  1. the number of Iranian athletes in this event is probably higher than the number of them in the Asian Championship if I didn't miss anybody else I counted at least 11, Ghobadi, Alizadeh, Naghibzadeh, Mehdipournejad, Zolghadri, Khodabakhshi, Asemani, Beigi, Noghandoost, Hosseini, Pouryounes. most of them were in our national team before. there are couple of "nobodies" among them though. it's really amazing that everybody with any claim can be a member of this refugee team even people who are not officially "refugee" ! Kimia Alizadeh had her first competition after a while, she lost the QF handily to a girl from Croatia. I don't expect her to achieve anything considering how many injuries and surgeries she had already but we know she is good if healthy. it will be "interesting" if she (or other Iranian fake refugees) steals an Olympic quota from Europe. if IOC wants to give them a wild card that's a different story but this is completely unfair for European athletes. btw wish the best of luck for Khodabakhshi
  2. won the last quota of the day, they will have at least 5 female wrestlers in Tokyo.
  3. I think so but still can't be sure about it.
  4. because that quota goes to Nigeria, but Nigeria (unlike Ecuador) is already qualified in Africa. what about that ? they can't give that to the 3rd wrestler in Africa because of that less than 8 wrestlers rule, it probably goes to the tripartite. of course UWW can read the rules differently and simply give it to Poland (8th place at the worlds), I'm not sure how they are going to deal with this one but there is no question about Ecuador getting that quota if/when PRK officially withdraws.
  5. nope wrong, I wasn't talking about the Pan-Am qualifiers, Ecuador was 7th at the World Championships
  6. this is probably nonsense, I can say 100% nonsense, the Olympic Ranking is way too much complicated , so many variables, nobody can calculate points like that especially before the other continental championships, and 4kg more or less won't make a huge different. she will probably qualify even without her results from this competition.
  7. if MGL wins the last female quota in the Asian QT, this is how women's wrestling quotas are distributed 6 5 4 3 2 1 I didn't count 2 PRK quotas and 1 SWE quota (disqualified for doping ) it's just 81, if I understand the rules correctly, those 2 PRK quotas will go to Ecuador and Moldova.
  8. in case anybody is interested, Kianoush Rostami will participate at the non-Olympic weight of 89kg here , another desperate try from him to collect more points. if someone checks the ranking, Iran has some guys in top 15 in 96kg and 109kg but none of them are participating here, which means you can remove them from the Olympic ranking, Ali Hashemi (2 time world champion, 7th in WR at 109kg) didn't make the team and won't go to Tokyo.
  9. they never had a chance, they just sent a big team they had 4 wrestlers yesterday, their results: 60kg: 0-10 67kg: 0-9 , repechage 2-11 77kg: 0-8 87kg: 0-9 and men's freestyle results won't be much better tomorrow. absolutely no chance for a quota.
  10. summary of qualified wrestlers 50: 53: 57: 62: 68: 76: at 76, it will be between MGL, UZB and IND. MGL will qualify if she beats UZB. which is very likely to happen * China and Japan will have a complete team in women's wrestling. MGL (if qualifies at 76) will have 5 female wrestlers.
  11. looking at the results. we already know 2 qualified wrestlers in 2 weights with round robin 50: 76: MGL at 76 is not 100% qualified but she is almost there. the other 3 are 100% qualified and the semis are set for the other 4 weights 53: vs /// vs 57: vs /// vs 62: vs /// vs 68: vs /// vs
  12. Taking a look at how 84 Greco quotas are distributed 6 5 4 3 2 1
  13. I know this is way too early but after the Greco competition in Asia, we know the name of 14 qualified countries in each Greco-Roman weight. we still don't know who is going to Bulgaria, some countries may use a different wrestler but this is the list of "better wrestlers/countries" without quota. there will be seeding, I will list two seeded wrestlers I think European wrestlers will win most of the quotas, probably 9 or 10. maybe even all 12 ! 60: seeds) Gharibyan and Angelov ( and are next in line in case Bulgaria uses a different wrestler) I believe it will be only between European wrestlers, only slim chance for and to make a difference there is no clear favorite left, but I think have a better chance + those 2 non-European wrestlers are next. 67: seeds) Bakhshilloev and Ashu (, and are next if UZB uses another wrestler) again no clear favorite but they are lots of good guys, are better here, I can name 10 other countries with decent wrestlers but I'm going to stop here. this weight will be crowded in Bulgaria 77: seeds) Liakh and Rivas ( and are next) Kim and Nemes (both former world champions) are the biggest name not qualified yet and they can easily fall in the same part of the draw. have good wrestlers left, I can add few more names too. for example 87: seeds) Sunil and Avendano ( and are next) some big names are still left without quota, the biggest name is ! I don't know who they are going to send to Bulgaria but I assume that will be Chakvetadze defending Olympic Champion. Basar is a two time World Champion plus former world medalists like Shahinyan and Nouri, even though I believe Iran will send a different wrestler, (too early though, Nouri just lost today) after these guys I can add to the list too. 97: seeds) Kakhelashvili and Omarov (next is ) another European competition, I believe only in this weight the top seed is indeed the best remaining wrestler. are probably the best after him. maybe from Asia too. 130: seeds) Perez and Coon (next is ) this is a week weight in general, the level was low even in Europe. I think all notable wrestlers are already qualified but are a bit better than the rest. even and
  14. well I'm alive , but still can't walk. it was a U-turn and the car was driving slow still didn't notice me at all and hit me hard on both knees. one of them is almost OK now, the right knee still not so good. didn't go to the hospital yet because the situation is getting worse in my town regarding corona but since it doesn't heal itself I'm getting an appointment for the next week. hopefully it's nothing serious.
