  1. Not everyone knows much about all the sports & events, certainly I don't, so I am very interested in what people - who surely follow some sports more than me - think: who should win in this poll. @thiago_simoes what you think about gymnastics here? @MHSN any thoughts on wrestling, if you don't mind? @phelps as a fencing fan - among 100+ other sports :-))) - is always here, thank you very much for that, always nice to read! what are your thoughts again? and maybe @Vektor would like to add his choice as well... or all the others. I'm sorry if I forgot someone. maybe we have someone who knows more about modern pentathlon here as well... :-) waiting for your words of wisdom, all your votes and comments. Bye!
  2. Poll #31. These are olympic champions in certain events. Imagine that all these champions are on the top of their game at the very same moment in time. Who would have won gold? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Olympic_medalists_in_gymnastics_(men)#Parallel_bars https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Olympic_medalists_in_freestyle_wrestling#Super_heavyweight https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Olympic_medalists_in_modern_pentathlon#Women's_individual https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Olympic_medalists_in_fencing_(men)#Foil,_individual https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Olympic_medalists_in_cycling_(men)#Sprint,_individual

  4. Results ATHLETICS - Men's 10,000m 1. Haile Gebrselassie ETH (T) 2. Mo Farah GBR (T) 3. Paavo Nurmi FIN It is fortunately quite rare here that I need to break the tie for the 1st place. In such cases I choose the one I voted for by myself. So there is a gold for Gebrselassie after a tense finish against Mo Farah, sth like he sprinted out Paul Tergat in Sydney. 7. Our friends here found a detailed events schedule today. https://press.paris2024.org/assets/paris-2024-olympic-sport-events-schedule-pdf-2db8-7578a.html?dl=1 So maybe it's time for a new thread here. Sth similar to this one: https://totallympics.com/topic/2360-tokyo-2020-day-after-day-as-it-could-have-happened/#comment-284565 I know it's way too early, but why not??? But don't take it too seriously, please remember - it's a joke!
  8. HA! I found an old photo of this Jo Fenn stuff Yes, she was a musician as well, she has even sent a CD with her songs then! And she was a fashion model also, had a nice MySpace webpage (remember MySpace, anyone? :-))) Not only a runner, she was involved in many different activities, her interviews were interesting. All of this together might have been a reason why my sister liked her the most, although there were certainly a few faster runners those days.
  9. As I said before, I have never watched the Commonwealth Games much. But I have a Commonwealth Games story in my family history... My sister was a good 800m runner at junior level here in Poland. She was 6th at Junior Nationals one year. And her favourite 800m runner was an English athlete - Joanne Fenn. A really good runner, a very nice person, she took part in Athens 2004 olympics, performed well but didn't make it to a final and then was a bit overshadowed by Kelly Holmes magnicifient triumph. Back in 2006 my sis had a difficult year, serious exams at the end of the highschool etc. She was quite stressed about it and to cheer her up I wrote an e-mail to an English athletics club, Joanne Fenn trained there, and I said sth like: my sis liked her so much, she's a kind of role model for her, so if she could send a photo with a few words of sympathy that would be awesome... and I asked her: make it a surprise for her. And few days later a surprise package came from UK, and inside there was not only a photo with greetings, but a full running outfit prepared for Fenn as a member of 2006 England Team for Commonwealth Games held in Melbourne that year. We were just stunned. And then... it turned out that Fenn made it to a team and then - at the very last moment - she had to withdraw because she had really serious health issues, she had even got a major operation on a grapefruit-sized cyst... So I guess it was a win-win situation. My sister was sooo happy about it and I think Jo Fenn smiled a bit when at her awfullest times she got news that she means so much for young runners somwehere abroad. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joanne_Fenn There is not so much news on the internet about what's Joanne Fenn is doing these days but I hope she's healthy and she's having a good life. I think we still have these clothes somewhere...
  10. Yes, it is like basketball tournament in Tokyo, sb wrote about it here few months ago. Another stupid change in olympic "core event" format. Ehhh...
  11. No. There is a PDF file with all the details. You need to download the file and scroll it down. The new details are from page 4 I guess
  12. There are these athletics repechages in the programme indeed. Ehhh…
  13. Don’t be too harsh on yourself. We will see so many urban olympic changes in the future, we will be thinking some of them are jokes but they will not be. Just wait for it…
  14. Thank you very very much!!! I will be busy until midnight hours analyzing this!!! 😉
  15. It's even tagged as "April 1" so we can stay calm here, I think. Uff...
