Team Ireland - Paris 2024 Qualification Tracker

Recommended Posts

Whether it’s publicly announced or not, the boxers will have been told who’s going to that first one. Broadhurst and Lisa O’Rourke have both had injury issues so may not be close to ready. Broadhurst had the first chance despite losing the Irish title last year so can’t really complain if Walsh gets first shot this time round (as good as she can be)

The coaches have been watching them for months, so will definitely know more about form and fitness than we do. Broadhurst may go like Joe Ward and be one of our brightest talents never to make an Olympics, but she has no one to blame but herself if that’s the case

Have to admit I am flabbergasted at the 66kg decision but the coaches know a hell of a lot more than me.

Yeah. Selection stuff never bothers me. A key line in the press release might be talking about those selected being committed.

Talent is never the only criteria

Both men and women’s hockey teams 1 win (with 2 chances) away from Paris.

Competition definitely tough but they have really been playing well so far in their tournaments.

Fingers crossed to have the biggest ever Irish Olympic team!

I think the men have a 50/50 shot. Women have a harder task

Both Korea and Great Britain are beatable  -Korea maybe slightly more so. Last cycle one team just got through, one team just missed out. Suspect we may have similar this time, but neither Irish team are mugs, and none of the remaining semifinalists are either.

By the way, this has been a super cool qualification tournament all round

Heartbreak for the women's team - had an amazing tournament.

Fantastic to see the men's team qualify!

Panned out as I suspected, mirror of 2020, Girls miss out last gasp, Boys make it last gasp. If forced to choose, nice for the lads to get a shot at the  Games as well as the brilliant women's team

    • Shades of 1998 with  and  in the same group but this time it's really a terrible draw for the Thistles. I recall Brazil and Scotland played in the same group in 1974 and 1990 too so that's quite a high probabiliy rate.

    • I think I can live with the draw , not a bad group at all. just a week ago our mafia coach said his dream group is Belgium, Egypt and Haiti, he almost got that !   but it's really hard for me (and so many others) to cheer for this team, A mafia boss coach, disgusting group of players. I never had this feeling about any NT in any sport before but still the national team is the national team. you have to like it  coaches and players come and go, the team is what matters.   if the team makes it to the competition, I'm sure there will be lots of Iranians in the stadium despite the orange's ban, that will never be a problem.
    • Belgium is the luckiest in this story
    • One of the worst possible draw for us. Group really easy but having to face  or  in the Round of 32 is devastating.
