Swimming at the Aquatics LEN European Championships 2022

Recommended Posts

Paltrinieri's race was really a big blow for us, but we immediately made up for that with the unexpected gold in the women's 100m backstroke...

unfortunately the women's 50m breast are out of reach tomorrow...

and I'm really curious to see Popovici over the 400m free...I think he may well shock the world...

Just came back from probably the most awful concert experience of my life where I had to try to stop myself from sneezing on stage for two hours

Seeing Rūta Meilutytė swimming a Lithuanian record in 50m Breaststroke brought a smile on my face

Solid day for us with our guys Christou (100 backstroke), Gkolomeev (50 freestyle) and Vazaios (200 IM) all qualifying for their finals. Could be a busy day for them tomorrow as I hope they will also be competing in the men's 4x100 medley relay together and hopefully in the final there too.

All three of them have won European medals in these races in the past, so hoping for at least two more medals tomorrow :)

It seems Sweden took silver in diving 1m longboard. Emma Gullstrand. Italy took gold and bronze. :d

But isn’t there a thread about Diving or is it here we should discuss it? :mumble:

Danas Rapšys is not starting in the 400m Freestyle.

He said that he is unhappy with the current form and these results are not what he was training for.

He also added that he doesn't want to swim just to make the final and he is going to focus on the men's 4x100 medley relay, but our backstroke and butterfly are so underdeveloped, that I don't really see any glimpses of a good result.

no, there isn't a dedicated thread, but we can use this for sure (I don't think there will be many posts about diving, even if the Europeans without Russia are more interesting than ever)...

scary appearance by Popovici in the heats of the men's 400m freestyle...

he did swim 3.47 with such an easy, relaxed stroke...

I think he's going 3.42 with one arm later this afternoon, if he only wants...

by the way, last night part of the infrastructure in Ostia, where the Open Water Swimming competitions will be held, has been damaged by the bad weather...

therefore the Open Water events have been rescheduled and will start on Friday instead of Thursday to complete the necessary repairings...

update...

not only the races have been rescheduled, but also the start/finish procedures will be very different from what was initially established...

there will not be any usual pontoon, the start of each race will be from the beach (with the swimmers running a few meters to reach the water) and the finish will be in truly open water, about 200m from the shore (and not close to the audience, as it usually happens nowadays)...

moreover, not so flat sea is expected during the weekend, so we might be able to watch quite a different kind of races than the most recent events (very curious to see how the pool specialists will adjust to that, in case)...back to the old glory days of open water swimming! :d

    • In a country as big as , the odds of Olympians being close to you are quite small; however, once I realized several months ago that even a state as small as mine hosts Olympians on occasion, I decided to scour each sport's calendar to make sure I caught them when they come around.  That led me to the middle of nowhere in my own state today, where there was a 4* Eventing competition, featuring a couple of Olympians and/or World Champion athletes.   Most all the athletes here were local or from USA, but there were a couple who compete for   or .  When we walked up, I had no idea what I was doing.  I thought I was in the right arena at the venue, but I didn't really see anyone there.  (There weren't any stands full of spectators, nor did I see any judges...it was time for dressage.). One of the ladies turned around and we struck up conversation.  Turns out I was in the right spot, and they were just on a short break.  She directed my attention to the upcoming athlete, Caroline Pamukcu.  Thanks to my research ahead of time, I knew she was on the Paris 2024 Eventing Team.  The lady we were talking with was the owner of the horse Caroline was riding.  After she finished with her dressage round, she got off the horse and was just standing there talking with her crew.  We went over and had a brief chat and one of the other ladies offered to take our picture.     I asked Caroline if she was aiming for LA28, and she said yes.  I've also since shown the girls and wifey the video from her Paris 2024 jumping competition.  Hope she makes the team this year!   (Caroline has a Gold Individual Eventing and Silver Team Eventing medal from the 2023 PanAms.  Boyd Martin from the Paris team was also there, himself having a WCh Silver and three gold PanAms.  Tamra Smith, who has a Silver from the 2022 WCh, was there as well.  Waylon Roberts, who represents  and has a PanAm Silver competed.  I saw a few more Dressage rounds, then watched them all do the Jumping.  Didn't get to see Cross-Country, but they'll have another similar event in October.)
