  1. I noticed it as well.. To be fair, it's only a matter of UAE being smart and the other nations being, well, stupid. UAE are very careful in reading the rules, and we can only blame the other nations for not doing so.
  2. With me going first: does anybody know where there is a timetable for all sports? I am 100% sure that maybe a half year ago there was the official ticketing website which had daily timetables (so timetables, not just a general competition schedule), but that's nowhere to be found anymore.
  3. I was quite amazed to see there is no "general thread" about the Rio Olympics yet... I mean, not every bit of news or not every question fits in one of the other threads, so why not put all those kind of things in here?
  4. Elyane Boal of Cape Verde, the girl who received the quota place, turned 18 yesterday. What a birthday she must have had
  5. Try reading from here: Maybe you have to contact Sindo, because you not being able to give reputation should come from you being premium member (the premium member group wasn't allowed to give reputation yet), but Sindo said he fixed that and for me it worked. I thought that would work for everyone now then
  6. Succesful German cross-country skier Denise Herrmann will change from XC to biathlon, starting the training for biathlon next week http://www.sueddeutsche.de/news/sport/biathlon-langlaeuferin-denise-herrmann-wechselt-zum-biathlon-dpa.urn-newsml-dpa-com-20090101-160426-99-733998 I really wonder how smart of a move that is, so short before the Olympics. In XC there's basically no doubt she'd be in the German Olympic team, but in biathlon she'll have incredibly much more competition to beat. On the other hand, of course she should choose what she prefers...if she's "done" with XC, there's no use in "forcing" her to keep doing that.
  7. Is that confirmed/official? Because if so, it would mark their debut in gymnastics
  8. Thanks! Yes it's such a shame Eric Pang got injured since his great performance at the world championships last year...otherwise he might have had a serious shot at qualifying.
  9. The Flanders sports authorities answered my e-mail a while ago saying they aren't sure about it. Some days ago WTF announced the quotas (it's somewhere in the taekwondo thread) and they still had her as regufee athlete. This whole thing is being a huge discussion already for a couple of months now and most people, including me and I guess you, are hoping she will compete as refugee athlete. Because indeed, if she competes as Belgian, Belgium would have had 2 athletes in her weight class and that would just be wrong/illegal/unfair.
  10. Female archery champion and male super heavyweight weightlifting champion, all in one person
  11. This crap again Why on earth does AIBA give a tournament this important to a country that apparently can't even guarantee the safety of the participants...well the answer seems obvious of course.. $€
  12. Yes there are indeed 9 there, I think I forgot how to count for a moment Thanks!
  13. I see 8 qualified Iranian female athletes in this list, do you know who they are missing? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran_at_the_2016_Summer_Olympics I would like to write a little news article about it on a Dutch website, but of course it's quite crucial to be correct about which athletes qualified and it seems Wikipedia is not correct yet
  14. Oops, I thought you were talking about one athlete (Alizadeh, I didn't know the others) I can especially imagine it'll be a huge pressure on her shoulders, considering her very young age and her status as one of the main favorites..
  15. It would be quite awesome to see an Iranian woman win a medal in Rio, I'm definitely rooting for her to get that far
  16. Does it have something to do with some sort of active encouragement of female sport in Iran in recent years? I mean, is it getting more common for "average women" - people like you and me - to start engaging in sports compared to 10-20 years ago? It's interesting, but good to see this number rising year after year
  17. Wow, what an absolutely epic Moto3-race by Brad Binder Starting from 35th and last position and winning the race
  18. I thought in the end FIBA wants to have a Champions League instead of the weird competitions there are now?
  19. I only noticed right now that that's not a new PB at all. She already ran 4:08 as a junior in 2009 Obviously that doesn't mean 50.7, 1:58 and 4:10 within 4 hours is not crazy Just something I noticed now while looking at some betting odds for these events.
