unlike past two days where we had less withdrawals, today almost everybody withdrew only 2 out of 6 finals actually happened. and for a second I thought Kiril Milov and his coaches made a dumb mistake because they called him on the mat few times and he didn't show up. (that doesn't happen if you give them the doctor's note in advance) that means disqualification but apparently it was just some misunderstanding because when the results show up on the website it was "VIN" and not "VFO" that would be too good to be true for Alex Szoke PS: in 18 finals (gold and bronze) we had 11 no show. very understanding -
@thiago_simoes I remember you were interested in Rustam Djanbaev's case something like 1.5 years ago so after so long IWF finally disqualified his results from 2018 World Championships and Fernando Reis Saraiva is now upgraded to the bronze medal position. which is (I believe) Brazil's first ever World Senior Championship medal. https://www.iwf.net/new_bw/athletes_newbw/?athlete=saraiva-reis-fernando-1990-03-10&id=3356 they also disqualified Christina Iovu from Romania, her bronze medal goes to Chinshanlo (KAZ) who was a doper herself!

oh man what a drama but it was more like a gladiator fight. that was ugly and disgusting from the Finnish guy. I can't understand why he fought like that. he deserved 3 cautions disqualification in my opinion but that throw was GREAT. and I have to say without all those things Savolainen could still win the match 1-1 (worst case scenario), Kakhelashvili could never score on him. but with that ugly style he deserved more cautions. -

what a match, and big big win for Gobadze this guy is master in his reverse throws. Alirzaev did a dumb mistake giving him that chance always nice to see Russia losing at least they have to send one wrestler to Bulgaria in Greco as well. and I have to say the officiating was very good in this match, if they wanted that was possible to screw the Georgian like what they did in the previous match. -

what an ugly win for Russia a nonsense passivity/caution/2points at the of 1st period. that's new ! they NEVER give 2pts cautions like that in middle of the match. and at the end Mnatsakanian lost only because of the failed challenge. he fought his heart out to me got robbed a quota because Russia couldn't lose another quota here. that center referee from Germany is always involved in controversies -

is there any event left to change the current ranking ? I thought this is final because I can't see anything else in ITTF calendar. I did a little check to see if this "guess" is right or not. we will have 86 male players in Tokyo. 48 for 16 teams with 3 athletes + 22 from continental events + 4 from Doha WQT + 1 Wild Card = 75 that leaves 11 quotas for Ranking + Mixed doubles players. Canada already took one by sending a different player. all other 7 teams in XD already qualified somewhere else so they won't take anymore quota. best case scenario: if those remaining 8 teams in XD don't take anymore quota, we will have 10 players to qualify through ranking. Noshad is currently 15th among non-qualified players. another best case scenario: 5 European players + 1 from Paraguay can qualify before the deadline. in this case he will climb to the 9th position in that ranking. so let's say he needs lots of best case scenarios to happen! not really possible and the point is , his chance was below 10% (and even less) that's stupid to count on that and give up the quota, even to your own brother! that's simply too stupid to happen. but people love strange theories -
I didn't even know he is here. I see the level isn't on its best in this World Cup for obvious reasons but still judging from his score he did a pretty good job.

