  2. Postponement of snow control Lake Louise (CAN) This is to inform you that the snow control for the Audi FIS Ski World Cup races in Lake Louise (CAN) is postponed to Tuesday 15th November 2016.
  3. Gasser and Kleveland take career's first at Snowboard World Cup opener Anna Gasser (AUT) and Marcus Kleveland (NOR) have kicked off the 2016-17 FIS Snowboard World Cup season in style winning the big air event in Milan (ITA) in front of a stellar crowd and on a perfectly prepared venue site. EXPerience Park and the Big Air and the City event played host to the first of three stops of the newly launched Super Series with the ramp being erected right across the iconic Tree of Life offering riders an incredible air time to soar through the Italian night. And the athletes paid back with some high-level performances led by two riders who didn't have the honour yet to step on the top podium spot at a World Cup event. But while it was the career's first for both, Gasser and Klevedal, the young Norwegian and second best qualifier stood out even a bit more as he dominated the men's competition at his World Cup debut in excellent manner. Viking spins to win - with steez The 17-years-old from Dombaas stomped the best three tricks of the night (94.50, 93.00, 95.00) securing the victory of the three run, best two count high-level final of the top 10 men qualifiers with the final score of 188.00 for his cab triple 1440 indy and backside triple 1620 melon. “This is one of the biggest wins I have ever had. It's been really great today. Winning in front of this crowd is just awesome. It was a really good time although I had quite some hard times during training to land all those tricks. To put it down in the finals is amazing,” the spinning machine stated after the finals where the young Viking had held off some well-known contest machines like Seppe Smits (BEL) and Marc McMorris (CAN). 2011 world champion Seppe Smits tried his best after bailing his first try stomping his first ever triple on a scaffolding jump (backside triple 1440 indy) as well as a super stylish cab 1260 mute which in the end earned him a 178.50 and the second rank he certainly was proud of: “The level was definitely one of the highest we have ever seen at a World Cup big air event. It was cool to see all the guys throw down. The jump was really comfortable with probably the most air time we ever had at one of those in-city jumps.” Perfect conditions to celebrate a comeback from injury which at least two riders could emphasize. One of them: Mark McMorris, who just came back to business more than half a year after he had broken his femur during the Air & Style in Los Angeles and placed third (173.00) after landing his game plan: a backside triple 1440 mute and a switch backside 1260 backside grab. “It's one thing to get back to snowboarding after injury. I was lucky enough to get back to shredding on a high level. I did a lot of rehab and stuff. But it's another thing to come out and compete on a scaffolding big air when it matters. It's just more nerve-wracking, even tonight. Last time I rode at night didn't go that well for me. And now, some months later, here we are. I'm super thankful to be back and do what I love,” McMorris explained. Gasser comes back and earns chapter in Austrian history books It could have been the statement of Anna Gasser as the Austrian shredder had also been forced to take it easy after sustaining some problems with her intervertebral discs this January. Nevertheless, after qualifying third for the women's finals, which featured the top 6 athletes of this afternoons qualifications, Gasser paved her way to victory (174.25) at her first scaffolding-jump competition ever with her signature trick, a switch double underflip 900 indy, before wrapping up things with a safe and clean corked backside 720 mute. “It's great to come back from a long break due to injury, and it also was the first time on a scaffolding jump. It's awesome,” Gasser said, who became the second ever Austrian woman to win a snowboard freestyle World Cup. So far, only Nicola Pederzoli had been the only one to do so five times, last time winning the halfpipe competition in Serre Chevalier back in March 2003. Hailey Langland (USA, 160.25), a 16-year-old teenager who has now a fourth, third and second rank finish in three World Cup starts under her belt as well as Sarka Pancochova (CZE, 153.75) rounded out the podium in Milan as second and third, respectively. A result which pleased the young US rider, who also experienced her first ever scaffolding jump, a lot: “It was a little scary, and I was really nervous, but I got to look down to all these people who came here to watch and it made me a little more nervous but also excited. I just wanted to get the people a good show and land the things that I wanted to do. So, I'm extremely happy. I got to ride with all the girls that I have looked up to my whole live. Coming right behind of Anna [Gasser] who is one of my heroes is great. I had a lot of fun, I can't complain.” The World Cup tour continues with this season's second big air event slated to take place November 25-26, 2016, at Alpensia Ski Stadium (KOR) serving as official Olympic test event for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang. Super Series The newly launched series will crown the world’s best after three in-city big air stops of the World Cup tour, featuring Milan, Moenchengladbach (GER) and Quebec City (CAN). 