Speed Skating ISU World Cup 2018 - 2019

And 1:11.61 for Bowe in the 1000m to close out the day with another WR....after Miho Takagi (an allrounder!) went sub-1:12 as first woman ever in the race before :yikes:

What a day, unbelievable. This was a historic day for speed skating

Yeah, test that 'ice master' who created some absolutely perfect ice in perfect conditions on perfect altitude :p

I know they're in altitude and in SLC they have a magician as the ice master...but let's be serious...this is the last competition of a very long season, with most of the athletes already off their supposed peak period...and world records (even those 10 years old) are falling like the leaves in autumn?

maybe I'm a bit too suspicious, but this epic day can't be all "mother nature"'s result...:p

Most athletes are right at their main peak period, end of February to early March. It's not the first time athletes try and get their peak a little later when the last competition of the season is in Calgary or Salt Lake.

1:42.9 or something for Roest tonight and he takes over first place in the Adelskalendern. Which would be a bit of a shame in my opinion, since Shani Davis apart from being cool was also incredibly allround (winning both allround and sprint championships in the post-80's era is incredible).

Lol @ Nuis not being disqualified. Easily the most scandalous decision of this winter sport season.

Also interesting that apparently 5-6 dutch athletes had very suspicious blood values, but noone was caught doping.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.

Although the agenda has not been published yet, there shouldn’t be any major items over these two days, apart from the election of a member of the IOC Executive Board. • Weightlifting We now have six events per gender with a total of 10 athletes per event.   The Olympic Qualification Rankings will be based on the sum of the total results of five events (three from period 1 and two from period 2). The top 8 will qualify.   The 9th spot will also be based on the OQR, but it will go to the highest ranked athlete from an unrepresented continent.   The 10th spot will be split between the host and universality (3 each per gender). Should the United States qualify normally then their host quota will be reduced, first going to an athlete from an unrepresented continent then to the overall highest ranked athlete.   Additionally, a "Best Lifter" will be awarded which would give the nation the chance to qualify 4 athletes rather than the max of 3.
