Canada can only enter a max of 130 athletes (minus para sport) across these sports at Birmingham 2022:

Is there a list per nation anywhere or did you only get Canada's quotas?

Yeah, the athlete quota is very tight at the Commonwealth Games

I got Canada's directly from the CGA

It is very tight. No clue how they will do it...

Judo usually sends a B team, so maybe they might not compete in the sport all together.

Id also expect B teams in Athletics and swimming

Normally I don't think they send a B team in swimming, but given there are worlds in 2022 they probably will.

Cycling Canada has 14 slots.

Id suspect:

Endurance men: 4 slots

Endurance women: 4 slots

Sprint men: 1 spot

Sprint women: 3 spots

Mountain biking: 1 in each men and women.

No road cycling specific quotas.

Do we have enough talent to justify a third sprint women? Will the sprint team be three people? I guess at that point the 14th quota probably doesn't have much of a chance at winning a medal (unless they can convince Michael Woods to compete in the road race) so it may go to whoever is having a good season.

I think the women's team sprint will be 3 athletes.

OTP also takes into account athletes with potential so while diving had a poor Olympics, they're still one of the strongest teams for Canada, especially now that the men are on an upswing. They may suffer cuts because they were getting a lot of money for a relatively small team, but I don't see it being a whole lot.

Tennis is an interesting sport where most of the money goes to training young players rather than going to our top players. Golf is sort of in the same boat. OTP's mission is to increase the medal count at the Olympics so in that way I can see those sports receiving less funding, but if they want to encourage/inspire people to take up sport, I can see why they may keep the funding.

    • Of the top teams the world with traditions, only Portugal didn`t play in 3 World Cups in a row: 1986-2002 (1990, 1994 and 1998), but then fewer teams played in the World Cup than now. I don't really remember what caused the crisis in Portuguese football in the 1990s or how it was done with this later? Perhaps we should follow their example?
    • Well... If not qualifying for the World Cup for the third consecutive time isn't enough to bring about change in Italy, I can't imagine what will be.
    • Gravina is simply stupid and probably has some kind of hold over other important key figures in Italian football, since he was elected in 2024 with a majority of over 90% of the votes... I have a hard time imagining it any other way. Compared to him, even Carraro, Berlusconi and Moggi seem like nice and kind gentlemens   Some people believe that Calciopoli in 2006 began the decline of Italian football and that may be true. It only got worse from there, not counting a single accidental Euro 2021 win- something similar to Greece in 2004. In 2009 Roberto Baggio prepared a 900-page report on necessary reforms in Italian football, but the then-FIGC board tossed it into the trash bin. Now we see the consequences...
    • I thought our former football President was greedy, selfish, power hungry and delusional, but apparently he has an equal counterpart in Gravina. Some people just lack common decency.
    • Well, it's possible that Italians may be more bitter towards short track officials after the robbery they perpetrated against Sighel at the Olympics and therefore more willing to comment and criticize them, but it doesn't make the decision any less ridiculous.   Also, the fact we are Italians, and therefore used to the low standards of football refereeing, makes us especially qualified and trained to identify biased/crooked/incompetent judging
    • I think it was never in the history of our sport has there been anyone as brazen and stupid as Gravina. Before presidents would resign, or at least hide for a while, rather than go into a full-blow scandalous attitude with full larrogance and pride. I hope this idiot gets fired anyway, even if he doesn't resign.
