Olympics is one thing that might work in LA. Other than that you're competing with Lakers, Clippers, Dodgers, USC and maybe the Rams. It's a no-win contest for PanAm or Youth Games and other stuff. Nobody would give a damn about that.

True, but they’d serve as good test events, and were not really losing money to host them. Tickets would still sellout and people would still be interested. There’s 15 million within 3 hours of city, there is bound to be enough interest. The only thing to compete with in the summer is baseball. The Angles won’t be problem because they’ll be ass like every year (they’d probably already be like 30-60 by the time the games roll around), and Dodgers will throw it away in the playoffs anyways :p. So not much to compete with.

Does it really make sense to use the Memorial Coliseum for anything other than Summer Olympics? Probably not. What is your next best shot? Rose Bowl? Still too big for stuff like Youth Games. Obviously the Angels are only merely relevant these days because of Trout, nobody cares about what happens in Anaheim. Los Angeles is doing fine without the "test events" as you call them. And I bet you're confident enough to sell the SOG without these test events to begin with :p

We could use something like The Forum, Dolby Theatre, or any assortment of college stadiums. Anaheim is pippin’ right now by the way. That’s where the sports and arts scene is in LA right now. They been hosting more and more international sports. The convention center there is very nice. They also have a 10,000-15,000 seat indoor arena there too. We clearly do need the additional multi-sports games, but I want them :d.

I remember when Rams had to settle in Anaheim because they were drawing dead in LA and it still didn't work. There's just too much in-house competition in LA for anything like PanAm or Youth Games to have a shot of being a sell-out success IMO.

I'm shocked The Forum is still operational, it's been 20 years since Lakers left? The colleges are all doing mighty fine inside the NCAA system, they don't really need these test events IMO.

Yeah The Forum still hosts concerts rather regularly. There’s also big Venues of that caliber in Ontario, Anaheim, Irvine, Long Beach (The Pyramid ), and UCLA. We also have the Stub Hub Center where the Galaxy play, and the new stadium where LAFC play. There’s also the USC Arena that will host badminton in 2028.

The new stadium in Inglewood will probably be hosting more than just Rams/Chargers games in the future? Unless Kroenke tells everyone to bugger off or demands too much leasing money :p

It’s already slated to host the opening ceremonies in 2028. LA wants to be the first city to have two stadium hosting the opening ceremonies at the same time.

What's the point of this anyway?  They could alternate opening & closing ceremonies between the two stadiums but the same one on both of them? Kroenke's ego must be frickin' hilarious (there's a vague chance he won't live that far though :pope: ).

I have no clue what the plans are, as it is still just under 9 years away (!), but I trust the LA2028 OC.

    • those who say that in the future, due to global warming and lack of snow, all sports at the Winter Olympics will have to be held indoors. Do you even think about what you are talking about? The FIS Cross-Country World Cup distances are 20 km skiathlon and 50 km mass start. Is there even a facility in the world that can host 20 and 50 km races? Is it possible? Well, let's imagine that such a facility was built somewhere in Paris and Monaco. Les Rousses spent so much money on building the tracks and infrastructure and then kicked it out of the FIS Cross-Country World Cup because Paris and Monaco, which have more money came to the FIS Cross-Country World Cup. Places like Les Rousses would simply go bankrupt trying to popularize the FIS Cross-Country World Cup, do we really need that?
    • Any word about TV Coverage?  Discovery has the five senior races as normal, but no sign of the age group races.  Locked away on Belgian payTV?
    • Ah good, was wondering what the relationship of Endurance Rowing was to Coastal Rowing.  They're wimping out a bit holding it at Genoa though, would prefer somewhere a bit more storm-tossed.
    • This was pretty fun to watch  Coverage was fine, racing was fun, no problem at all.
    • Thanks @phelps for gathering information   but World Skate is an Olympic federation now, yet they can't provide a basic result system for their main event.    OK I'm not asking for a live score system, but how hard it is to post results in PDF after each event ?    not talking about the sport but this IF doesn't deserve to be in the Olympics.
    • from Thursday, Sept. 12th through Sunday, Sept. 15th,  Genua hosts the Coastal Rowing World Championships in the Olympic Format (Beach Sprint)   it's the first championship since the discipline has been elected to the Olympic stage   last week, the Endurance World Championships were also held in Genua     the champions:   CW1x:  Monika Dukarska   CM1x:  Finlay Hamill   CW2x:  Katharina Lobnig, Magdalena Lobnig CM2x:  Igor Khmara, Stanislav Kovalov CW4x+:  Anna Sarah Sophie Souwer, Kiri English-Hawke, Marieke Keijser, Karolien Florijn, Dieuwke Fetter CM4x+:  Yuriy Ivanov, Mykola Mazur, Ivan Futryk, Ivan Dovhodko, Anastasiia Kozyr CMix2x:  Patricio Rojas Aznar, Amanda Gil Camacho
    • One more nation to reach decent number of 30 participants.
    • Inline Slalom   women's Slalom   Gold:  Mona Heller Silver:  Lorenza Cesaris Bronze:  Manuela Schmohl   men's Junior Slalom   Gold:  Mattia Pè Silver:  Christian Rondi Bronze:  Marcos Arias Sanchez
    • Judging always takes two or three minutes in these competitions - longer even for possible medal runs - for reasons above, so just saying DNI is a way of saying it's not worth comparing a fall on the third hit to a fall on the fourth hit since neither are going to affect the overall.
    • Scoring in all these events is a bit strange as they are not judging a pre-defined move to an absolute standard, as happens in diving, gymnastics etc, but are constantly shuffling around trying to score riders relative not only to each other, but to that riders' previous runs earlier in the competition and qualifying.
