Russians did not qualift for the Paralympics but the IPC sent them 6 bipartite inviatations.

So they will participate with flag, anthem and without any neutrality check.

The first boycott - but not from the athletes

Wasn’t it because the court case said if they didn’t give them the court would order it anyway?

It's a complicated situation, because recently this ban sounds somewhat hypocritical, which weakens the argument for keeping them banned. It's a case of either banning them all or allowing them all. :dunno:

It’s destroyed these games and could well make major issues for the IPC going forward.

Really, no. These "Invitations are granted by the IPC in its sole discretion" according to the IPC rehulations of the Paralympics.

So, this is just a "good will" of the IPC - to send them to russians.

It is just about the absence of moral in IPC.

Expecially given that russians stolen our Sports Paralympic Training Center and used it for themselves.

IPC changed their position not because the situation has changed but just because russians find some votes in their support using different methods.

Italian governmanet issued a statement:

The Vice President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, and the Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi have issued this joint note:

The Italian Government expresses its absolute opposition to the decision of the Internazionale Paralympic Committee to admit to participating in the Milan Cortina 2026 Paralympics for Russian athletes and four Belarusian athletes with the display of their national emblems, inno compreso.

The Italian government reiterates the dissent already expressed, together with other 33 nations and the European Commission, on the decision of full reinstatement of the Russian and Belarusian Paralympic Committees assumed by the General Assembly of the International Paralympic Committee last September 27, and renews its own full solidarity and its own unconditional support for Ukraine. Ask, inoltre, al Comitato Paralimpico Internazionale to reconsider this decision.
The persistent violation of the truce and Olympic and Paralympic ideals by Russia, supported by Belarus, is incompatible with the participation of athletes in the Games, if they do not come as individual neutral athletes.

Italy should deny the visas and let the IPC take them to court. I doubt they would bother.

What will happen if a Russian or Belarusian wins gold. Will we see medalists walking off before the anthem if it’s allowed to be played. What happens if a Ukrainian wins the silver and/or bronze. If it was neutral like 2024 they be a bit less controversy.
