Gianlu33 reacted to Federer91 in Formula 1 FIA World Championship 2020
Schumacher is infinitely more likeable and charismatic. He had a string of memorable rivalries for many years with just as exceptional and interesting drivers, which has been lacking in F1 in the last 7-8 years. He had the aura that made you believe he was the best. No one was talking about the car 15-20 years ago, like they do now. Everything about Hamilton's persona on and off the circuits is off-putting and the whole world, bar an island, is dreading the time when history will be disgraced..

The total number of former Olympians who passed away in June was 40, just short of this year's high of 42 seen in April.
This included six Olympic champions with the sport of water polo hit particularly hard. Two triple gold medallists from Hungary Gyorgy Karpati and Tibor Benedek died within a day of each other. They were from two different generations but both contributed hugely to their country's domination of this sport since the 1930s. Aleksandr Kabanov of the former Soviet Union had an equally distinguished career in the sport winning two gold medals as a competitor before coaching Russia to consecutive titles in Sydney and Athens.
In a sad month for Hungary they lost a third Olympic champion with the death of fencer Istvan Kausz who won a gold in the team epee in Tokyo in 1964. Pete Rademacher of the USA was the Olympic heavyweight boxing champion in Melbourne in 1956. Finally, at Munich in 1972 John Cuneo of Australia won a gold medal in sailing's three man Dragon class.
Noel Vandernotte of France was one of the few remaining pre-WW11 Olympians at the time of his death. As a 12 year old he coxed both the pair and the four to bronze medals at the 1936 rowing regatta. Marlene Ahrens won a silver medal in the javelin in Melbourne in 1956 and remains the only Chilean woman to win an Olympic medal.
Pieter van der Kruk of the Netherlands was a national champion in both weightlifting and shot putting. In an unusual occurrence he qualified for the 1968 Olympics in both sports but ultimately decided that he would concentrate on weightlifting.
Lastly it it is particularly sad to note the death of Bobana Velickovic of Serbia who becomes the fourth competitor from Rio to leave us this year.

Who cares? He wasn't remember for his racist position but for his role in the IOC. I really hate this new iconoclastic fury.

Gianlu33 reacted to MHSN in Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024 Sports Programme
an interview with some Azerbaijani official (also has a position in UWW) made some headlines in wrestling community , that guy claims Greco-Roman will be replaced by Beach Wrestling ! they did that for 2022 YOG and will do the same for 2024 Paris. (according to the Azeri guy)
to me it's really hard to believe that UWW will propose such a thing ! the current UWW president is from Serbia , and in most European countries Greco is more active than freestyle. in fact we usually have more wrestlers in Greco-Roman compeititon comparing to freestyle. replacing this with beach wrestling nonsense is like crime against humanity !

former autosport driver and multiple paralympic champion Alex Zanardi earlier today suffered a terrible accident with his handbike (apparently, he crashed against a truck ) and now he's in grave life danger...
right now he's having a very complicated neurological operation after suffering a hard head trauma...
c'mon, man! if there's someone who can survive something like this, it's you!

Gianlu33 reacted to heywoodu in Judo 2020 Discussion Thread
Dutch heavyweight Ilona Lucassen has died due to for now unknown reasons, aged only 23. She was in the national team since 2016, won a GP bronze medal in 2018, silver in the European mixed teams championships in the same year and competed in Tel Aviv GP early in this year.
Edit: a message from her former judo school apparently says "she has been fighting with herself immensely. Sadly she has left us last Friday."

Gianlu33 reacted to Olympian1010 in Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024 Sports Programme
I can look. Some federations make their intentions public, while others wait for the suspense of the announcement.
I don’t know why the IOC doesn’t make it public knowledge what events federations are asking them to include. I feel like it would help gage interest.
