  1. Guys, individual qualification is not over yet, still one GP to go. P. S. next men's Sabre World Cup is scheduled in 2 weeks in Padua, but it looks like authorities are cancelling all sports events in the region until 1 March at least
  2. For individual no quota is mathematically decided but let's say that it's basically certain that: - (name tbd) and one between (name tbd) will get the Asian spots; - Toldo will get the PanAm spot; - (most likely Samandi) will get the African spot; -two out of Mepstead Llavador Choupenitch Siess will get the European spot, with GBR and ESP big favourites
  3. And Russia gifted Germany the qualification in men's foil. So: qualified - Japan will surely use their host quotas to have a team here.
  4. Some media reported that Loginov's coach was actually using an Ukrainian accreditation under a fake identity, that is also a crime...
  5. And Hungary it is in women's foil at the end. Poland failed to win the 3rd place match and the Olympic spot.
  6. Or Italian authorities are just dumb and should have taken the same approach of many other countries at the moment, no mass testing=few cases and no panic and claim that the country is dead, some deaths that can be counted among those for influenza or other patologies and that's it.
  7. Meanwhile (women's foil) Jeon Hee Sook (tbd) have secured an individual quota Not mathematical, but still almost sure quota for: (Leonie Ebert, not yet mathematically) Ines Boubakri Saskia Loretta Van Erven Garcia For the last European spot we have to wait.
  8. the first part of your post is true, which makes the second part false
  9. no, if Poland are 3rd they qualify for sure, even if Hungary finish 5th
  10. So in order to qualify, Poland need to finish 3rd or better OR Hungary ending up in 8th place.
  11. Miyachi has won 2 stages, Zonderland 3 now- see https://www.fig-gymnastics.com/site/rankings/ranking_mag.php , there is no need for the tiebreaker if Miyachi won't take part in the next stages.
  12. Talking about Olympic qualification, huge result for Llavador...while a few teams missing this women's foil stage means that Egypt is basically guaranteed a top 16 spot now.
  13. Only prophetic dreams in which I see some future competitions...for a small fee anyone who wants to know the results is welcome.
  14. There are no senior African Championships, other countries only field teams for youth categories. The only official continental competition South Africa regularly participates in is the EU Nations Cup with weaker European teams.
  15. If there is any schedule change due to the coronavirus, it will probably be the cancellation of the Games.
  16. [hide] No transfers Nation Captains ITA D. Wierer NOR J. T. Boe Nation Women GER Denise Herrmann NOR T. Eckhoff CZE Marketa Davidova FRA Anais Bescond Nation Men FRA M. Fourcade GER Benedikt Doll SWE Sebastian Samuelsson RUS A. Loginov [/hide]
  17. Reading this thread feels like watching some sitcom episode in which a group of people protest and boycott an event choosing to not participate but then every few minutes one of them sneaks in to see how things are going and let everyone know that he's not participating.
  18. As the old saying goes, when a man from Munich meets a man from New York, one week later they can win an Oceanian Olympic quota.
  19. Funny how Vittozzi complains about Wierer skipping a relay and resting for the following day's mass start when she was the first one that was allowed to do exactly the same last season, in Ruhpolding - and they were first and second in the WC standings by then, with only a few points separating them.
  20. You can write in your application that you'd go to Madrid and work 12 hours a day for free, your chance of being hired would skyrocket.
  21. Muddying the waters...or maybe the "know-it-all who actually knows little or nothing and is always right anyway" syndrome - if doctors' TUEs don't need to be obtained to take a drug legally then all the talk about doctors-athletes complicity and faking illnesses doesn't make sense (like in the case of real TUEs) but whatever.
  22. Lots of misinformation and mixing apples with oranges - Froome's case is not TUE doping, he went over the salbutamol limit allowed without having a TUE, if he had been granted a TUE by a doctor there would have been no case. Same for many Norwegian skiers who (ab)use (of) medications within the legally allowed limit but if they go over that limit they risk disqualification not having been granted any TUE (see Sundby). And of course Russians are persecuted by evil whites because they are brown, "it is known".
  23. Events that were to be held in China have been moved: - Women's epee on the weekend of 22 March will take place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan instead of Chengdu (this will be the last World Cup included in the Oympic ranking); - Foil Grand Prix in May will take place somewhere TBD.
  24. Greece is comparable to South Africa and would lose all matches by 30 without having a chance to advance to quarters? That's news to me - the quality of the tournament is important to someone, Greece instead of South Africa would be a huge step ahead...now one group will be essentially of 4 teams with everyone advancing again.
  25. If Europeans don't qualify they have to look at themselves first, it's their fault. If the African team(s) is (are) shitty, the fault is on FINA that couldn't develop the sport among those who don't care. Got to love the double standards here - without doubt due to the fact that the South Africans have had a much harder life than their European counterparts. After all South Africa beat the powerful Korea at the WCh so they have a recent official win, they deserve to get an Olympic spot.
