    Very few flights go over Belarus airspace anymore. Can’t see Belarus pulling the kidnapping from a plane trick in Russia’s airspace - Putin won’t want Russian airspace put on an international embargo list just to help his less important ally.

    I’m not sure it’s because of that - but there will simply be more countries that only have athletes of one gender left in the village by Sunday. Everyone who finished competing before Saturday will presumably be gone. Maybe in 2024 they should have two flags per country - representing the new tradition of having two Olympic cauldrons.

    Matt Lawton of the Times is skeptical as if Jacobs is clean due to his fairly sudden improvement. Not sure if I share his suspicions but you can never properly trust anyone in Athletics anymore.

    I didn’t realise Rylov and Kolensikov are both members of a ISL team. Considering that was founded in due to tensions surrounding FINA’s response to doping that surely if the top swimmers thought they were dodgy they would not let them in.

    Why do they do the finals by draw rather than going in qualification order from 8th to 1st which would mean the last one up would be in theory the favourite.

    The poor worldwide ratings for the Games will make getting bidders for 2036 and onwards even harder - it will have a long term impact on the games.
