Emmanuel and Bingham moved on to the semis.

Tyler Mislawchuk is out of the mixed relay; replaced by Alexis Lepage
I’m surprised they could do this because didn’t Canada qualify for that event based on having 4 individuals qualify.

My understanding is that it depends if she got to enter the individual event only because she was a relay swimmer already or because she got a FINA B invite. IIRC relay only swimmers can enter individual events where they have the B cut.
I think she had the A standard from before trials.

Well I guess Acevedo has to swim at some point.
I guess K. Smith will swim breaststroke in the women's medley (otherwise all women's relays get DQed).
K. Smith swam the individual event so she doesn't need to swim the medley...that being said the options for the breast aren't great.

Any info on Canada's start list for the mixed relay tonight?
Acevedo, Mastromatteo, Savard and Smith - not sure they are trying too hard with it but I hope they make the final.

Shady is in the bronze medal bout.
Well it'll be an uphill battle against the two time world champion Jorge Fonseca - although he was clearly having an issue with his thumb and looked a bit off in the semi.

Relay lineup is McIntosh, Smith, Sanchez and Oleksiak. I’m a tad worried about China but this is a solid lineup for us. Australia is front loading with Titmus and McKeon.

From Swimswam:
Update: Katerine Savard has confirmed on Instagram that she won’t swim the final and that the relay will be Oleksiak, McIntosh, Sanchez, and Smith.
In the same Instagram story Savard said she would be swimming the prelims of the mixed medley in the fly.

That would be my pick too.
If Smith can repeat her performance and Sanchez can get into 1:56... then there is a good chance of a medal
They need drop 7.17 seconds to beat the national record. Pickrem was 1:59.82 and Oleksiak was 1:54.7 yesterday from a flat start so that's over 5 seconds right there.
It'll be interesting see what subs China does - they didnt do any for the 4x100m.

so that means sanchez, penny, summer and smith?
Devin Heroux tweeted there would be 3 subs - My guess is that its Sanchez doing the lead off then Smith/McIntosh (maybe reversed) and Oleksiak as the anchor.

Sanchez is swimming really well; for sure it will be a difficult decision

I think Pickrem may just not be in form tbh.
That's what it looks like.... I'm not sure why she would just skip the 200m breast though - it doesnt conflict with other races.

I just realized the Womens 100m free heats/semis are scheduled for the same session as the 4x200 heats/final.
That's why i'm thinking Sanchez may be sitting this relay out.
-
So there's a rumor that Pickrem is going to scratch the 200m breastroke - she may be the answer to this relay conundrum.
-
My guess is that they put Smith, Savard, McIntosh and Oleksiak in the final....they may medal if China underperforms again.

okay good to know, thank you
Adam Kreek did a podcast where he interviewed all the different crews - the one with Smith/Sevick was the most fascinating one. They worked really well together but there was definitely some underlying issues and had to switch coaches like 2 or 3 months ago.

It looks like they never found the right rythym. This boat had coaching issues where they were super unhappy with their coach. Looks like it wasn’t their day.

I'm hoping the momentum from Day 4 will carry over to Day 5 as well. Agreed that the medal chances aren't particularly as strong but there are possibilities.
Curious how this mixed doubles tennis will go...is the Greece team good together or are they seeded because of their combine individual ranking?

Crispin Duenas has advanced to the Ro16 in men's archery.
His first time reaching the Round of 16 in his 4 Olympics!

Yea Pickrem might do the breaststroke for the medley, even if its the final
That seemed to work well at the 2019 World Championships. We'll be fairly even with Australia as they are also lacking a top breastroker.

They really need to fully regroup after this - it was really pretty embarrassing. I wasn't expecting a medal but this did not look anything like the team from Rio.
And Douglas pulling that off is really incredible - she could do this!
