  1. have to take it back the Tunisian girl struggled even against Madagascar and our friend from Guam lost in a minute 10-0 to Cameroon in the final. but still congrats. she took benefit of Kenya, Australia and Madagascar sending a wrestler in this weight .because with 7 or less we should see a round robin (or 2 groups) and she wouldn't qualify.
  2. well, to me that was a 2-2 , of course they give such dubious calls to the host nation. even though one can say it should 2-2 +1 for TUN at the end for the "takedown" it could be either 4-3 for CIV or 4-4 for TUN. but as far as I know about the rules 3-2 for TUN was wrong. CIV is not done yet. she still can qualify by beating Egypt. uphill task though it seems everybody is watching this but just to have a summary 50: 53: 57: 62: and the winner of last round match between 68: 99.99% and 90% . will finish 3rd and qualifies later. can be 3rd only if she wins by fall and score at least 8pts ! 76: 100%, is 2nd, but still can qualify if she just beat Egypt by any score.
  3. the girl from Guam was actually pretty good, I think Nigeria and Cameroon were the best in the field, and she wouldn't qualify if she was on the other side but that doesn't matter. a bit of luck is sometimes necessary.
  4. The Egyptian girl was very close to upset Tunisia and maybe steal one of their quotas but well that was a nice throw at the end. 50kg quotas are now confirmed for
  5. dead last and the guy was talking about his chance to qualify Years of experience tells me to not believe athletes when they talk about their chance, specially in sports like this, nobody knows jack shit about Sailing here
  6. taking a look at the results: 50: looks safe, the 2nd quota is between and (much more chance for TUN) 53: direct semifinals: vs and vs . I think Cameroon and Tunisia are safe bets here 57: again direct semifinals: vs and vs , very good chance for Guinea and Tunisia 62: is 100% qualified, and will wrestle for the 2nd quota 68: and are in better position with 1 win. but that's still just one round. remember the 3rd place matters here in this weight because Nigeria most probably will get the World Championship quota. 76: is 99% safe with a fall win, the match between and will determine the 2nd quota. Tunisia has a chance to qualify a full team.
  7. the most handsome spectator in the history of Iranian football league
  8. that's not a bad idea actually. putting a limitation on the number of wrestlers you can qualify in the continental OQT. better countries still can have their chances to complete their teams in the last chance qualifier(s) I like the qualification system in wrestling actually. simple and less complicated. but since it's just 16 per weight maybe some changes are necessary
  9. Tunisia won the last quota so in short 4 4 3 1 it's highly possible that we end up with 0 quotas for Oceania wrestlers, I wonder if that makes UWW to change the system for Paris ? the idea of merging these 2 continents were to give 5-6 quotas in total to Oceania. but now Africa is taking benefit of that. I know this is essential to get other continents involved in the sport. most African countries only invest in the sport to qualify for the Olympics. but with only 16 quotas available for each weight maybe, just maybe it's time to make some changes. give 1 quota to each continent and put the rest in the world qualification tournaments. but that will decrease the number of countries in this sport at the Olympics. so ...
  10. here are the qualified wrestlers, assuming nothing crazy will happen in the last round of some weights with round robin format it wasn't really hard to predict but I was correct 11 out of 12 60: 67: ( already qualified at the Worlds) 77: 87: 97: 130: and the second quota will be decided between and (most probably TUN) assuming TUN will win the last quota we have 4 4 3+1 Morocco ruined the 4-4-4 party. but Egypt already had the 4th quota.
  11. Morocco qualified at 77, at least we will have a 4th country winning a quota. the guy is old but that was a nice throw. and the officiating was one of the weirdest I ever seen. qualified too, so far the only mistake I had in my prediction 67 quotas will go to and unless some miracles happen in the last round.
  12. Morocco was really close at 60kg. the guy lost two close matches to Egypt and Algeria. but at the end of the day no surprise quota for
  13. very funny for someone who was moving up a weight from 92kg ! but he just made the life easier for Kyle Snyder
  14. it's really hard to judge based on the current ranking, it can change big time after just one event. but Kingue-Matam looks good. most guys above him are from China, Indonesia and Uzbekistan. he can even qualify in top 8. if not he can be the best from Europe the same goes to the French girl at 49. most weightlifters above her will be removed from the list. and the other girl at 81 is already in the qualification zone as the best European. I believe all 3 of them will qualify at the end but nothing is guaranteed. btw it's highly possible that North Korea withdraws from the Asian Championship and therefore none of their athletes will be eligible to qualify. that will make it even easier for the French weightlifters.
