Slalom Canoeing Qualification for Summer Olympic Games 2016

Recommended Posts

Looks like Lebanon really did get that wild card in men's C1. First ever quota for Lebanon in canoeing. http://sports-961.com/richard-merjan-2016-rio-olympic-games/

Their athlete is also very sure about that on his Facebook page.

very good team, in fact Russia selected with best option in each event.

There was discussion about Eigel and Maxim Shabanov. Coaches chose Eigel.

For Kuznetsov/Larionov it will be the last Olympics. They think in Tokyo 2020 men's C2 replaced women's C1.

yes I remember Kuznetsov/Larionov great bronze race in Beijing 2008, It was a surprise, but since there Russian canoe slalom went up rapidly. You have now very strong team. All your selected paddlers can achieve very intereting results in Rio.

yes I know, very bad idea. It´s still too early. womens C1 has still very low level..and doesn´t belong at the olympics..in other hand C2 is much much exciting and better to watch

Any medal will be a great result for Russian team. Contenders are too strong.

In general this sport has started to grow up in Russia after canoeing federation was divided into two federations in 2006. One for sprint and the other for slalom.

Guys! Question. Are there any Tripartite Commission invitation places needed for distribution or no more? So far, only Lebanon received it in the men's C-1.

There are two wild cards for canoeing events. One went to Lebanon in slalom the other went to Palau in sprint. No more wild cards left.

  • 2 weeks later...

About Dutch Maarten Hermans: he needed top-12 in Pau to qualify for Rio and that didn't happen. It's very much looking like he himself barely even knew about this..

"My Olympic dream...this sucks! I felt like an Olympian but am not anymore."

It's like he didn't even know about our NOC's standards, which were published long ago..

Similar to Sharapova's case really, not knowing what you should know is not an excuse. :p

    • Wrestling will have a completely new format, I do not like the changes. ranking isn't really a good idea in this sport, this will force wrestlers to compete in so many events to collect points. which is not good for their health. specially with the current UWW ranking points distribution system which is plain stupid   they are also gifting 18 quotas to very weak countries by that last qualification event. but I understand their point of view. can't wait to see lots of Russian wrestlers compete for weak countries for that 1 available quota.
    • Canoe Slalom Quotas from men's/women's K1 have been moved to men's/women's KX1. K1 will now have 14 quotas while KX1 will have 10 quotas. C1 remains at 17 quotas. Athletes may participate in other events up to a maximum of 2 athletes per NOC.   The World Championship qualifier has been dropped in favour of the Olympic Qualification Rankings (7 K1, 10 C1, 3 KX1), afterwards you have the Continental Qualifiers (1 per boat) and then a new Global Qualifier (2 per boat).   There were a few changes regarding ways to ensure an athlete can only obtain 1 quota. The biggest being at each stage the boat priority is K1 > KX1 > C1 for the rankings and KX1 > K1 > C1 for the continental/global qualifiers. This basically means if the same athlete qualifiers in multiple boats then the quota will be given to the kayak over canoe.
    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same
    • In Rome, it would be useful to roof the swimming pool complex at Foro Italico, possibly with the option of retracting the roof and covering the tennis court complex. Overall, there's a lot to do, for example, compared to Budapest, but unfortunately, this is Italy How many years has Roma been building their new stadium, and they keep pushing back the completion date- now I read it's 2030? and it should be ready. The same goes for Milan- there should be a modern complex of indoor swimming pools with 50 meters pools, etc., but there's a problem with one stupid football stadium, which will only be built after an ultimatum from UEFA

    • impossible, there are not enough venues in both towns and I mean, Milan doesn't have an Olympic Stadium, a decent Tennis Complex and a big Swimming Complex (not to mention the sea) Rome, on the other hand, doesn't have a Rowing/Canoeing Basin nor arenas and stadiums for the team sports beyond football and rugby there's no chance that all those venues would be built from scratch, meanwhile if we use both cities we already have almost everything we need, especially the most expensive and controversial sites