so we know the name of 24 semifinalists here is my summary about the first session today 60: Kamal vs Turba //// Kinsinger vs Mammadov one chance in parterre was enough for Kamal to score 9 pts and beat his toughest opponent Ciobanu, he will face Turba in the SF, Kamal will be the favorite but I think Turba will have his chance if he defends that parterre. he also beat two big names to reach here. I don't know anything about this German guy, he had an easy draw and was impressive against Lizatovic. on other hand while the whole Azerbaijan squad was disappointing Mammadov did great against European Champion Gharibyan. he will the huge favorite here but nothing is impossible in Greco. 67: Korpasi vs Islamov //// Zoidze vs Galstyan Korpasi won his early final convinsingly against the European Champion from Norway, he will be the huge favorite here. but Islamov is kind of a fighter. interestingly Korpasi had to cut from 72 while Islamov had to gain weight from 63kg to meet here ! bottom half was quite a battle. Glastyan won a big match against Dadov. a very controversial one. first he received a bad call (IMO) but then destroyed the Azeri 14-6. I think he used the leg at first before collecting all these points but that doesn't matter anymore. Zoidze was OK but almost lost to Ukraine. it will be a close match. 77: Starcevic vs Varga //// Mnatsakanian vs Chekhirkin huge huge chance for Croatia. Starcevic did great by holding off Suleymanov beating 1-1 (on cautions per that stupid rule I talked about) I don't know much about Varga. I think Starcevic will win the quota. Chekhirkin gave Russian coaches heart attack so many times today but he is here in the SF after so many close wins. before today I would say Mnatsakanian has no chance against him but he was also very good today. still this will be uphill task against Russia. Nemes master plan was working well against Chekhirkin for a 1-1 win but an early pushout in the 2nd period ruined everything. kind of surprising I never saw Nemes leaving the mat like that. 87: Gobadze vs Alirzaev //// Betschart vs Abbasov Gobadze beat two big names in two tough battles to face Alirzaev in the SF. Alirzaev was shaky today. almost lost to Datunashvili and struggled even against the Italian guy. both guys can score big in parterre. hard to predict. I really like Gobadze's reverse headlock, if that works he can beat anybody in the world. who is this Switzerland guy ? I think Abbasov already has the quota but then this is Greco. everything is possible. Abbasov was losing to Aleksandrov (the only decent wrestler in his bracket) but a late caution helped him to score two gut-wrenches for the win. 97: Kakhelashvili vs Savolainen //// Milov vs Omarov Kakhelashvili was strong like a tank today winning two tough matches but this Finnish kid is no joke. I knew about his talent for a long time. I still expect Nikoloz to win this one but one mistake and Savolainen will score big on him. Milov had a close match with Szoke which I think was his real final (semifinal actually) but Omarov isn't that bad and is capable of doing something here. he was losing to the Russian wrestler of Azerbaijan but scored a takedown in the very last second to keep his hopes alive. 130: Knystautas vs Krajewski //// Varga vs Semenov golden opportunity for Lithuania and Poland to qualify. 130kg usually comes to one gut-wrench or one pushout ! the Azeri guy in top half didn't show up (probably overweight) and Romanian top seed also lost to that "one gut wrench" Krajewski showed some throwing techniques but the Lithuanian wrestler was also big and strong. I just hope it doesn't finish 1-1. someone has to score to deserves winning the quota. well I wasn't expecting anybody to even giggle Semenov and Varga is no exception. Semenov most probably will beat him easily. he is just in another level. the only way to beat him is to make him tire early. sometimes he gasses badly. I don't think Varga is capable of that. -

few minutes left before the start of important quarterfinals. Russia is really lucky to still have 3 wrestlers alive. both Chikhirkin and Alirzaev scored very late in last 15 seconds to win. for Alirzaev it was a dubious call. they had to review it for 4-5 minutes, can't say if he used his leg or not but Datunashvili was very close to eliminate Russia. Chikhirkin-Nemes will be the most important match of the QF, Nemes has a "new strategy" here, conceding the first caution and then win the match 1-1 (in case he fails to score in the 2nd period) he could count on his rock solid defense in first two matches but against Russia ? I'm not sure but I have a feeling this match is going to finish 1-1. also some notable wrestlers got disqualified (most probably failing to make weight) Noumonvi and Kandevaki for example. Alexuc-C also wrestled like a lazy bear and lost to Kosvevic that opens the door for someone new to qualify at 130kg. Poland or Croatia most probably. so far I saw 2-3 questionable calls , mostly in favor of certain country. but I'm not sure though. it's just hard to follow 3 mats at the same time. -

with this new STUPID rule, some wrestlers prefer to be "passive" in the first period. that will help a lot in case of 1-1, which happens in close matches specially in heavier weights. btw Chekhirkin survived against Georgia by a last seconds pushout. he doesn't look good at all. -

