Its too sad that we want every indian participating in olympics win gold while nobody is even interested how these sportsperson have qualified for Olympics... Nobody follows sports till olympics except cricket where the cricketers servant is getting higher salary than some of our sportsperson... Check Saina then Indian men Hockey... they got some push and they are doing good... while deepika kumari win world cup ... creates world record .. at that time somewhere near obituary we find this news and she may be given Rs 50000 as inaaam.... suddenly in olympics billion eyes will focus on this poor girl who never got importance for her past work and now we want her to get only gold...
Anyways point is simple and easy... in this forum too I have seen sports lover posting indian athletes updates irrespective of events and are regularly updated ... This also helps us to monitor our sportsperson progress... while some are here only for olympics... Olympics is not everything and if we need to make it everything then give importance to all of there success too...

Guys
to get a detailed times of all indian events all you need to do is go to google ( type India rio schedule and this will give you a detailed pop up which gives the exact accurate details ( done by the good people at google ) and also a day by day schedule
you can also look at the option of atheletes click on whoever and you get when they will be in action ( this is a mind blowing feature )
also the site https://www.rio2016.com/en/schedule-and-results-day which is the official site gives you detailed schedules of activities
This link gives you http://time.unitarium.com/rio-2016/#time the clock which gives you rio time and your local time

I remember there were reports some time back about AFI not knowing where Seema was. It was later revealed that she was training in Russia. So, sadly, won't be surprised if she fails the test.
Similarly, for Nirmala, with Yuri Ogorodnik as coach, it is quite possible.

Can understand Narsingh doping, why will the other wrestler also dope....That strongly supports sabotage story, because even his spare partner too is caught in it. So its clear that the supplement has been tampered. Now remains to see who.

With due respect, Chain Singh has been in much better form in the past 2 years while Gagan is a legend who is in good form as well. So, sadly if Sanjeev Rajput was selected it would have meant 1) Either Gagan Narang or Chain Singh, who are in decent form would have missed out on atleast one event 50x3 or 50 prone (or Rio if Sanjeev was selected to start in both) and 2) Young and talented Kynan Chenai would not have been able to get the exchange quota. So, leaving Sanjeev out of Rio bound team was a tough decision but it was also the correct decision.
We need to stop analysing decisions based on events that happened after the decision was made. Nobody knew Rajput would win silver here, nobody knew Pooja Ghatkar would perform so well. Based on the information NRAI (and we) had at the time of selection, I think NRAI did a perfect job of team selection.

Just to add to the discussion going on about participation numbers, we had 83 participants in London. If the women's 4x400 relay team qualifies and the golfers qualify and a couple more boxers qualify, we'll get to something like 106-108. That is an increase of 23-25 participants.
Now, that number of 23-25 may look large, but remember that 16 of that is contributed by the women's hockey team and 5 by the women's relay team - both of them sure to be also-rans at the olympics. So, realistically, those 21 athletes actually translate to just 2 quotas, just 2 more events we will be participating in. Further, 2-3 spots will be contributed by Golf which was not a part of London to begin with.
Is that really such an improvement over London, even in participation terms, let alone medal terms ?? Dont think so..Given a choice, I personally would have preferred a contingent of, say, 87, which included the men's archery team than a contingent of 106 which includes 2 also-ran teams.
So, realistically, the strength of this contingent is very similar to the London contingent. Even in terms of medal prospects, I predict we'll end up with 5-7 medals, as opposed to the lofty prediction of 10 by the babus.
I feel Jitu and Narsingh are the top level medal prospects and I expect a medal from each of them.
Narsingh proved his pedigree at the world champs (and I read somewhere that at world champs, Jordan Borroughs seeked Narsingh out and said that Narsingh was the only one Borroughs was worried about. If true, that is a huge endorsement).
Jitu's sport is a highly unpredictable sport but he is just an extremely consistent shooter. Even when he doesn't qualify for finals in world cups, he is always at least in the top 15 and within touching distance of qualifying. At the Olympics, where the size of the field will be much smaller, I expect him to make both finals and hopefully return with at least one medal.
Then we have the strong medal contenders - Bindra, Gagan, Women Archery Team, Yogeshwar, Saina, Shiva Thapa - I feel the medal chances for this bunch is around 50% - so let's say we get 3 medals from among these 6.
And then we have the medal hopefuls - all other shooters (including 2nd medal for Jitu), Sandeep Tomar, the 3 female wrestlers, whichever boxers qualify, Dipa, Sindhu, Srikanth, Deepika, Atanu, Bops/Sania, Bops/Paes, Mirabai, men's hockey team - these athletes need to have the performance of their lives at Rio to snatch a medal (just like Vijay Kumar had at London and Joydeep Karmarkar almost did) - not all of them are at the same level (Sindhu has more of a chance than Bops/Paes for example) but hoping for 1 surprise medal from this group
That brings the tally to 6, same as London...

