so many had to leave their jobs which means right now so many sports federations in Iran are without a president or general secretary etc. but the problem is some international federations considering it "government intervention" and they are investigating this. some "suspensions" are quite possible now. in Iran they only let the "football federation president" to keep his job mostly because they know FIFA is no joke and the guy in head of the federation found a way to stay in his position (at least for now) on a technicality. still some of his stuffs had to resign. which means AFC/FIFA still will investigate this. some people here expect us to receive "suspension letter" from FIFA in next few days right before the AFC Asian Cup. :(

I think right now more than 10 federations are without president here. Handball, Volleyball. Judo. Rowing/Canoeing, Karate, Triathlon plus few more I can't remember now beside them I can add wrestling and Hockey to the list for different reasons. some of them just resigned earlier to not make a mess but some of them (specially volleyball guy) didn't let it go without a fight. he left it in the very last day not before informing FIVB. he was TERRIBLE in his job in 11 months of his job. we will see if FIVB takes action but even FIVB probably knows he was such a jerk and maybe they let it go. while it was a positive change in Volleyball, I can't say the same about other sports, specially Judo and Karate.

But wait, if you're president of a federation, that means you have a job and are by definition not retired, or am I missing something?

.

That's the point, this new law (which already existed but they enforced it) is barring the employment of retirees in government, state or public institutions which use state funds or facilities.

Only 4 changes comparing to the World Cup squad. Ghafouri, Kanaanizadegan, Nourollahi and the reserve GK Niazmand. we are missing some injured players, two of them are key players, Ali Gholizadeh (Charleroi) and Saeid Ezzatollahi (Reading). we had high hope on Gholizadeh, I would replace anybody else in the squad with him :( Ezzatollahi was also important player , his replacement Ali Karimi (Esteghlal) also got injured and missed the tournament. another injured player is Kaveh Rezaei (Brugge) even though I'm not sure if he would make the final squad. Queiroz doesn't believe much in him.

Today we had the last round of the trials to select our Taekwondo team for the World Championship in UK, which was very important because this is the main even to collect points for the World Ranking and the Olympic qualification. we had Fajr Cup and WTF President Cup (G2) both of them in Kish Island couple weeks ago and after that coaches selected 5 members of the team. we had trials today for 3 more weights. here is the team

54: Armin Hadipour

58: Mohammad Hassan Palangafkan

63: Soroush Ahmadi

68: Mirhashem Hosseini

74: Amir Mohammad Bakhshi

80: Mehran Barkhordari

87: Erfan Nazemi

+87: Sajjad Mardani

Hadipour, Mardani, Hosseini and Ahmadi were selected because of winning the WTF President Cup, they also sent Bakhshi (Asian Games silver medalist) to 74kg after he lost to Hosseini (beat him later in Fajr Cup two days later) to have both of them in the team. important note that Mardani beat Asian Games Champion Saeid Rajabi twice (in Fajr Cup final and President Cup final) to make the team.

but we had trials in other 3 weights today. we were supposed to have Ashourzadeh, Kazemi and Palangafkan competing for the 58kg spot but Kazemi (World GP medalist) withdrew and surprisingly former World Champion Ashourzadeh lost twice to youngster Palangafkan and will miss the World Championship. I think it's fair to say he also missed his chance for the Olympics as well :( which is really sad, 4 years ago at this time he was destroying everybody while he was 18-19.

at 80kg after Khodabakhshi's problems (not committing to the training etc) we had two youngsters competing for the spot. 17 years old Barkhordari beat Erfan Nazemi and won the NT place. we were supposed to have Saeid Rajabi (AG Champion in +87kg) competing for the spot but he withdrew claiming he has to cut too much for that weight. the other guy in this weight didn't satisfy the coach. so they told Erfan Nazemi (who lost 80kg trial before) to have another trial which he won and made the team one weight up. the original decision was to not send anybody at 87kg (cuz Iran is very weak here) but they finally decided to give the chance to Nazemi.

by selecting this team Iran officially gave up trying for the Olympic quota at 80kg, without Ashourzadeh, now Hadipour is our only chance to qualify at 58kg, Mirhashem Hosseini is also probably our only chance for 68kg (since they sent Bakhshi to 74kg) and of course now without Rajabi there is only one man for +80kg which is Mardani. the rest of the team are very young and very low in the ranking and even if they win the World Championship they can't collect enough points for the Olympic qualification.

the last time I updated this thread was 2 years ago :d

OK time for a little Olympic-related information

while everything is frozen here because of the new year holidays we had our Olympic trials in freestyle wrestling 2 weeks ago. that was only in 2 weights for some weird reasons and these guys secured their place in the Olympic team. no surprise since they both won the quota in Kazakhstan as well.

57: Reza Atri

86: Hassan Yazdani

this is the 86kg trial match, where the Olympic Champion Yazdani beat World U23 Champion Kamran Ghasempour 5-2. the last time they faced (in 2019), more than 12,000 came to the stadium to watch them wrestle. this time it had to be in an empty hall

    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same

Overall, there's a lot to do, for example, compared to Budapest, but unfortunately, this is Italy How many years has Roma been building their new stadium, and they keep pushing back the completion date- now I read it's 2030? and it should be ready. The same goes for Milan- there should be a modern complex of indoor swimming pools with 50 meters pools, etc., but there's a problem with one stupid football stadium, which will only be built after an ultimatum from UEFA

She wasn’t a top-tier athlete in that program anymore. She was at the end of her career. I would personally would rather race against Katie. She’s not as competitive as the other athletes,” he said. “It’s probably really unfair to say and not really where I want to go with this but that’s where we are with that.”   Uhlaender: “If I were Canada, I would be concerned in how this coach is representing the Olympic values for his country,” Uhlaender told Fox News Digital. “He hurt a whole field of athletes, all with dreams, and this sends the message that they don’t matter unless they are number one. All athletes matter, and we all deserve to compete fairly, with integrity, and respect. He did not respect anyone in that field. “This is not about my resume or how good the athletes were in the race. This is about the fact that he intentionally manipulated the competition to hurt myself and 13 other countries because he felt it necessary to eliminate all possibility. That is against the spirit of sport and not what the Olympic movement represents.”   Isn't it great when other people's dirty laundry is aired?  /sarcasm     (I was a little surprised to see NPR pick this up, but per this article, Uhlaender preemptively recorded the phone call after receiving a text from Cecchini that said he had 'bad news' for her.)
