Winter Youth Olympic Games 2024

:ITA might end up with 2025 WU, 2026 WO/WP, 2028 WO. They've already hosted the 2019 Winter Deaflympics and 2023 Winter EYOF, so I guess your nation's goal was to host every winter multi-sport event in the span of a decade :p

why not?

we have a lot of wonderful locations in the middle of the most beautiful mountains in the world...

when it's not down to "big stuff" (like the "true" Olympics), I think we are among the best possible hosts for Winter Sports

when major infrastructure is needed, well, that's another story (and most likely we're not a good choice, but I guess there was no better option when they awarded the 2026 Games to us)

These games brought us memories to last a lifetime.

I wish I could say the same, I honestly do, but the total lack of interest from the IOC to bring these Games to the world have rather dampened my spirits about all this. In the end, it was mostly a matter of watching a bit of the small handful of things they offered* and just checking the results of the rest :p

*which was so much curling and freestyle skiing/snowboarding, exactly the things I just am not really interested in. There's literally 5-6 hour stream videos on YouTube of slopestyle, but not a single minute of the ski and snowboard cross events.

Disappointment is the main memory that Gangwon 2024 leaves me, other than the cool Bethonico medal (which might have given me the most mixed feelings, because a historic medal like that is so much less fun when you just see it in a result, instead of when you actually see it happen and are 'living' the excitement).

I'd be kind of fine with every Youth Olympics being in Süd-Tirol for the foreseeable future :d

Süd-Tirol is....amazing

Whenever I watch the IBU Cups from places like Ridnaun or Martell, hearing the stadium speaker makes me all happy because apart from the whole place being so visually amazing, I just love the German version they speak :d

Yang :CHN short track gold medal appears to be going viral on US sports social media at the moment. Weird timing, but alright (it was a great move).

I assume mostly because of the massive confusion it caused at the 'finish'? :p

    • Yes, but what I mean for Serbia is that everything changed there (unfortunately for us ). 2022 was an unbelievable mess, that's not the case anymore now with just one athlete who has really gone for it and made it, so I'm 99% sure they'll accept it this time.   Who knows though. Plus there's always 1-2 bigger countries here or there who reject something, but it's not gonna be 16 places I'm afraid
    • Doping by Event Type When we look at which events have the most doping cases, a few categories stand out from recent sanction records: Long Distance (3,000m and above): 32% of cases Sprints (400m or less): 24% of cases Jumps: 12% of cases Javelin: 8% of cases Middle Distance (800m–1,500m): 8% of cases Hammer: 8% of cases Steeplechase (3,000m SC): 4% of cases
    • From 2020 to 2025    These three countries alone make up almost two-thirds (61.9%) of all current doping violations in athletics worldwide. It’s worth noting that 199 of World Athletics’ 214 member federations have no athletes on the current ban list. This means the problem is really concentrated in a small number of places. Here’s a look at the top countries: Rank Country Total Violations Percentage Region 1 Kenya 119 24.74% Africa 2 India 108 22.45% Asia 3 Russia 73 15.18% Europe 4 China 26 5.40% Asia 5 Turkey 20 4.16% Europe 6 Italy 18 3.74% Europe 7 South Africa 18 3.74% Africa 8 Ukraine 17 3.53% Europe 9 United States 16 3.33% North America 10 Morocco 15 3.12% Africa