In case any of you want to dispute that )
3. 10m Air Pistol(m) - Jitu Rai - Bronze medal at the chongwon world cup - consistently has been in finals - One of Indias top hopes

Nitin are you sure, this is not about exchanging quota, unlike the entry of Manavjit Sandhu, here we have 2 quota we can send any shooter having an MQS, that's what I understood from the Qualification Rules. Anyway thanks, can you re-check once pls.

Interesting news ................... due to doping RUS , KAZ and BLR may be banned in weightlifting if that is the case ..................... India may likely get a second quota in womens weightlifting as we are number 3 on the list for two quotas

Completely agree. After London Olympics, instead of focusing on boxing, he was busy doing movies and Roadies and then out of the blue became pro just a year before Olympics. If he was so keen about Olympics, why didn't he wait for a year or join the AIBA Pro Boxing league? And now when Vikas and Sumit are very close to Olympic qualification why is he needlessly creating a controversy. I didnt expect this from him. I thought if Vikas and/or Sumit fails to win quota here, he may try to participate in the last qualifying tournament and if needed ask for a trial against Vikas but this statement about bias against him is just sad.
-
Partha_SG reacted to kapil857 in India National Thread
His plea about what ??? There are qualifying tournaments still left..if he wants to compete he can...ask for wild card may be when he tries and loses. At the moment he may not even be the best in India. He may have to have a trial with Vikas or Sumit to determine who is better - Mary has won her trials...he cant ask for a free ride to the olympics when he hasn't even competed in a single qualification event..
And sorry, but how many world titles does Vijender have ??
Really really saddened by this statement...
And lastly, THERE ARE NO WILD CARDS PEOPLE !!! I know all that is going about Mary's wild card but this is what always happens in boxing where athletes and federations fail to understand the qualification rules. In London, Mandy Bujold from Canada and Joe Ward from Ireland made a lot of noise about wild cards when none were available !!! Joe Ward even headed to CAS and was categorically told that rules are pretty clear that if a tripartite quota (which people like to call wild card) is not given to a tripartite nation (i.e., a nation with a total of 6 athletes or less across all sports) then it has to be allocated to the highest ranked boxer at the world championships not yet qualified - and Joe Ward was not that boxer. This time, India is doing the fool's errand of asking for wild cards when none exist. In 2008, we ran this fool's errand to get a wild card for Ronjan Sodhi...
This time, the rules state that a tripartite quota, if not allocated, will be awarded to the highest ranked boxer, not yet qualified, at the final world qualification tournament. So if Manoj or Vikas lose in QFs and the boxer who defeats them wins silver, then they will be in line to receive the so-called wild card. But no other men can get it, because it doesnt exist (there are no tripartite quotas in Sumit and Devendro's categories) !!!
The only small crack in the door for Mary is that, AIBA being AIBA, actually forgot to explicitly mention how the tripartite quota will be allocated in case of women. In spirit of the rules, it should be awarded to Lin Yu Ting of TPE, who is the highest ranked boxer at the women's world championship not yet qualified for Rio. So if somehow AIBA decides to exploit their own mistake and provides Mary a free pass to the Olympics, then expect Lin Yu Ting to head to CAS, especially considering that she beat Mary in the box off at the Asian qualifier..

You win, you loose, that's the beauty of sport, the un-acceptable part seems to be the strategic error by coaches and management, how come someone keep shooting low in both matches in all rounds, not a single 10's and very few 9's, be picked on this form, especially after the early exit against Brazil. Out of 18 arrows what would be his average?

Partha_SG reacted to Smit in India National Thread
The legend is not dependent on any player. He is at rank high enough to get there. And any ranking can't decide how great he as a player is. Paes and Bopanna should be a team only because they are best placed Indian players on rankings. And Paes had asked to partner Bopanna only because he wanted to have next best ranked player.
Just a reminder to you Paes has won 4 grand slams recently compared to ZERO of Bopanna. He did not have a stable partner and some injuries costed him in rankings. You can not say he isn't playing as good as Bopanna on circuit only because he is ranked lower. He made Quarters at RG, so did Bopanna with his regular partner. He won title in Mixed, while Bopanna lost in second round itself.
Yes and last time Paes was wrong so he is missing mixed doubles this year. All settles here.
He deserves to be in Men's Doubles more than any other player. Saketh Myneni over Leander, really?

Partha_SG got a reaction from Suneet in India National Thread
sorry to say that the two situations are not the same. in 2012 leander was the top ranked indian player in MD and he wanted to form the bets team by teaming up with bopanna or bhupathi who were the next best players.how is that an unfair demand? it was they who had ganged up against him to prevent india from fielding its best possible MD team. the result was for all to see. so its completely incorrect to blame paes for this fiasco. i will agree AITA messed up the situation last time by using sania as a bait for paes to give up his claim on bopanna for MD. and the difference in ranking is due to paes' injuries also -its not as if bopanna is setting the circuit on fire. and if you consider rankings -how come saketh is preferred over leander? nobody should have complete freedom - personal choice cannot trump national interest. sania can play with whoever she wants in the circuit. In the olympics - it has to be in consultation over AITA
