4th for Dunfee in the men's 20km race walk
To be fair of the 4th I wasn't expecting Dunfee to be anywhere near the top in the 20km.

Track Cycling always feels like a sport Canada should do better in that we do. I think Mitchell would have done better here if Finucane hadn't been on a tear all weekend. Bibic seems like he'll be a medal threat in the Omnium eventually.
Pursuit teams looking good for Olympic qualification, Sprint teams look like they'll probably make the cut-off but not certain.

Peters through to the quarterfinals in men's recurve at WCHs!
Dare I say we could have a medal contender in archery come Paris??
Duenas won a World Championship medal in 2013 and it led to nothing. I'm really really hoping we are able to qualify a men's team, I think its unlikely but there's unpredictability in this sport.

Javier Acevedo posted on Instagram that 2024 will be his last year of swimming. I’m ever hopeful that the mens 4x100m freestyle can win a medal next year but they really are one 47 split short of getting it done atm.

McIntosh will learn from this competition. PBs in both 200 m races (200 fly, 200 free) and rather "off" in the two 400 m races (400 IM, 400 free). The 200 free seems like the most difficult race for her to win next year.
The 400 IM was the third fastest of all time...it’s hardly considered off.

I'm proud of the fact that the men's 4x200m relay took 8 seconds off their time from last year to this year, they didn't make the final but like from one year to the next it is an impressive drop. Should be in the mix for Olympic Qualification

1:53.97 split on the relay for Summer. Everyone else at 1:58-59
There’s lots of potential for this relay to do well once Ruck is back up to form and Oleksiak is back.
If Jansen, O’Cronin or Douthwright can get down to a 1:57 it would be even better overall.

Another Canadian doing a PB with Hugh McNeil in 200m back

I fully expect that to happen. Unfortunately, I don't expect much from Liendo the rest of the meet. Good to watch Kharun get experience at least.
I’m at least intrigued. Liendo still won the 100m Butterfly at the commonwealth games when he was far from his best.
-
The thing I worry about is that many countries seem to have excellent athletes all peaking at the same time.
tbh with how they’ve been swimming I wouldn’t be surprised to see Kharun do better at the 100m fly than Liendo.

I think it was a PB for Dergusoff in the 50 Breast

Don't remember the split but I'm pretty sure McIntosh's leg was the weakest of all of them. That being said, don't know why she was chosen over Savard to swim in the final. When has she ever put up a good 100FR time?
7th should still be enough to qualify for Paris, but yeah we'll need Oleksiak and Smith [& Ruck] to step it up if we want to have a chance. MacNeil and MSH had some great times though.
Her time was 54.99 which really isn’t going to cut it for the lead off leg. MacNeil I think went a career best time but it would be great to have another sub 54 split to bring us back into medal contention.

+ McIntosh went sub 4:00. I know we're used to getting constant PBs/WRs/CRs from her, but 3:59.94 is still an excellent swim. Definitely underwhelming though, was expecting more.
I really wonder if getting her in for both the 400m free and the relay was the issue. Having to conserve energy for the relay may have had something to do with it.
I was a bit concerned about the relay for Paris given the 7th place but like Oleksiak being back and Ruck being more on form should bring the Canadian team back in contention. It would be even better if someone like Rebecca Smith could get back to 2021 form.

I will say that the one good thing to come from the 400 free is that this is the first rough swim for Summer. The adversity had to come at some point. Better to happen now than at the Olympics. Hopefully, it doesn't affect her too much and she can have a great rest of the championships.
I think about Sjostrom and Hosszu who has so much pressure at the 2012 Olympics coming in as favourites and hopefully this can get those jitters out.

Well MacNeil advanced and looked great overall. Then it went downhill after that
The mens 4x100m relay was a highlight too - no medal, but they looked strong. I'm curious if we'll ever see Kahurn on that relay.

Why did we put McIntosh in the relay for her to go 54.99 - well done to McNeil who was the only one who seemed to post a decent time.
-
Well that was pretty much the worst case scenario of McIntosh
-
Impressive prelim session for the Canadians - so great to see so many people hitting personal bests when it counts.

This is a sport I know very little about, are there legitimate more chances for Brooks and Young to qualify for Paris 2024?

Canada will get bronze. This is UNREAL! Massive achievement! Congratulations to my fellow Canadians here!
Ahhhhh! What! This is shocking

My piece of solace is that none of our current top swimmers now won medals in 2018 other than Maggie McNeil.

I probably missed it but is Sage Watson injured or did she retire?