  15. I think @Mecki83 is right, I also never heard any complain about this rule from the WL community. it seems everybody likes it and nobody is going to change it. it makes sense actually, before 2005 it was minimum 2.5kg between your 3 attempts. which was a relatively big jump, now it's just 1kg. if your rival lifted 200kg, just go and beat him by 1kg more. if you lift the same number "after him" you probably don't deserve to rank higher than him.
  16. Yes everybody here was sure about that but well, having that good draw was too good to be true. I knew something bad will happen I guess this is why we all love sports. being unpredictable. so. short summary of qualified nations 60: 67: 77: 87: 97: 130: if we also count quotas from the World Championships for the Asian countries, 5 4 3 2
  17. sure, I can wait for the freestyle competition to be done or I can write what I think about Greco today. even though right now I feel like someone who got hit by a car (actually I did got hit by a car 8 days ago)
  18. don't know about Kim but Nouri might not even make it to Sofia. not sure if our coach "forgives" him for this defeat. they may try another guy in Sofia. but with Russia, Armenia and Turkey plus few other countries all of them without quota at 87kg, I highly doubt anybody from Iran can qualify this weight in Sofia.
  19. yep it happens, this is why wrestling is always unpredictable. and it happened for Nouri before. he just never learns. and he just ruined our perfect chance of having a full team in Tokyo. congrats btw
  20. oh my god, that's unbelievable. fucking idiot . he was leading 4-0 COMFORTABLY , tried to push his opponent out of the mat and BANG 4 pts throw in last 30 seconds. losing 4-4. gifting the quota to someone who can't place in top 6 in our nationals. what an idiot.
  21. Semis are set 60: Walihan vs Mirzorajabov /// Gyanender vs Sharshenbekov 67: Ryu vs Vardanyan /// Geraei vs Ashu 77: Makhmudov vs Gurpreet /// Zhang vs Yabiku 87: Sunil vs Tursynov /// Nouri vs Peng 97: Saravi vs Chen /// Dzhuzupbekov vs Kim 130: Abdullaev vs Meng /// Kim vs Naveen
  22. huge huge upset, the 2012 Olympic Champion Kim Hyeon-woo lost to Gurpreet Singh of India
  23. as @Olympian1010 said whoever reaches the record first finishes higher. your 2nd and 3rd results don't matter at all. Pizzolato had to lift 207 to beat the Bulgarian, he didn't even try because he didn't care much about the CJ medal. he wanted the gold medal in total and 206 was good enough for that. bodyweight used to be the tiebreaker in weightlifting for a VERY long time (since the beginning until few years ago) but it doesn't matter anymore. btw the fact that this Bulgarian kid can't qualify for the Olympics just shows how terrible is this system. it closed the door for any young talent because you had to collect points from 2018! how old he was when the qualification period started?
  24. @Vic Liu sorry but I have to ask you another question tonight do you know anything about China's possible squad for the Asian Weightlifting Championship in Uzbekistan which will start in a week ? if I understand the rules correctly. everybody has to participate in these continental Champs to be eligible for the Olympics. so I guess the Chinese squad here will give us a better idea about who is going to Tokyo.
  25. thanks a lot I know I asked such questions before. but I'm trying to understand the naming system everywhere. so whenever we see someone from China with just one word as name, he is ethnic Mongolian and we shouldn't search for a second name.
