Byron McDonald said on the commentary to expect a team that could be as high as 23 or 24 swimmers to be announced likely tomorrow but maybe later tonight.

I really do hope that in events where a Canadian didn't hit the A standard but are younger and a possibility for future world championships or Olympics are part of the team.

The issue with this is they have to be invited by Fina....looking at the 2016 lists...not many were. 2020 has less quotas and universality is not capped like it was in 2016. I highly doubt it sadly.

With the end of swimming trials, we begin with athletics on Friday.

Events with Olympic ramifications to look out for Friday:

400m hurdles women: Noelle Montcalm, with a SB and win will move into 38th in the WR (top 40 qualify)

Men's decathlon: Taylor Ehrhardt begins his comeback, with a lot of injuries the last few years. Will need a 600+ PB to get the standard to qualify.

400m men: Osei/Misner Daley need the standard to qualify, both off by just over half a second

100m women: Bingham needs the standard atp to qualify. She is just 0.01 off from her SB

100m men: Whoever wants to make the team needs the standard. Smellie is currently in a WR spot, the other two De Grasse/Boateng not competing.

Long jump men: Jared Kerr is back, 8.14 PB, will need 8.22 to qualify

800w: Butterworth/Bishop/Kelly need good times (2:00) or less and a top 3 finish to clinch a spot

Women's steeplechase: Yee/Butterworth with a top 3 finish and timings around their PB (9:31) should get them a WR spot, but they should honestly go for the standard to guarantee their spots.

Was looking at B standard swimmers:

Mack Darragh is 3rd in the rankings of non-qualified swimmers in the 200m butterfly. 5 qualified through the OST in Rio.

Eli Wall is 6th in the 200m breaststroke. 4 qualified in Rio.

Would swimming Canada bring them now that they announced the team?

The announcers re: Nathaniel Mechler, car broke down on the way from presumably Toronto to Montreal in the middle of nowhere. Due to covid regulations, cannot ride in the tow truck, so he hid in the trunk of the car for 45 mins so he can make the nationals. What dedication!

Women's 800- Lindsay Butterworth wins the Canadian championships with the automatic Olympic qualifying time 1:59.19, However, Melissa Bishop did not look her best, hoping she can improve before the Olympics. Bishop was also right on the standard.

Third was Madeleine Kelly, and she will improve her rankings to 39th out of 48th, giving her some breathing room.

I didn't see the race but Bishop-Ngriau is really good at peaking at the big events. Hopefully she's on that trajectory again.

    • Those hurt, especially not one but two countries that have never missed a single contest likely missing out now     Where did everyone go?   Edit: I see Slovenia is in, that's fantastic news! Brazil though...   I think I'm going to ask if @brunamoura wants to come up with a song, despite really not having lots of time for it due to training and work. With some luck, she can listen the playlist on Spotify during training or something and get a bit of a sense of which songs she likes. If that's acceptable for people of course, I can perfectly imagine people wouldn't be too happy with that since we literally share a household and it might be seen as a conflict of interest (although anyway I always only tell her my favourite songs after I sent my votes).
    • Announcement:   I'm going to extend the deadline for countries submission to Monday 30th September at 23:58 BST, with the voting now not opening to the public until Wednesday 2nd October at 23:58 BST. I felt this was necessary to do due to the lack of nations + the lack of some of the major players and not due to me failing to come up with an entry (@Vektor) that I will be posting after this announcement. This will be the last deadline that is moved, with the only dates potentially moving being the final dates.
    • looking at the  Junior WCH (U-20) results so far, seems like USA is gearing up. the target would be to challenge China in LA 2028 and snatch few gold medals here and there.   p.s: China is not participating in Junior WCH     I am wondering if we can see USA in good shape in Bahrain WCH too
    • Is Trump becomes President is he really going to let in the likes of Iran if they qualify. Fifa could protest if he won’t but sort of cancelling it they don’t have much leeway.
    • SLOVENIA  Magnifico - Hir aj kam hir aj go     Robert Pešut, better known as Magnifico is one of most established Slovenian singers. He started his solo career more than 30 years ago.   Few weeks ago, he celebrated this jubilee with special concert in front of more than 20.000 people on special site in Ljubljana. Maybe does not seem a lot, but here there were not many concerts played with that crowd.   He is known for his special type of humour in his music and lyrics. Around 20 years ago he sold album Export Import, from which most known song is "Hir aj kam hir aj go", which was received well in other countries, especially in Italy.   Just another fact, Magnifico wrote two Eurovision songs, Sestre - Samo Ljubezen (Only Love) in 2002 and also for Montenegrin performer Rambo Amadeus (Euro Neuro).   He tried himself to perform at Eurovision, but with his still very well known "Silvija", ended 5th in EMA 1998 (Slovenia National Final).   SONG LYRICS
    • Oh how I’ve missed Canucks hockey, Silovs with another beauty of a save
    • Round of 16 - September 24th    1 - 3     5 - 0
    • Think I'm gonna extend the deadline to another day, we've got plenty of time to spare and I shouldn't take too long to vote.
    • Today it was Olof’s 4th birthday. Love you my sweet boy.
