Not that I particullary care about this, but I´m just wondering about one thing, if there some special reason why such (I imagine important kind of) elections are on Tuesday. That would be cool if we have this too...one free day because elections we always have them on Saturday

Italy goes to France Women’s team wins in Olympic Qualification The Italian players are all smiles after winning their Olympic Qualification group and keeping the dream of PyeongChang 2018 alive. She looked into the camera with a Basque-style beret on her head she received as a present from the organizer and with a big smile in her face. She had all reasons to smile. Captain Carola Saletta and her teammates just won the tournament in Donostia-San Sebastian. After beating the Netherlands 5-1 in the deciding game the Italian women’s national team reached first place in its Olympic Qualification Preliminary Round group to advance to the next round. The Netherlands had the upper hand in this pairing between 2012 and 2015 until the Italians started to move up the ranking step by step with a fourth-place finish at the Division I Group B tournament in 2016 and confirmed the trend also in the Olympic Qualification. Both teams entered the final day with a clean record. The Netherlands took the first place after two days and beating Slovenia 14-1 and Spain 2-0. Italy edged Spain 2-0 as well in its first game and beat Slovenia 8-1. In the final game the Italians made sure it won’t be a narrow battle from the very beginning. Chelsea Furlani opened the scoring after just 29 seconds of play. The Vermont-born forward, who has been playing in Italy since 2011, then doubled the lead with her power-play marker at 7:03 and three minutes later Silvia Carignano made it 3-0. For the Netherlands the game looked almost over before it even really started. The Dutch came one goal closer when Mieneke de Jong scored at 3:46 of the second period but her match penalty for tripping Furlani five-and-a-half minutes later harmed the team. Eleonora Dalpra deflecting a shot from Linda de Rocco and Anna de la Forest de Divonne capitalized on the five-minute power play to make it a 5-1 lead that was there to stay until the end of the game. With these goals De la Forest de Divonne (1+7=8) and Dalpra (3+4=7) took the top spots in tournament scoring. “We won thanks to our team spirit. We dominated this game and I’m very glad about the result. Now we will prepare for the next round,” said Italy head coach Marco Liberatore according to the website of the Italian Ice Sports Federation. For the next round the team will travel to the Paris region. In Cergy-Pontoise the Italians will play host France, Latvia and China from 15 to 18 December. The winner of that group will remain in contention for a sport in PyeongChang 2018 and advance to the Final Olympic Qualification in February 2017. For host Spain the tournament ended in happy mood as well as the team beat Slovenia in a game for third place, 5-1. Since joining the Women’s World Championship program in 2011, Spain has never been ranked ahead of Slovenia and lost its two previous encounters 5-3 and 3-1. The Spaniards made the difference with four unanswered goals in the first 13 minutes of play including two from Ainhoa Merino.

While the Freestyle Skiing season officially got underway in early September with big air competitions in El Colorado (CHI), the FIS World Cup series’ take off in the Northern Hemisphere with the first big air competitions in Milan (ITA) which hosts both, Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding. For Freestyle Skiing, it will be a historic season as it will be the first time a World Cup globe will be awarded in big air. For the Snowboarders, the season is especially exciting as snowboard big air will debut as an Olympic sport in the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang (KOR). Serving as official Olympic test event, the next FIS snowboard big air World Cup event is set for 25th-26th November 2016 at the Alpensia Ski Jumping complex where a scaffolding structure has been erected facing the ski jump, with a shared finish area between the two facilities. The following stop on the big air calendar is then Moenchengladbach (GER) which will host competitions for both disciplines from 2nd-3rd December 2016. While the world’s top riders will make two further stops in Copper Mountain (USA) and Moscow (RUS), both ski and snowboard disciplines will meet again in Quebec City (CAN) from 9th-11th February 2017. Afterwards, the free skiers will travel to Myrkdalen-Voss (NOR) for their final competitions on 24th and 25th March 2017 which include a team event. An aditional feature is the fact that the big air events in Milan, Moenchengladbach and Quebec City will be the three venues of the newly launched ‘Super Series’. Green light for slalom opening in Levi It’s confirmed, the Audi FIS Ski World Cup opening slaloms will take place in Levi (FIN) on 12th and 13th November 2016. The excellent news came in following the official snow control on Friday by FIS Race Director Markus Mayr. After a cancellation last season due to mild weather, the Finnish resort was keen to host the ladies’ and men’s slaloms on the Levi Black this year. Fortunately, the temperatures were cold enough in the past days to produce plenty of snow, and the renewed snow making system proved to be efficient. Levi became a traditional stop on the World Cup Tour and it will be celebrating its 10th anniversary this year! Let’s see who will tackle the challenging course the best and be awarded a cute reindeer.

Kazakhs get it done Women’s team advances in Olympic Qualification Players and staff at the Kazakh bench celebrate as the players on the ice seal the tournament win in the Olympic Qualification. Kazakhstan won the women’s Olympic Qualification Preliminary Round Group G on home ice in the capital of Astana. The Kazakhs won all three games with a combined score of 10-3 and will move on to the next round in Stavanger, Norway. The tournament started with a surprise. Qualifier Mexico, ranked 11 places behind its opponent, was leading 2-0 against Great Britain after the first as well as after the second period. Yes he was Slovak born in Košice, He started his career in Košice, then he moved to Prague and played in LTC Prague which was this time the best club in Czechoslovakia. He played at 2 olympic games, in 1936 at Winter Olympic Gamis in Garmisch-Partenkirchen as the only slovak in the Czechoslovakian team which finished 4th. In 1948 in Sankt Moritz he was even the Flagbearer of Czechoslovakian delegation at opening ceremony. TCH won silver medal. He was world champion in 1947, and next year unfortunately he died in the Czechoslovakia team air crash tragedy in La Manche, few time later the Stadium in Košice got his name, and was named Zimný Štadión Ladislava Trojáka until the nowadays Steel Arena was build and opened in 2007.
