Still not a fan of the team event even with Georgia on board. :p The outcome is too predictable and the competition system is nuts. Basically game over after the short program.

Exactly.

I'm thrilled for :CZE & :GEO competing, but for me is one of those events that doesn't anything new to the program, and due to it being held before the individual/pairs events, the smaller teams risk losing their athletes due to an injury.

Plus, this is one where the final five will be the same for the next Olympic cycles, so cut this crap from the program and bring a new sport/discipline to the games.

Only 10 nations have enough quotas to be eligible for the team event, so we already know which are qualified regardless of rankings.

:ROC :USA :CAN :JPN :ITA :CHN :GEO :CZE :GER :UKR

Debuts for Georgia and Czech Republic (!). No France for the first time.

Ukraine in team event? WHAAAAAT

I love that there is a team event for figure skating, but the format is terrible.

Replace it with what? The figure skating team event had five quotas spots assigned to it (and those are shared with the host nation quotas). The only thing cutting this event would give is more ice time.

What about Women's Nordic combined without cuting men's places?

And yes, I'd like the athletes to have some rest, and maybe use that mixed curling preliminary rounds.

Team event barely adds quotas to the program. If the IOC Is going to add a women's Nordic combined event (20 or so athletes) the cuts will have to come from elsewhere.

This is not true, the team events do not necessarily add quota sport program, the qualifications of team events are based on the individual results.

Well your statement is false. The team event added 4 quotas to allow for 3 countries to compete. If the FIS is looking to add women's nordic combined, the cuts will have to come from FIS events

That is incredibly likely to be added at some point, but surprisingly they seem to actually take some time to let women's Nordic combined be worthy of being added. It definitely will be, it has been growing fairly rapidly the past few years, but it's still too 'young' right now. Give it a few years of actually having an established World Cup circuit and it'll be fine and added no doubt.

    • Of the top teams the world with traditions, only Portugal didn`t play in 3 World Cups in a row: 1986-2002 (1990, 1994 and 1998), but then fewer teams played in the World Cup than now. I don't really remember what caused the crisis in Portuguese football in the 1990s or how it was done with this later? Perhaps we should follow their example?
    • Well... If not qualifying for the World Cup for the third consecutive time isn't enough to bring about change in Italy, I can't imagine what will be.
    • Gravina is simply stupid and probably has some kind of hold over other important key figures in Italian football, since he was elected in 2024 with a majority of over 90% of the votes... I have a hard time imagining it any other way. Compared to him, even Carraro, Berlusconi and Moggi seem like nice and kind gentlemens   Some people believe that Calciopoli in 2006 began the decline of Italian football and that may be true. It only got worse from there, not counting a single accidental Euro 2021 win- something similar to Greece in 2004. In 2009 Roberto Baggio prepared a 900-page report on necessary reforms in Italian football, but the then-FIGC board tossed it into the trash bin. Now we see the consequences...
    • I thought our former football President was greedy, selfish, power hungry and delusional, but apparently he has an equal counterpart in Gravina. Some people just lack common decency.
    • Well, it's possible that Italians may be more bitter towards short track officials after the robbery they perpetrated against Sighel at the Olympics and therefore more willing to comment and criticize them, but it doesn't make the decision any less ridiculous.   Also, the fact we are Italians, and therefore used to the low standards of football refereeing, makes us especially qualified and trained to identify biased/crooked/incompetent judging
    • I think it was never in the history of our sport has there been anyone as brazen and stupid as Gravina. Before presidents would resign, or at least hide for a while, rather than go into a full-blow scandalous attitude with full larrogance and pride. I hope this idiot gets fired anyway, even if he doesn't resign.