at least we will have one TT player in Tokyo. the younger brother Nima Alamian beat Kenjaev 4-2 some people here think Noshad lost intentionally to Nima, because he still has a very slim chance to qualify through the ranking. but I think that's highly unlikely. first because his chance is very slim to qualify (almost zero) and second because Nima had beaten him before. -

summary of women's quotas 50: 53: 57: 62: 68: 76: 2 for 1 for first quota in wrestling for France and Latvia 7 of 12 seeded wrestlers qualified. that's much better than just 1 from yesterday. to me that says women cut less weight. so they participate in more events therefore their ranking is more real. -

there must be rules to punish coaches who just throw that challenge thing for no reason, Turkish coaches do that a lot (2-3 times this evening already) even when there is absolutely nothing to review. -

PARANANG Orawan won the round robin and the women's Southeast Asia quota men's quota in SEA will go to Singapore. two SGP players made it to the final. in Middle Asia we had two surprises in the semis, top seed Gerassimenko lost to Kenjaev who will face the younger Alamian in the final. surprisingly Nima beat his older brother Noshad 4-1 ! I know they trained together their whole lives but when they play each other Noshad usually wins 8 out of 10. but today was a different story hopefully Nima can win the quota. we always had TT players at the Olympics since 2000. in mixed doubles. the final will be between and and the semifinals in women's middle Asia are ongoing. vs and vs ------------- Shahsavari lost her chance for the 3rd Olympics. despite 3-1 lead and then again 10-8 lead in the decider it will be vs in the women's final -

what a match in 65kg final. Tevanyan is real deal, he beat Haji Aliyev 9-0 in a tense match, no surprise that was Armenia-Azerbaijan after all. Tevanyan was a nobody 4 months ago, now he is beating big names one after another. we have our first walkover in the 74kg final but the result website considered it as "VIN" which means the Azeri guy had a doctor note (for his fake injury) some of those guys like Andreyev and Craciun (lost by walkover) are listed as VFO. which means disqualification. -

@phelps Italy has a very big team here, missing only 2-3 weights in total to have a full 17-member team (Chamizo is already qualified) . is this a new policy to invest more in this sport ? or they just found some money under the carpet while cleaning the place and decided to just send everybody to Budapest btw I was comparing the total number of wrestlers with the same event in 2016, interestingly we have more wrestlers this year which is surprising considering the pandemic -
yes I'm well aware of the situation, that was in our local media. but I'm not just interested anymore. this is funny how he managed to "sell" his normal defeats to them as intentional. all those matches are still available on the net, he only lost twice intentionally (UAE and France), the rest are normal defeats but the article mentions something like 10000 defeats. also another poor written article from ITG with so many wrong facts. but doesn't really matter. I said it before. if that was up to me, I would dissolve the Judo federation and ban the sport in the country. problem solved. everybody happy. Vizer can get his "peace" prize from whatever organization he is supposed to get. and the lying Mongolian hero can go to hell. he is the only reason I follow the sport anymore, just to watch him lose! which he does a lot recently and hopefully he continues doing that.

unlike South Asia and East Asia, there is a competition for both quotas in Middle Asia! it seems Alamian brothers are going to meet in the semifinal unless Noshad does something stupid and losses intentionally. but that would be very stupid. after all it's just 1 quota and they had to face at some point. Neda Shahsavari also looked good in the first day, still she has to win SF and the final to qualify. she will lose in the first round at the olympics even if she qualifies but if she does, she will be the first Iranian girl to participate in 3 Olympics. considering the limitations for women here, that will be a huge achievement itself. -

he cuts lots of kilos for 65kg. wrestlers like him usually struggle a lot in the first match . the body is not recovered yet, etc. he is lucky that he has 2 months between these 2 events. otherwise it would be really hard for him to recover and cut weight again. actually there are lots of problems with blind draw they can fall in the same half and meet before the final. but don't worry this is our weakest weight. I don't think we can qualify this weight in Bulgaria. it will be Asian QT or never.
