Dew Tour 2019: Street Quarterfinals and Women's Park Semifinals

Skateboarding & Olympics was the pairing of the day here at Dew Tour in Long Beach, starting early in the morning with the Qualifier Crash Course and following during the day with the astonishing skaters and their tricks in the Street Quarter Finals - Women and Men - and in the Park Women Semi Final.

The in-depth panel session was an amazing opportunity for the press to meet skaters, sport organizations and industry leaders and to have a chat about the upcoming future of the skateboarding in the Olympics throughout such an engaging path towards Tokyo and beyond.

The first competition of the day was on the street course for the Women Quarter Final: 5 of the 12 skaters from the Open Qualifier made the cut to the Semi Final and 4 continents will be represented in the next phase of the contest.

The public turned then to the Park for the Women Semi Final: Japan got it all with 5 qualified girls (out of 8 finalists).

Nothing to do for the youngest promising skater on the scene, Sky Brown, who did not make the cut as ranking only 12.

Candy Jacobs is actually being part of the full top of the world now? :yikes:

Yes, she is...

unfortunately for her, last year's results let her down in terms of seeding, so she has to go through the world open qualifier and the quarterfinals every time (which could affect her physical and mental condition when it comes down to the final rounds of the competition)...but right now she definitely is among the top Street Skateboarding specialists in the World...

later tonight we'll see if she can make back-to-back finals after the London Open, which would be amazing for her and it would also give her a very, very good position in the OQR...

meanwhile, looking at the general results, the women's Park is quite scary...it's only USA and Japan (Armanto now represents Finland, but she's a true American)...even Brazil is not there among the finalists of this event...:yikes::facepalm:

definitely not a good "presentation", only 13 months or so before the Olympic debut of this discipline...:nopompom:

    • I think the reason is that it's generally preferable to have a fast shooter in the 1st leg, and especially in the prone shooting, where Hofer is quite slow.   Now, I'm not saying I agree with the choice, because I don't. I think it's going to neutralize Giacomel's skiing skills in the 1st lap at least.   I guess the idea is to try and set a very fast pace in the 1st leg, which is usually quite tactical, but I'm afraid that's going to force Giacomel to risk too much because he will feel he has to make some time somehow.   Regardless, Italy must be on the podium tomorrow. I think that would be crucial for the following races as well. I think France is the clear favorite, but the other teams are not stronger than Italy on paper.
