The following athletes have qualified for Paris 2024 through the 2023 ISA Surfing Games

Vahine Fierro :FRA (European Women's Quota)

Kauli Vaast :FRA (European Men's Quota)

Saffi Vette :NZL (Oceania Women's Quota)

Billy Stairmand :NZL (Oceania Men's Quota)

Shino Matsuda :JPN (Asia Women's Quota)

Kanoa Igarashi :JPN (Asia Men's Quota)

Jordy Smith :RSA (Africa Men's Quota)

Sarah Baum :RSA (Africa Women's Quota)

Should Jordy qualify through the CT, the quota will be reallocated to Alan Cleland :MEX, and should Kanoa qualify through the CT, the quota will be reallocated to Reo Inaba :JPN.

I would like to believe that Alan Cleland could take that spot, but given is the african quota, if South Africa gets it through CT then it will be reallocated to the nex in line from Africa don't you think?

It really goes to Cleland :MEX. The quota would be reallocated to an African surfer only if he had finished on top 30.

After Smith, the best ranked athlete is Teva :MAR who finish on 31st.

Only one stage to go, before Finals

Seeing this opportunity, an overview about Surfing Qualification

Women

Brisa :CRC

Johanne :FRA

Tatiana :BRA

Teresa :POR are already in the Olympics.

Carissa :HWI, imo, is qualified as well; she cannot be overtaken by any other American/Hawaian surfer, which automatically put her in the Olympics. The same applies to Wright :AUS which cannot see any other Australian girl ahead of her, giving her ticket too.

The second American and Australian quota will be decided between: Marks :USA, Lakey :USA, Caitlin :USA, Picklum :AUS and Gilmore :AUS

There's a chance of Lakey and Caitlin do not advance to the Finals, which would give olympic spot directly to Marks.

As for the :AUS quota, only Gilmore can still "steal" the place provisonally secured by Picklum. She needs the second place at :THT to keep her dream alive. Even though, the second place wouldn't give her enough points to feel "safe". The first place, added to a poor performance from Caitlin and Lakey is her best option for the place on Finals.

Men

Toledo :BRA

Fioravanti :ITA

Ewing :AUS

Colapinto :USA are already in the Olympics

John John Florence :HWI is qualified too, imo. Even if either Barron or Ian win the last stage, they can't sum enough points to overtake him.

All the other quotas are still open. And, it will be a fierce battle for the second Brazilian and Australian quota. And for the other three spots.

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
