Gyulai Memorial was fun, but also hot as fuck, especially during the hammer throw, which is prob why Halász failed to reach the Olympic ES. But hey, we got an OES in men's 400, so I am not complaining.
The entry lists for the Gyulai Memorial are out on the main page: https://gyulaimemorial.hu/en/
M4 Sport will broadcast the entire event live on their website from 14:00 CET (but it will probably be blocked outside of Hungary, so you will need a VPN for that).
It should be a fun event. My only wish is an Olympic ES (78.20) from Halász in hammer, everything else would be a bonus.
ExpandHungary and Italy just tore the roof off at the European Junior Swimming so I wouldn't lose sleep; Hungary just has different priorities (mostly involving moving fast in water - which come to think of it is a bit odd for a landlocked country...anyway!)
I am actually not blown away by that generation of Hungarian junior swimmers, no matter how many medals they won. We maybe got two talent there who can win an Olympic medal one day, Pádár and Jackl, but I wouldn't be surprised if none of them will deliver Olympic medals in LA and/or Brisbane. Look at the results, not the medals. It's not Italy or Hungary who are the big winners there, it's with Pudar and
with Mitsin.
Meanwhile we had a fine ECh here with 5 medals. It's not some amazing breakthrough, but at least Hungarian athletics still exists in some form. Boglárka Takács is the best female sprinter we had in ages, at the very least she can be a marketable face for Hungarian athletics if she continues to improve and pushes the 100m national record below the 11sec barrier, which should be possible in the next few years under the right conditions. But sadly we don't have an Olympic medal winning talent in this generation, Bence Halász will have to carry us in men's hammer throw as our only medal contender in Paris and maybe even in LA.
I haven't been up to date with athletics, so seeing Fajdek struggling this much is strange. He's nowhere near the Olympic ES.
ExpandThere will be a Diamond League in Chorzów tomorrow, lets hope that finally someone else besides Sułek and Lisowska from
will qualify

Lol, similar to how I hope that at least one Hungarian will join Kozák at the Gyulai Memorial. Halász has to go over 78.20m in hammer before the Worlds to gain some confidence, hopefully that will happen in a few days in Székesfehérvár.
Takács with a new NR in women's 100m yesterday (11.14). The 11.07 Olympic ES is in sight, and maybe in due time she can break into the 10s club.
If everything goes well I will attend the Gyulai Memorial next week in Székesfehérvár for the first time. I thought that it would be a nice warm up to the WCh. The field of athletes is looking quite strong, we got a lot of big names competing here once again.
ExpandIt's more than enough pretty much anywhere these days tbh.
Is it supposed to turn into an olympic stadium if ever Budapest was to host the OG ?
I guess, but they would have to find a way to expand it even more. But the chances of Budapest ever hosting a SOG is close to none anyway.
ExpandIt looks more like a 50-60K stadium than a 36K one !
Anyway, that's the first permanent athletics stadium (10k+ seats ) buit in Europe in a very long time. I would say since Charléty Stadium in Paris (1994) but I'm waiting to be corrected.
Well, it will be a 15k stadium after the WCh, the white seats in the upper level will be gone and that level will be turned into a 800m running course and shops. They will probably be able to expand it again if we ever have a similarly big event. 15.000 seats will be plenty enough for most athletics events here, Hungarians don't show up in huge numbers for athletics.

Luka Kozak

Her name is Luca Kozák.
We only qualified 6 athletes for Tokyo via reaching the entry standard, I wonder if we can perform better this time. We will see if anyone will qualify at the Hungarian Nationals next week in our new athletics stadium.
ExpandNot only that, they have totally reset the score. Because everyone knows the throwers aim at the lines.

ExpandAnd they're wiped all the shot put R1 results away (ten marks in total) and we start from the scratch

What the hell? Isn't Poland supposed to be good at hosting athletics event? How does something like this happen at an event of this level?
I must say, the Hungarian team is looking promising before the WCh in Budapest. Maybe we will have a great WCh (relative to our mediocre level).

They really need to introduce something like this for the broadcast as well. It would make this event far more easier to follow, you would know how each team is actually performing.
Márton wins, but that wasn't promising for the WCh, she's obviously nowhere near the level she was during the 2010s. Hopefully she will improve, otherwise we won't see her in the WCh final.
National U23 record from Molnár in women's 400m. High national record chance for the World Champs.
Welp, we are about to throw away our chances in this team event with women's hammer throw.
ExpandRight people, let's make it interesting.
I've went trhough everyone's SB/PB in Division II and that is how the simulated score looks like for Div2 (please note relkays are not included as neraly impossible to get the accurate prediciton rankings):

128 So we are looking into
and
easily qualifying to Div 1, with
and
fighting for last qualifying spot.
looks very safe to remain in Div2
and
highly likely to get relegated (especially when not competing in all events), with
and
fighting for survival!
Huh, the Hungarian federation said that our target is a midtable finish. I guess they didn't calculate what the other teams are capable of on paper. Plus we are sending the A-team, other nations might have some missing talent.

Well, I sure didn't think yesterday that I will be among the last people who saw her compete live. Completely out of nowhere.
