  1. Most online communities I've been part of have seen a huge drop in activity once people started thinking it'd be a good idea to have a WhatsApp group or whatever Nothing that can't be posted here I guess, either in public or in private messages/chat, so I can't really see the added value at all (and like Sindo said, there's also a Facebook group that's used when the forum is down)
  2. Not normally of course, but nowadays, yes. I believe they are not exactly in this state yet, but that's only a matter of days, and by then there is a list of situations where people would not be admitted to intensive care units anymore: - Heart attack where nobody was present, so too much damage has been done - Severe trauma or severe burns with a 90% chance of dying or more - Serious and irreparable brain conditions - Cancer that has spread, including leukemia with a low life expectancy - Organ failure with a low life expectancy - Immune system illnesses with a low life expectancy (such as people suffering from HIV/AIDS in a too advanced stage) - Terminally ill people - People who are entirely depending on help in their daily life My sister's boyfriend obviously falls into the last category there.
  3. I don't know Zuñiga and Beltran, I wasn't sure about Yonathan Fernandez ( @Jesús ), although he gave me a Chilean army/sports team t-shirt last October in Brazil which made me think maybe he could be in military games too, and I had no idea Claudia (who is wonderful) was in that as well, cool
  4. Obligated exam for people trying to become Dutch citizens https://speld.nl/2020/03/25/maak-hier-het-verplichte-corona-inburgeringsexamen/ 1) In the Netherlands we ... shake hands A) do B) don't 2) You're in a bus and an old lady gets in. What do you do? A) You politely ask her if she wants to sit in your place. A) With everyone who doesn't have a lot of friends to invite for the wedding. B) With old people, people with breathing problems and people with diabetes. C) With everyone who hasn't recently been to Italy. 4) In the Netherlands, we find it normal for two men to walk hand in hand. A) False B) True 5) A homeless person is lying on the street. B) Children don't go to school. 7) In 2020, Dutch people can be divided into two groups. Which groups? A) People with children and people without children. B) ...call the police and applaude when they arrest the bootcampers. C) ...I am part of this group, but afterwards go on Twitter to tell everyone how shocked I am.
  5. him* I knoe Juan Agurto of Chile is/was in the army, not sure about which Argentinians are but since one of their main bases around races (Bariloche I think) is in a military complex, I wouldn't be surprised if they've got a few as well.
  6. As far as Brazilian winter sports athletes (at least XC and biatlon) go, that'd only be veteran Fabrizio Bourguignon who would be eligible for it
  7. Thanks for the reminder. That's going to be the first time in forever that I don't really care about it in terms of when I have to wake up. Normally of course Sunday morning is the early start of a full day of sports and I really do want to be awake in time, but now...why would I care if I wake up an hour earlier or later or whatever?
  8. "Drowning in their own lungs" is an expression I've often heard. I hope they manage to sedate as many people as possible, so at least not everyone is conscious during all this.. My sister works in the children's hospital next to one of the main hospitals in the Netherlands. Several colleagues are being trained quickly to step in at the intensive care units there, luckily not her yet. There will of course always be children getting sick and needing care, coronavirus or not, so she can keep doing that. Also, her boyfriend has a bad muscle disease and bad lungs (he needs help with pretty much everything in daily life, the most he can do is drink and eat by himself and use his computer and phone), so she should very much be kept away from this virus as much as possible - he is, after all, in the group of people who won't receive intensive care help if necessary in this situation, meaning it'd be game over for him.
  9. Yeah, 48 thousand new ones a few days ago...60 thousand new cases two days ago, 64 thousand yesterday and today we're already at almost 55 thousand with still some big American numbers to go...a few more days and we're up to 100k a day.
  10. Thanks for bringing it to my/our attention though, it is at the very least better to receive this big blow relatively early than in November or something when the season is about to start. Next challenge: getting through this disappointment and rescheduling the season that had been - in big lines - schedules this week.
  11. Their 21st, but not 18th birthday? Yeah she's looking into it already at the moment, messages have already been sent and now it's a matter of waiting (but it would be no surprise at all if the Brazilian federation(s) had no clue about this..). It would be a really massive blow, but at least that would mean full focus on the world championships.
  12. Here it is now illegal to rob stores without a mask.
  13. Yeah I understood it's only for during this crisis But I mean (it's not criticism, it's only curiousity) is this only for fathers (so, males) or also for a woman who's partner is giving birth (as in, a lesbian couple getting a child)?
  14. Is this specifically for fathers only? Or also for women who's partner is giving birth?
  15. Can we take over this rule and - just to make sure the virus doesn't come back - keep it in place for the next 75 years?
  16. Oh I would really not be sure about that. The Brazilian snow sports federation didn't even know the Olympic qualifying rules for 2018 in the pre-Olympic season (being convinced having two qualified athletes wouldn't be too hard). Any info would be very much welcome indeed.
  17. Wait, that'd be pretty big indeed, because as far as I know the Brazilian university sports federation has already said she's eligible. It seems rather weird to change those rules and let them go into effect immediately, while plenty of athletes might already have been planning for them? This sudden change would suck big time, one might say..
  18. Oh my, the suspense during Yip's lead attempt! That, and the way it ended, is going on my list of favourite 2020 sports moments (it would have been there also if 2020 actually had more than 2,5 months of sports ).
  19. I'm no expert, but especially Lyu Xiaojun's performance seems very impressive considering he's only slightly above the weight limit, as opposed to many others, and he still set absolute world class results. Hou Zhihui was pretty close to her world championships silver medal weight and was even inside the weight limit. Wang Zhouyu even surpassed her gold medal winning world championships score and was way under the weight limit, impressive (even though I'm guessing women's 87kg is not nearly as competitive yet as men's 81kg). Very interesting to see, especially to have the actual body weights included!
  20. Someone like Hadadi, I think so too. But it could be the opposite for endurance athletes, who if I'm not mistaken often have a rather weak immune system..
  21. A function that can also be used not for quotes only, but to post entire articles and only post the link and/or headline outside of the spoiler.
  22. Commentator Charlie Bosco isn't really good at keeping track of the live scores, is he? I'm watching the women's final now and the first three women have finished the lead section. Aguado is at the moment on 14 points (2nd in speed, 7th in boulder, 1st in lead), Rojas on 16 points (1st, 8th, 2nd) and Bosco said "that means Rojas is now out of contention for the Olympic ticket". That's just bullshit though! Only one climber needs to pass Aguado and then Rojas has passed her (Aguado would for example go from 14 to 28 by moving from 1st to 2nd in lead, while Rojas would move from 16 to 24 - and ahead of her - by moving from 2nd to 3rd in lead). Is it really that impossible to simply have a little Excel sheet to follow along?
  23. Apparently a federal judge in Rio de Janeiro basically said 'screw you' to Bolsonaro and turned back his utterly idiotic decision of saying religious services are a 'vital thing' and so had to remain allowed. Thankfully at least someone, being of course that judge, had...you know, a mind.
