The only event which had an Opening ceremony as weird as this were the 2015 African Games (though for different reasons).

Turkmenistan has won 37 medals before the Opening ceremony (comparing to 11 that they have won at previous editions put together). They will go well over 100, 150.

I expect that ceremony will be nice and all, but I can't help knowing that only North Korea and Eritrea have worse rate of censorship and free speech than Turkmenistan.

Ceremony reminds me a lot of Beijing 2008.

Can they have their own horses now since the event is in the neighbouring Turkmenistan?

Well, I have no idea if this is the Opening ceremony, but the setting is quite unique (middle of the desert).

Pretty sure those were the Akhal-Teke horses. Like the legendary horse Absent from my avatar that was in fact an Olympic champion from modern day Turkmenistan.

That was desperately close, but Kazuma Tomoto missed out on the win by 0.1 penalties. It's not over yet, but nobody can overtake Burton and Tomoto.

I hope they will broadcast equestrian though. However, that should be show (with and looking to spoil their party).

Kazuma Tomoto is leading after dressage at the unofficial World championships for 8/9 year old eventing horses... Japan is looking really promising in eventing at the moment.
