  1. Oh duh! That’s how I know them. God, it’s been killing me that I couldn’t remember how I found them for this entire contest!
  2. They’re kind of in their own genre honestly. They’ve taken Western Rock and really infused it with traditional Tuareg sounds and lyrics.
  3. If @Grassmarket entered a song (I can’t remember if he did), that’s who I’d suspect.
  4. That song screamed @Wanderer (a.k.a. Woke hipster). I wasn’t big into it at first, but it grew on me.
  5. @Agger @mrv86 picks are easily some of the most shocking to me so far. @konig going with PUR is a nice surprise too. Both @Agger and @Wumo choose rock songs interestingly.
  6. Now I get why @Fly_like_a_don wanted people to be able to change away from famous artists at the beginning of the contest
  7. Also, Anselmo Ralph is a judge on The Voice Portugal, so Angola is @kungshamra71
  8. Also, since my identity is known...I can finally tell @Werloc which artists I was familiar with. They were: Bob Marley, M.I.A, K’naan, Dua Lipa, Tinariwen, Hatari, Anselmo Ralph, Toše Proeski, and Rihanna. I also happened to hear Black Power in a movie right after the contest started.
  9. Full disclosure, Belize was one of my favorite songs. I totally expected it to make the Round of 16. I was one of the few who ended up voting for it in the end. If this was a true TISC, that would have been my 10 or 11 point song. Vocals were unmatched by every other entry, and I’m a sucker for traditional music.
  10. Yeah I wasn’t shocked at all when he told me. I believe my exact response was “Of course.” Leave it to the royalist, rock loving user to choose the royalist, rock song
  11. The thing that’s somewhat unique about Klámstrákur when it comes to Hatari’s music, is that it is Klemens who does the main vocals. Usually it’s Mathias’ persona who’s screaming about the errors of the world, while Klemens sings more angelically about hope or beautiful destruction (i.e. Ragnarok). I think there’s a lot of symbolism in giving the “repressed” character the lead in this song. This song is much more BDSM and techno than most of their other music too.
  12. Fixed it. I was really close to choosing Norfolk Island, but I just couldn’t leave Iceland like that.
  13. I knew just from the song tbh. It reeked of @Werloc tastes. I actually was going to post multiple times that I thought it was you, but I didn’t want to be the only person guessing people’s identity before the final. The song isn’t bad, it just isn’t for me. You railed on other songs for being overproduced, but Japan’s was bad. It can’t stand that pop-rock style where you can barely here the singer over the background instruments. The song did score highly in book for its lyrical merit though.
  14. Hey, every contest needs it’s thirsty song. I didn’t intend to choose Hatari at all, I very much intended to choose KALEO, but I then saw Klámstrákur and thought “Well I have to submit that to see how Totallympians will react to that.” I’ve really grown to like the song as well. It’s a play on how women are often overly sexualized in the music industry. I’m not all that disappointed where the song ended up. I’m only upset about losing to Cuba because that was easily one of the worst songs in the contest.
  15. He’s also one of the 7/8 artists I was familiar with I actually know him more from his Macedonian folk work, than from his more singer-songwriter songs like this. Zajdi-Zajdi is one of my favorite songs of all-time, though I’m not actually the biggest fan of his version.
  16. A very deserving bronze medalist in my opinion. He is the one song that I expected to do well, that actually ended up with a decent result.
  17. Great to see Belarus receive some accolades. They really deserved to be in the main draw.
  18. Better be on the lookout for the Dai-Li. We don’t need unwanted authoritarian influence on the jury.
