That’s true. When I mix politics and sports, from my point of view, I stand for justice and claiming it’s not politics. So maybe no one is playing the game or everyone is playing it.

What is and isn’t considered political is, itself, a political question. There really isn’t such a thing as a “neutral” stand, and we all have our blind spots wrt how other people can view things very differently in good faith (for example I recoil pretty strongly to the notion that anything LGBT rights related is “political” in nature, but it’s also something that affects me fairly personally so of course I wouldn’t see it that way).

Meanwhile a long and detailed article by Russian state media explaining what they mean with denazification of Ukraine - and it is as bad as you can guess:

Also for everyone calling out Russian sports ban as injustice... Where were you all for the past two years when Belarus literally decided to throw athletes out of their teams for being anti-Lukashenko and therefore "traitors of the motherland"? Several athletes have been thrown of Olympic teams and replaced by weaker ones. In dressage they went a step further, and decided to rather decline a spot than to send a "traitor".

Where is their justice?

If it were up to me, Belarus would be banned from all sports events indefinitely and for as long as Lukashenko stays...

Russia holds more power so they can be more subtle about it, if you will. From state-sponsored billionaires leeching their way into IFs and state-sponsored doping at home Olympics, to having preferred coaches whose proteges end up taking titles in essentially rigged national championships.

Politics and sports can't get interlocked much more than that.
