It could happen, Mexico has been making good on its chances. There's still a lot to go and it could end up coming down to how many gold medals does the United States deny Brazil/Canada or how many golds does Cuba win in boxing.

Not every chance... They should have taken gold in women's pentathlon relay, and don't make talk about the fiasco of tae kwon do, in which they could only get 4 medals in kyorugi categories. In the end, I think the best we'll do is to challenge the Canadians for 4th position, but that's mostly due to the fact your NOC have always treated Pan American Games as a third class competition in half the sports.

Cuban sports has really fallen in the past decade. Is it due to lack of funding in sports institutes? A mass of defections? Or does the country now have other priorities that the state have neglected and are finally given the attention it needed after so many years? Over the years they have massively punched above their weight but now we are just witnessing the decline even more.

Probably a little of alla you say but the last question you say is the most important.

I am sure the NOC would like to field their best teams, but its mostly the NFs that are really stupid.

I cannot even start to state how stupid Cycling Canada is.

Global sport becoming increasingly professional + lack of modern equipment necessary to train properly in many sports + big exodus of not only athletes but also coaches.

BTW, last night I found out the games have a game for smartphones.

It's very simple, just six games, but the graphics and the surf mini is OK... and you can choose to compete for any of the 41 NOC's in America.

    • It's an interesting question, Norway is certainly expanding their efforts into a number of new sports. So, that cannot help but to peal off a few more natural athletes. I know their training methods are kinda rocking the world in a number of summer endurance sports.  I can't really speak to they dynamics of their development program. Their men's nordic programs largely always seem to be ridiculously deep, overwhelmingly so the last decade or so.

    • But it seems to us that Norway wasn't as strong in Lillehammer 1994 as it was later? And not just in women's events. Generally, until 2000, Norway was much weaker in women's biathlon and women`s cross-country skiing. I remember in the 1990s, Italy's biggest rivals, Belmondo and di Centa, were Russia, when Norway somewhere further back and only in the classic style. Bente Martinsen- Skari, this is their first really strong girl in cross country, just about 2000, just like Liv Grete Skielbreid- Pioree in women`s biathlon at similar times.   Do you think, that is there any hope that thanks to the popularity of Haaland and football in general in Norway in recent years, winter sports such as biathlon or cross-country skiing will lose a little bit, becouse that?

    • This suggestion  @Dnl  made some months ago has also been implemented.   In each club, I have added a "Milano Cortina 2026 Qualification Tracker" record which takes the content from the Qualification by Nation tracker of that NOC.   People who see it can not edit the content, but it will be automatically updated once @Matej will update the record, and if you notice any mistake feel free to report it to Matej or in the record itself.   Club's admins can now edit the name of the section into their own language or change the spelling, I have used "Milano Cortina 2026 Qualification Tracker" for all the clubs. To do so, go inside the section, then click on "Manage Club"-"Edit this database Record" and change the name of the section:     By the way, if you are not a club's admin but you would like to edit things inside the club just let me know and I will give you the rights to do so. There can be more "admins" inside the club with the rights to edit and organize the sections, and that's not a role that require time or commitment.   Let's try to make all the clubs active during MiCo and when the LA28 qualifications will start!