  15. in 3 weights with 2 groups of 3 wrestlers, we know the semifinals 60: vs /// vs 77: vs /// vs 87: vs /// vs -- 67: looks very safe, the second quota is between and 97: 100% qualified, 99% 130: looks safe, it will be between and
  16. someone turned off the lights during a match it seems and are already qualified at 96kg. they both beat Egypt and the other 2 guys were very weak
  17. I don't think so unless IWF gives them special permission. last time they gave that to few selected weightlifters (the qualification system was totally different but still some weightlifters had to participate in one more event to become eligible) so I assume most Europeans should finish their job in Moscow, if not they have to buy a ticket to Colombia and hope the event doesn't get cancelled.
  18. you can calculate it here https://www.iwf.net/weightlifting_/robi-sinclair-new-bw/ Continental Champs are considered "Gold events" which means a bit more points. just a bit though.
  19. It's about the weight they lift, not about the competition's name. not about their ranking in the competition. only the weight matters and they will receive points based on that. they have a formula to count points based on the result. and no Euro is not the last event on the calendar. beside other continental championships, there is an event in Colombia scheduled for 10-14 May open to athletes from the other continents. (I know a cancellation is possible but as of now that's still on the calendar) the qualification is done when it's done everywhere, that's when we can take a look at the ranking. and the date for that is 31 May
  20. thanks. at least this sounds like a realistic scenario. (any news regarding the Asian Championship? date and location or maybe cancelled?) I hope those guys in Japan consider this but I assume Keikha can't do anything himself to improve his chance (except making sure nobody else surpasses him in the ranking) because even winning the last WC in Doha won't improve his ranking. for a very long time folks in Iran Gymnastics federation were thinking that CHN and JPN with a full team can't qualify any more gymnasts and Keikha is in the pole position with his 3rd place in the ranking. only recently they realized they were wrong and Keikha missed his last chance to improve his ranking when FIG cancelled the finals in Baku.
  21. it's just about time, we will hear news about the cancellation soon, the great Kim Jong-un already boycotted the Olympics. I have first hand news that Biden will forbid US athletes to participate in next few weeks. Merkel and Putin will do the same soon.
  22. I don't think Iran is eligible for Wild Card in any sport. that's for countries with very small delegations in past Olympics. he is one of the athletes I like personally, I hope he qualifies by whatever method possible. but that looks unlikely based on what you guys said.
  23. but how probable is that ? I see Zonderland leading the HB ranking. it looks really hard for the Japanese gymnast to win the next world cup and beat the Dutch on the tiebreaking criteria. Gymnastics is one of the non-existence sports here, an Olympic quota can make some differences. beside that I know Keikha really worked hard for that. he deserves a bit of success near the end of his career. (here you have to win an Asian Games medal or qualify for the Olympics to draw some attention)
  24. I was taking a look at freestyle draws, I think nobody from Oceania will qualify. I'm something like 90% sure of that. last time they qualified 4 most because of some good naturalized wrestlers and pure luck in another weight. I don't think this is going to happen this year. it's a bit harder for me to have a prediction because some of these wrestlers rarely participate outside of Africa. my knowledge is limited about them. but still most quotas will go to the usual suspects even though they are less dominant in freestyle, Nigeria will qualify some for sure and GBS has a very good chance at least in 3 weights. also has a dream draw at 65. maybe slim chances for South Africa in men's freestyle and for Cameroon on the women's side. we also have only 3 wrestlers in the highest women's weight. maybe a slim chance for CIV here. and Oborududu is indeed in the list, which means the Swedish girl is not officially disqualified yet. I think the Nigerian girl is good enough to finish in top 2. and I believe they will come back here and give her quota to the 3rd girl in the ranking. like most users here I also hope for some surprised to see new countries in the Games but I don't think that's realistic. the gap is too huge.