5. Mikaela Shiffrin wins the slalom opener in Levi In Levi (FIN), north of the Arctic Circle, the sun doesn’t always rise in the morning, but when it does, the lights create a breath-taking atmosphere. Combine this with an action-packed slalom season kick-off and you have a perfect Audi FIS Ski World Cup day! Mikaela Shiffrin, Wendy Holdener and Petra Vlhova didn’t get distracted by the landscape today, and rocked the challenging Levi Black course to end up on the first slalom podium of the season. Slovakia claimed a slalom podium placement again, but not with Veronika Velez Zuzulova – the runner-up of last year’s slalom standings – but with Petra Vlhova. After she skied on the safe side in the first run and ranked 4th, she managed to cruise to a 3rd-place finish in the second run, +0.75 behind the winning pace. “We talked with my team that I have to go full gas in second run because my second run was not the best I can do. I’m happy it worked out. The good result in Sölden helped me, it’s good for my head and helps also for slalom.” Wendy Holdener remained steady and earned her 8th career podium with a +0.67 off Shiffrin’s time. It looks like the hard work in that discipline paid off for the Swiss racer, who could already celebrate an Alpine Combined and a City Event World Cup win. It looks like she is knocking at the door of her first slalom win. “I really wanted to go for it today, and for sure the end of last season was great, so it gave me confidence. I had to learn to be more aggressive on the skis. I really love skiing and it wasn’t easy to focus and give everything.” However, the nine last time Mikaela Shiffrin participated in a slalom World Cup race, she took the win. And it was no different today. The US-racer is aiming to get her slalom crown back, even though she admits that she’s feeling her contenders are getting closer and closer. "I’m always more nervous at the first race of the season, and the other girls are not going to slow down, but my coaches were very supportive and told me 'give your best and let your head get out of the way', that helped. I feel like I’m on track for the rest of the season.” Sweden’s Frida Hansdotter, who won the slalom title last season, tied for second place in the first run but skied out in the middle section during the second run. 2nd Round replay

  7. Zimmermann and Mahler unbeatable in Milan The first half of the FIS Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding Super Series Milan big air World Cup weekend saw freeski competition take to the giant scaffold jump set-up at Milan’s EXPerience Park, just outside of the city’s core. There, Germany’s Lisa Zimmermann and Switzerland’s Kai Mahler were able to rise to the top in what turned out to be an exceptionally entertaining big air competition, setting a high bar for things to come on the Super Series tour. On the ladies’ side, Zimmermann (GER) - the 2013/14 slopestyle World Cup crystal globe winner - was on fire from start to finish of the event, qualifying first after stomping both her hits in the seeding round, before stepping up under the lights in the finals and putting down near-perfect tricks on the first two of her three attempts. With a switch left-side 720 high safety in her first jump and left-side 900 high safety in her second hit, Zimmermann had first-place all locked up with 181.0 points before even dropping in for her final hit in the best-two-out-of-three finals format. “It feels great to stand on top of the podium today,” Zimmermann said following the awards ceremony, “The organizers did a great job preparing the ramp and it was a great competition. I’m super happy to have been a part of it.” Zimmermann was followed up by Mathilde Gremaud (SUI) in the six-skier final, as the 16-year-old landed on the podium in just her second-ever World Cup competition. Skiing as if she felt no pressure at all at the huge venue, Gremaud stomped a left 720 tail and a switch left 720 mute to earn herself a combined two-jump score of 157.2 points and the first of what should be many World Cup podiums. “I couldn’t be more happy to get on the podium on just my 2nd ever World Cup appearance,” a surprised Gremaud said from the finish are, “I had nothing to lose so I just did my best and ended up on the second place.” Third-place went to current big air World Cup leader Emma Dahlstrom (SWE), who struggled at times during the day but still ended up missing out on second spot by only .2 points, ending with a score of 157.0 after landing a switch left-side 720 double japan and a right 540 safety. On the men’s side, it seemed as if all skiers were in top gear from the outset, with a dizzying stream of triples being thrown from competitors all up and down the final results sheet. With skiers like Henrik Harlaut (SWE), Luca Schuler (SUI) and Andri Ragettli (SUI) all stomping big-time tricks but finding themselves off the podium at the end of the night, you know the competition level was world-class. “It feels amazing to win the competition tonight,” Mahler said, smiling, “It’s been a while since the last time I’ve stood on the podium so it’s really a great feeling. I’ve learned the triple 16 a month ago and I’m super stoked to be able to pull it down here.” Bullying his way into second place was Oystein Braaten (NOR), who was able to stomp a switch left double 1440 tail grab on his final hit to bump his countryman Eirik Sateroy (NOR) into second and knock Ragettli off the podium. That jump, combined with an earlier left-side triple 1440 safety, gave him a score of 179.6, just .2 shy of Mahler. After the competition, Braaten was impressed with what had gone down. ”It was really good night,” he said, “The jump was amazing, for sure the best city big air I’ve ever tried. Everyone skied so good. I had some expectations before the competition, but coming in second place with this level of riding feels always good.” Sateroy (who, like Gremaud, was in just his second World Cup competition) took third place with a one-two punch of left triple 1440 safety and then a switch left double 1080 tail, for a score of 173.4. On the big air World Cup leaderboard, Dahlstrom now has 160 points, 54 ahead of Giulia Tanno’s (SUI) 106. On the men’s side, Dahlstrom’s compatriot Henrik Harlaut was able to maintain a narrow hold on top spot in the men’s standings despite a ninth-place finish on Friday, with 129 points to Mahler’s 124.
