This is very interesting because it shows clearly how countries like Paraguay, British Virgin Islands and Aruba are clearly concerned about improving their chances for an Olympic medal, while Bolivia only cares about racquetball. Their silver medal in tennis is more the result of a lucky competition than any serious work on improving their chances of an Olympic medal.

Eight nations won all of their medals in Olympic events though only Panama won more than two medals (four total).

 

In terms of percentage Bolivia had most of its medals (80%) from non-Olympic events (4/5). Other high percentages include El Salvador (3/4) and Uruguay (6/9).

 

Among nations which finished in the top 10 Peru (43.6% of total) and Mexico (37.5% of total) relied the most on non-Olympic events while Cuba (14.3% of total), Dominican Republic (15.0% of total) and Brazil (15.2% of total) relied the least on non-Olympic events.

 Inspired by the London 2012 Olympic Games, Clive ‘Tony’ GREYSON (JAM) decided to take up a competitive sport at the age of 45. To make things simpler, he went down the list alphabetically.

“I started with athletics and I thought, ‘Well maybe that might be a bit of a challenge to beat Usain BOLT (JAM)’. So then I went to ‘B’ which was bobsleigh. It’s too cold. ‘C’ was canoe, so I thought, ‘OK, I’ll do some canoe’,” he said.

 

"With Lima 2019 behind him, the 51-year-old Olympic hopeful lights up at the mere suggestion he could some day be known as the BOLT of kayaking."

Personally like the part about him beginning training in the winter, and paddling around London singing reggae
