  1. is now a member of the ISU (for speed skating) according ITG.
  2. I was going to mention that, but it doesn’t matter in this race. I think Qatar is the better of the two (it’s generally regarded as the “most liberal” of the Middle East powers).
  3. I want to start a petition to reallocate all the California conservatives to North Korea so they can see what real tyranny looks like. If being asked not to meet in groups, or go to beach or movies just for a few months to protect the public is their version of tyranny, then they’re going to be in for a real shell shock in North Korea.
  4. This is the type of stuff that’s great for keeping moral high during lockdown. Keeping moral high is one of the best ways to make sure everyone adheres to the rules. Props to this awesome lady
  5. We haven’t really had a global epidemic though. SARS was much more contained than Covid-19, and other possible pandemic just never happened because of sound medical judgement (Swine Flu, Ebola, etc.). So while this data is fun to look at, it’s not really a true assessment of world aviation. There’s never been a situation like this in the time of modern air travel. Plus, people are choosing not to fly even though they have the capacity to do so. The data will be more relevant in the time after Covid-19.
  6. I’m not bothered by empty stadiums. I know I’m in the minority on that, but spectators aren’t needed for me to enjoy an event. Especially when it comes to rich countries who can pretty much afford to have white elephants. The venues look spectacular and there’s plenty of room for people who actually want to be there. As long as the streaming, results systems, and athlete facilities are good, I’m happy. Of course there should definitely be a case made about human rights in countries are awarding hosting rights for multi-sports games. India could have won because of the infighting between Qatar and Saudi. If the OCA didn’t want any enemies, India would have made a nice third party host. India’s bid would have been plagued by the skeleton of Delhi 2010 of course.
  7. And another, 2021 Commonwealth Youth Games cancelled. The CGF will look at having an edition of the games in 2023, but there might not be another addition of the games until 2025.
  8. 2021 ANOC World Beach Games cancelled Bidding process for the 2023 ANOC World Beach Games to take place in 2021 now. Source: https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1093795/anoc-postpone-world-beach-games I will lose my shit if the IOC cancels the Olympics after all of this havoc they’ve caused.
  9. We’re not Iceland. Sports aren’t equal.
  10. Sure, go ahead propose a sport. @OlympicIRL is handling the song contest I believe.
  11. Canada, unlike the US, learns from massive tragedies.
  12. The plot in the Biden scandal has thickened yet again. It’s become public knowledge that his campaign team went through some Senate record at the University of Delaware. He claims they were looking for proof that Tara Reade had submitted an official complaint. He says they didn’t find anything. When asked if he’d released what exactly his team went through, he said “there’s no need.” So, he probably did it.
  13. I was thinking more along the lines of where did I recognize it from. I had specific event in mind.
  14. Seriously. It can’t be that hard to make a little money from somewhere other than the IOC or some shady Russian billionaires...
  15. There’s actually three Matt’s thinking about it We’re forming a Matt based Olympic forum hierarchy
  16. It’s like every hour American politics get crazier today...
  17. We’d just straight arrest these idiots in California. I never thought Covid would be the thing to push us ever so closer to Civil War...
  18. I absolutely agree about sexual desire, and it’s absolutely fine to have it, but how you act on it is another thing. Yes, Democrats and Republicans both love to virtue signal. That’s one of the consequences of a two party system. I will say that Democrats have proven to be anything but perfect in recent years. It’s embarrassing as a journalist, that many respectable outlets aren’t even chasing this story. Plus, when one does (Chris Hayes on MSNBC) Democrats get #FireChrisHayes to trend on Twitter for two days. Yeah, the progressive wing (30% of the party) will seriously question supporting Biden now. The problem for Democrats is that they encompass everyone who’s not a member of the GOP essentially. There’s multiple wings within the party itself. We’re generally less united, and have a wider range of policies. The GOP has a very clear unity around what they believe, and that works to their advantage unfortunately.
