  1. no, but participating is compulsory , you can just register and then withdraw, but after the weighin. that's necessary
  2. that's interesting, I didn't read that one. still not confirmed though. an online event sounds like a good idea for Oceania athletes. but that's only for them. not the rest of the world
  3. with results from the Pan-American Championships , I calculated the possible new ranking for 61kg. I tried to be accurate but if you see a mistake, let me know. I removed athletes with just 4 events, because they can't reach max 6 with just 1 event left in Colombia no = didn't participate in the continental champs 1. Li - 4448 ?. Irawan - 4162 (no) -. Qin - 3999 (no) (2nd CHN) -. Thach - 3765 (VIE with 3 doping cases) 2. Mosquera - 3762 (COL with 3 doping cases) 3. Itokazu - 3534 4. Mishvelidze - 3376 -. Laptseu - 3356 (NOC limited to 1) 5. Grozdev - 3323 (NOC limited to 2) 6. Brandhuber - 3284 (also eligible for 67) -. Serna - 3046 (no) (2nd COL) 7. Hardel - 3028 (NOC limited to 2) 8. Son - 3014 (NOC limited to 1) 9. Kao - 3001 10. Garcia - 2992 11. Baru - 2976 (Oceania) -. Mau - 2976 (2nd GER) 12. Al Saleem - 2919 13. Mirzayev - 2848 14. Calderon - 2817 -. Zurita - 2816 (no) 15. Ruiu - 2797 -. Scarantino - 2796 (no) (2nd ITA) -. Onate - 2725 (no) (2nd CUB) -. Vazquez - 2702 (no) 16. Brachi - 2678 * Colombia can be banned from the Olympics, since they have 3 doping cases inside the qualification zone but none of them are sanctioned yet so it seems they have a chance to survive. otherwise they wouldn't host a qualification event. * I'm sure BLR is not going to pick Laptseu, but I'm not sure about BUL, KAZ and TUR, don't know how good they are in other weights. for Kazakhstan it will be between this guy or Bersanov (109kg) I believe Son will go to Tokyo * Baru from PNG can still make it to top 8 and to help Oceania qualify another weightlifter but interestingly there is nobody else from Oceania in the ranking in this weight !! * the best athlete from Africa right now is from Madagascar and he can't make it to top 8. ========== so considering everything, these guys have a better chance to qualify == there are so many variables. Germany can drop Brandhuber for Mau who had a better result in the Euro, Colombia can be banned, Indonesia can still qualify by participating in the last event, Bulgaria and Turkey may try different weights, and some weightlifters still can improve their ranking points in the Colombia event. for example TPE is too close to KAZ for the Asian spot. and the Saudi guy was on fire in Asia, he can do that too.
  4. check this, just one event left in Colombia https://www.iwf.net/competitions/calendar/ and World Junior Champ won't make a difference, unless they let Oceania athletes lift alongside the competition, or something like that. (they did that before so not completely impossible)
  5. per modified rules everybody has to participate in 6 events minimum (at least one in each phase) but one of them should be in the extended period (in 2021, the new period they added after the pandemic) there is just one global event left in Colombia but the registration deadline was long time ago. it's not like they can decide to participate tomorrow! BUT with Oceania Championships being cancelled, IWF may change the rules a bit. they said they sent their proposal to IOC and we will know about that when IOC approves it. maybe (just maybe) they make some changes to lift that new rule. but personally I think they will just make some exceptions for Oceania athletes, and not for everybody. nothing is guaranteed after all.
  6. Startlist for the Pan American Champs https://www.iwf.net/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2021/04/Calendario-Panam-2020.pdf very interesting to see Fernando Reis at 109kg! he was more than 150kg in all of his competitions, how come he can humanly cut more than 40 kg surely a mistake , I don't know by who. bur if they don't fix it, (not sure if that's even possible to change the startlist) that may even cost him the Olympics. (he still can participate in the last event in Colombia but the registration deadline was long time ago)
  7. I believe he is one of the favorites, top 3 probably alongside Saritov and whoever Ukraine sends (only if they send someone better), two European wrestlers will qualify most probably in this weight. it will be between Poland, Romania, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Italy, maybe Germany I was surprised by his poor performance in Hungary, he couldn't penetrate that German guy's defense (maybe just a bad matchup) he was much better today, I mean some people in Russia expect that Zhabrailov guy to challenge Sadulaev. but I'm not sure wrestling here 2-3 weeks before the last chance qualifier was a good idea. this is not Tennis or Badminton where you can participate weekly, you need enough rest between competitions specially if you cut weight (I assume Baran doesn't)
  8. the first day wasn't really "great" , most matches were boring. specially in the semifinal. still some interesting matches, Karadeniz comeback against Odikadze, Gulaev beating Kentchadze (therefore eliminating Russia in that weight) Radoslaw Baran of Poland also did great against the Russian nationals winner Zhabrailov (who is suppose to become the next big thing) and was leading 3-1 until the last 10 seconds but then ... but after all Russia will have 4 in the final 57: Mongush vs Atli 65: Shakhiev vs Bienkowski 70: Kasumov vs Bayramov 79: Gulaev vs Alekma 97: Zhabrailov vs Karadeniz
  9. who picks up the attempts ? coaches or weightlifters themselves ? to me it looked like he had much more in tank, he just didn't have to lift more. I mean apparently he wasn't under pressure to lift more, he only had to beat Huang Minhao. at least that's how I could feel from the competition.
