  1. then I hope Tian disappoints you guys it's not like I'm afraid of his competition with Moradi/Rostami. the thing is our guys probably need China's non-participation in this weight to even qualify. thanks to "not knowing the rules in advance" if I was the China's coach I would pick other 4 weights, first because 96kg is more competitive (with that Qatari guy as well) and second Tian himself is quite unpredictable. but of course I'm not in that place to decide and I'm quite biased here. Tian looks like a very nice guy though. wish him the best of luck (except on Friday )
  2. I didn't get into details for the African weightlifters, but from the first look I can say both of them are 99% qualified. they just have to participate in their own continental qualifier. just participation will be enough. and I think they will participate since Madagascar is hosting the African Champs
  3. Li Dayin bombed out (and looked a bit injured) Lyu Xiaojun failed to break the CJ and Total WRs 1. 2. 3. I guess Lyu also secured his place in Tokyo. even though nothing is guaranteed. he is 36!
  4. Chinese weightlifters broke the snatch WR twice ! 174 and 175. but it was a bad day for Iran, our young guy Soltani injured his elbow very badly that could win him a bronze medal in snatch (and probably a total medal) but he injured himself and that was one of those career-ending injuries. he is already in the hospital
  5. if you read the post below yourself @LowerSaxony has a different way to read the rules. but assuming I was correct (which I'm not sure anymore) that's true yes. Jeremy qualifies only if the Korean gets into the top 8 OR South Korea simply doesn't pick him. I think at the end of the qualification South Korea will have more than 4 male weightlifters eligible to qualify.
  6. @Illya and @Benolympique I will calculate each weight at the end of the Asian and Pan American Championships in that specific weight. but my priority is the men's weightlifting. but I will get into women's whenever I have some extra time. maybe tonight or tomorrow but I will do that for sure.
  7. Oh well you made me think twice. this is how they write the rules, I think it means not represented in that specific weight, not all 7 weights. but maybe you are right. but they didn't mention such a thing anywhere else in the qualification document. oof it was already tooooo complicated, now it just gets worse
  8. I don't think he can qualify, he bombed out in both of his competitions in the first window. which means one of his 4 results will be a ZERO. even though he collected big points in other windows but I don't think that's enough. but we will know better when I calculate the 73kg ranking tomorrow after the end of the Pan-Am Champs
  9. I also had to correct something about 61kg. I forgot that Vietnam has 3 positive doping cases and most probably get disqualified I update the 61kg possible qualification based on that
  10. I tried to create the same ranking for 67kg, I have to repeat again, mistakes are possible, I didn't focus on Africa and Oceania athletes. to make things easier for myself I removed with no chance to qualify (I mean 2nd Chinese guys etc) 1. Chen - 4591 - Pak - 3916 (no) 2. Ergashev - 3876 (NOC limited to 2) 3. Mosquera - 3715 (COL with 3 doping cases) 4. Ozbek - 3679 (NOC limited to 2) 5. Zanni - 3631 6. Konnai - 3605 7. Matam - 3540 ?. Deni - 3535 (no) 8. Chkheidze - 3501 9. Munoz - 3426 10. Han - 3357 11. Brandhuber - 3284 (also eligible for 61) 12. Jeremy - 3173 13. Pineda - 3075 14. Hernandez - 2960 15. Andriatsitohaina - 2944 (Africa) 16. Yasin - 2906 important notes: *Brandhuber is eligible in both 61 and 67, if Gemany wants to qualify more weightlifters, they can simply withdraw him from the 61kg and then they can qualify 2 WLers in both 61 and 67 *GEO probably has more than 4 athletes inside the qualification zone and has to pick. (just a guess at the moment) * Colombia has 3 positives doping cases and may be banned from Tokyo completely * I believe both TUR and UZB will pick these guys. considering everything, these guys have a better chance to qualify ==
  11. it was really "war on football" , and I really wasn't expecting "football" to win the war but wow only 2 days, Perez was stupidly confident last night, I would love to see his face now we heard a lot about the English clubs and how their fans reacted to this, they did great. but what about Italian and Spanish football fans ? mostly those 3+3 clubs ? how was the reactions from their hardcore fans ? positive ? negative ? very negative ? very very negative ?
  12. it's just like you are explaining the situation in Iran , specially those bold parts . I had to explain the difference between World Cup and World Championships like million times . mostly because here Football = Sport ! and since the biggest event in Football is called the World Cup. everybody thinks that applies to all other sports automatically ! yeah we also have that problem that football journalists are forced to write about other sports. maybe only wrestling has its own group of expert journalists. Weightlifting is not that big, actually far from that, a third tier sport actually, but there are still couple of journalists about it.
