Medal table in olympic events:

:GER 2/3/3

:ROU & :USA 2/0/1

:SUI 2/0/0

:FRA 1/3/0

:LTU & :NED & :ESP 1/0/0

:ITA 0/4/1

:BEL & :CHI 0/1/0

:CAN & :CZE  & :GRE & :IRL & :POL & :RUS 0/0/1

Germany with clearly the most medals (as usual) and the Netherlands almost nonexistent as usual (just to completely explode at senior level).

Overall tally (5 medals) is the best one from France since 1994.

Congrats! I don't think that those athletes will be competitive by 2024, but maybe in 2028 they could do some damage.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

In the end it was a total disaster for us.

6 of our 7 boats made A Finals but just one medal.

I wasn't expecting much from our 4 men's boats because there were some key absences and new faces, with the exception of the men's four which finished 5th.

Our women's four was disappointing as they finished 6th, when 3 of the 4 girls were part of the team last year which won silver at the European Juniors. Plus they all row for the Nautical Club of Thessaloniki and I expected that they would have a lot of chemistry in that boat, usually our crews are mixed with people from different parts of the country that don't really know each other outside the national team.

Also disappointing that our women's double finished 5th after winning their heat and having a girl who won bronze at least year's European Juniors in the same class as a 15 year old. However both girls are just 16 so I guess 5th is a solid result for them, all other crews in the A Final had at least one athlete who won't be eligible for this category next year, and we are the only ones who can have both girls come back.

I expected more from Evangelia Fragkou in the women's single sculls but I guess winning a medal is still good, especially since she may have been impacted by the covid outbreak in our training camp last month. If there were another 5-10m, she would've won silver but there wasn't enough water left during her sprint at the end. Still, she is becoming very successful for us with 3 medals in the past year (bronze at 2020 European Juniors, bronze at 2021 World U23s, bronze at 2021 World Juniors). Now she just needs to change the color. I imagine she will appear again this year probably at the European U23s and/or European Juniors.

4 of our 7 women will be able to come back to this category next year, while only 2 of our 9 men will be.

Excellent gold medal, which is a decent result for a nation where youth/junior sports just isn't as important as it is in many other nations. Dutch athletes often only get better once they get professional guidance, which usually just starts later :)

    • Basically, NOCs can attempt to qualify in additional events without gaining athlete quotas. For example, let's say a nation already qualified in the 4- and 4x, they can use the athletes they plan to send in those events and try to qualify in the 8+. That's where the extra coxswains will be used. If a nation intends to attempt to double-up they must let World Rowing know before the final qualifier regatta.   There's a good chance the quotas may not be used and will have to be reallocated. Looking at 2024, only  would have been eligible for the men while the women there's . With that said there's no guarantee they would have wanted to double-up their athletes.   In reality we are more likely to see the reverse, nations who qualified in the 4x, 4-, or 8+ doubling-up athletes for the 1x, 2x, 2-.
    • Hey everyone, how are you all?   Reading the qualification document here and the "3 quotas for additional coxswain" is very confusing to me. Can someone (try to) explain to me please how those quotas will be assigned?    Thank you so much

    • In a country as big as , the odds of Olympians being close to you are quite small; however, once I realized several months ago that even a state as small as mine hosts Olympians on occasion, I decided to scour each sport's calendar to make sure I caught them when they come around.  That led me to the middle of nowhere in my own state today, where there was a 4* Eventing competition, featuring a couple of Olympians and/or World Champion athletes.   Most all the athletes here were local or from USA, but there were a couple who compete for   or .  When we walked up, I had no idea what I was doing.  I thought I was in the right arena at the venue, but I didn't really see anyone there.  (There weren't any stands full of spectators, nor did I see any judges...it was time for dressage.). One of the ladies turned around and we struck up conversation.  Turns out I was in the right spot, and they were just on a short break.  She directed my attention to the upcoming athlete, Caroline Pamukcu.  Thanks to my research ahead of time, I knew she was on the Paris 2024 Eventing Team.  The lady we were talking with was the owner of the horse Caroline was riding.  After she finished with her dressage round, she got off the horse and was just standing there talking with her crew.  We went over and had a brief chat and one of the other ladies offered to take our picture.     I asked Caroline if she was aiming for LA28, and she said yes.  I've also since shown the girls and wifey the video from her Paris 2024 jumping competition.  Hope she makes the team this year!   (Caroline has a Gold Individual Eventing and Silver Team Eventing medal from the 2023 PanAms.  Boyd Martin from the Paris team was also there, himself having a WCh Silver and three gold PanAms.  Tamra Smith, who has a Silver from the 2022 WCh, was there as well.  Waylon Roberts, who represents  and has a PanAm Silver competed.  I saw a few more Dressage rounds, then watched them all do the Jumping.  Didn't get to see Cross-Country, but they'll have another similar event in October.)