  10. I think so, he is easily top 6, looks like a medal contender in Tokyo considering he is just 21 but still I don't know how they award these wild cards, they don't necessarily give them to the best eligible athletes. btw another 1-2 finish for China, huge margin over the next guy. so I assume Chen Lijun is almost guaranteed a place in Tokyo. to me both Chen and Huang were capable of breaking the World Records here but they didn't attack it because of their own competition. Chen beat Huang by 1kg. but both of them finsihed 6 out of 6. our Pakistani friend somehow fainted in CJ and lost the total bronze by 1kg to Uzbekistan.
  11. but I forgot something, Pakistan is eligible for a wild card and he has done enough to be eligible for that . so our Pakistani friend still can qualify for the Olympics.
  12. His name is not in the ranking, because he missed the 2nd qualification window (2nd half of 2019)
  13. Talha Talib did great in snatch and won the bronze with an impressive 148kg unfortunately for Pakistan, he can't qualify for the Olympics Huang Minhao equaled his Snatch world record of 155kg. he could lift more from what I saw
  14. yes indeed, nobody knows how Chinese coaches will decide about it. they may even end up using the coin toss
  15. no as far as I know, but I might be wrong
  16. Kuo Hsing-Chun broke Snatch and Total World Record to win the gold medal easily at women's 59kg. obviously China is not going to send a weightlifter in this weight their girl lost by 20kg margin to Kuo
  17. brackets are out for the whole freestyle competition interesting note, Geno Petriashvili and Taha Akgul will wrestle right in the first round also Tsabolov has his debut for Serbia here. 74kg will be very interesting with him, Zhamalov and Chamizo.
  18. yeah something like that but the 4th guy was from Uzbekistan. so it wasn't like he was gifted a very easy medal. sometimes even a lucky medal can encourage people in that country to invest more in that specific sport.
  19. men's freestyle medal table 3-3-2 3-2-0 1-2-4 1-1-2 1-0-3 1-0-3 0-1-3 0-1-2 0-0-1 Iran won the team title, but despite winning more gold medals, Kazakhstan lost the 2nd place to India. it was a disappointing tournament for our freestyle team. Iran won only 3 golds which is NOT a good results in 10 weights. but those 3 guys teched all of their opponents and were quite dominant. our 125kg lost by just an accident and he could tech everybody too. we were expecting at least 4 gold medals from these 4 guys but we didn't even achieve that Yazdani despite beating everybody (including world silver medalist Deepak Punia) 10-0 tried a new style. not wasting his whole energy in first 2 minutes. he was calm and just collected points without trying too much. Ghasempour also dominated 92kg, what a pity he is in the same weight as Yazdani and had to try a non-Olympic weight. he is just too good to waste his talent behind Yazdani out of 20 wrestlers we sent here (Freestyle and Greco) only Yazdani will wrestle in Tokyo for sure. Shabani (97kg gold medalist) also has a chance but there will be trials between him and Mohammadian. for the others, they had to win the gold and also be dominant to stand a chance. I assume they missed it, except 125kg guy, they will probably give him another chance.
  20. the old one but this is not final, results from the the Polish tournament will be counted too https://uww.org/sites/default/files/2021-03/201214_ranking_fs_3.pdf https://uww.org/sites/default/files/2021-03/201214_ranking_gr_0.pdf https://uww.org/sites/default/files/2021-03/201214_ranking_ww_1.pdf
  21. nowhere really, I know it sucks IWF used to have a good livescore system 10 years ago. looks like they really "progressed" in all aspects. the only source for the results is the live stream. and if you are lazy to watch the whole thing , just go to the last minutes and see the results
  22. I think this is the first total medal. the same guy won a bronze in CJ last year but those individual lift medals don't really matter. even though I have to say, it was only 4 weightlifters in 55kg. still who cares. that's an achievement for Sri Lanka. ------------ China won two other golds in Olympic weights today, but no World Records. Liao Qiuyun won the women's 55kg by something like 9kg margin. still her records weren't great by Chinese standards. not sure if she secured her place in the Olympic team with that performance. and in the men's side, 61kg turned out to be "very easy" for China. Li Fabin tried the CJ World Record in his last 2 attempts but failed. he was close in his first try. still he won the gold by 26kg margin over someone from Saudi Arabia if Eko Yuli Irawan doesn't participate in Tokyo, nobody is going to threaten Li Fabin in Tokyo @Vic Liu what do you think ? is Li Fabin safe for Tokyo ?
  23. Finalists in second day of freestyle: 61: Turobov vs Askarov 74: Kaipanov vs Hosseinkhani 86: Yazdani vs Deepak 92: Tsogtgerel vs Ghasempour 125: Lazarev vs Boltin it was a very disappointing tournament for our freestyle team. Majid Dastan at 61kg was very poor and Taheri at 125kg lost by pin to someone very weak. he was leading 6-0 and then bang got pinned. we will have 3 in the final but Yazdani and Ghasempour winning the gold was a sure thing even before the tournament. Yazdani is trying a different style here, probably preparing himself to wrestle more than just 1-2 minutes (he usually finishes his matches that fast) I just hope Deepak Punia doesn't chicken out like he had in 2019 worlds. he most probably will lose 10-0 but Yazdani needs more time on the mat. this is his first international tournament in past 2 years! (exactly since the day he beat Deepak by walkover in the worlds final)
  24. can you guess those 4 weights China will participate ? I mean women's competition. Jiang had a crazy 125kg attempt in her last CJ try. desperate try to catch up with her teammate , obviously she failed . I think she was capable of lifting 120-122 to take back her WR again.
  25. I could take a screenshot from the livestream , but here is the total result Hou 213 WR Jiang 207 MIrabi 205 Hou also broke the snatch WR , Mirabi Chanu broke the CJ World Record