  13. there is a difference between fake injuries and exaggeration about a minor injury. whenever one of our wrestlers lose, he talks about his injury. I'm just very familiar with this excuse this is a tough sport, everybody has some injuries. well I know him very well since 2018 where he beat one of our guys at the World Championships "controversially" 7-7 at 70kg. at the time it was shocking for most fans here how come our rep can lose to some unknown guy. and I had to tell everybody that Salkazanov is a decent wrestler. interestingly the same person is going to represent Iran in Tokyo (not a sure thing yet but very likely) it will be interesting if they meet again in Tokyo. but as I said about one of Polish wrestlers, I'm not sure if wrestling here was a good idea 2 or 3 weeks before the last chance tournament. we will know the answer soon enough in Bulgaria.
  14. I follow this sport for a VERY long time. everybody has some minor injuries in this sport. I never buy these injury excuses . you are either healthy or not participating, there is no 3rd way. he just got surprised in the European qualifiers and got pinned, that happens in wrestling. (happened to our own wrestler during the Asian qualifiers) he still has a chance to qualify but he is not the only "very good" remaining wrestler and yes I remember 2019 where had to participate in a non-Olympic weight (and still won a bronze medal in one weight up his normal weight which is impressive) this is not possible he could beat only one of the bronze medalists. this the same for every other finalist in any wrestling competition. this is how repechage works in wrestling.
  15. Salkazanov had the day of his life. he beat Chamizo, Kentchadze and Zhamalov on his way to the final !!!! all 3 of them in last 15 seconds. and this guy isn't even qualified for the Olympics yet !!!
  16. it seems we are in our worst days since the start of the pandemic in past few months I tried to avoid the pandemic news because they are too depressing but it was impossible to avoid them in past few days, the government completely gave up "fighting" it (they don't have the money nor the quality) and people simply decided to have "fun" during the new year holidays and now we are facing the consequences. remember those fake news by western journalists about mass graves, they are becoming reality these days as they are extending the biggest graveyard of the city
  17. I was talking about sports officials here in general but weightlifting federation is actually one of the worst. I think I wrote about some of our weightlifting scandals in past few years here. both of our 2016 Olympic Champions are in trouble to even qualify for the Olympics because of "not knowing" the rules. Kianoush Rostami participated only in one event in the 2nd window and bombed out and then only after the competition he found out he will get a big fat zero from the 2nd window. Sohrab Moradi was in a great shape in 2018 and could participate in one more event to collect more points when he was in his best shape. yet he didn't and therefore he had to participate in so many events late in 2019 while he was recovering from a surgery. (two actually) here they claim they will bring someone with a calculator to calculate how much Moradi has to lift to qualify (that will change during the competition depends on other guy's results) I had to contact some journalists and make them write something about it. I think now they know how much he has to lift to qualify but still I'm not 100% sure.
  18. we usually have this problem with the media and the officials here, they usually don't know the rules. I had to warn them so many times before . but I thought that's only an Iranian thing it turned out to be a worldwide problem. he is probably the only who can challenge China and at worst he can win a silver , this is really stupid to throw away a medal like that. but I'm afraid it's already too late to register for the event in Colombia (unless they already registered)
  19. most probably but still not completely. for example if that Indonesian guy participates in the last event in Colombia and if Turkey decide to use this quota (I think both of them are unlikely) Turkey will be out of top 8 and will take the European quota. on other hand if Colombia gets disqualified and BUL, KAZ TUR decide to send athletes in other weights both German guys may end up in top 8. but yes his fate probably will be decided by the Germans. still we will have a better picture about the whole thing when I finish with this ranking for all 7 weights. some countries may have more than 4 weightlifters inside the qualification zone.
  20. yes that was enough to complete what she had to do to qualify for the Olympics. the rest is up to the Chinese coaches
  21. maybe and Hopefully tomorrow after the Pan-American Championships in this weight. but I can't promise, it really takes time calculating everything for each weight.
  22. 74kg level is great. lots of favorites. Chamizo just lost to Salkazanov. while Tsabolov had a disappointing debut for Serbia losing 10-7 to Kentchadze and most importantly he didn't look good.
  23. no doubt about that. but it happens as long as there is no proper seeding. they have a very poor and non-efficient ranking system but they only use it for the Olympics (and OQTs) and the World Championship. they really need to think of some kind of ranking system, something much better than the current one. which is a joke (still better than nothing though)
  24. I tried a bit to find something about Eko Yuli Irawan, what I found is that he is not injured or anything else. he apparently has some problems with their weightlifting federation and is training alone, he didn't participate here because he thinks he is already qualified for Tokyo 2020 ! he needs to participate here or in Colombia to qualify , he doesn't need to lift anything . if he didn't register already for that event in Colombia I believe he lost his chance to qualify. and that will be extremely dumb of him to not qualify this way ! the big question is will he go to Colombia or not. @Griff88 do you know anything more about this ?
  25. Akgul wins the battle of titans 6-1 over Petriashvili. he looked very good here. finally after a while
