  1. Canada may not be at the top of the judo world, but they are on pace to send one of the larger teams to the Olympics, including currently having a team for the team event. I'd classify them as a "second tier" nation in judo, definitely not on the tier of Japan/Brazil/Russia etc.
  2. In terms of Olympic qualification, all the one person Olympic boats and the Men's C2 1000m will give Olympics quotas. Additionally, despite competing at the African Games, are not eligible to win a quota due to not competing at the World Championships. We also need a minimum of three eligible nations to compete which based on the start lists is fine so hopefully there aren't any mass withdrawals.
  3. I imagine Group F nations may focus on their qualifier rather than the Nations Cup
  4. The easy answer is that the top boat in all non-K4 events will qualify from the Asian qualifier. The long answer is that each nation can only qualify a maximum of two athlete quotas in each category (men's kayak/women's kayak/men's canoe/women's canoe) and a nation can only qualify in one K1 event (regardless of whether or not it was done by two athletes). Also athletes which qualified a quota at the World Championships are not eligible to qualify at the Asian qualifier and a nation cannot attempt to qualify in an event they already qualified in. Using the results from the 2018 Asian Games here is a preview of the favourites (assuming nations prefer 2 athlete quotas over 1) M K1 200m - M K1 1000m - Not held M K2 1000m - M C1 1000m - M C2 1000m - W K1 200m - W K1 500m - W K2 500m - W C1 200m - W C2 500m -
  5. Ukraine has two athletes in the K4 qualified in other events (one in K1 200m and the other in K2 500m)
  6. The wording says that we only move to the next boat size when we are unable to fill the previous boat size. In the 's case we don't as we only need one quota. Of course, this wouldn't be the first time where what is written and what they actually meant is different.
  7. Also shouldn't Sweden have a K1 500m quota thanks to reallocations? 10 athlete quota reallocations -4 (K4 500m) -3 (K4 500m) -2 (K2 500m) -1 (K1 500m)
  8. But they were the next best nation and happen to only need one quota. Just like Denmark only needed three quotas for the women's K4 500m. The only difference is that there were more quotas to be given. Whether this is what the ICF intended is hard to say.
  9. Yeah as Martin Fuksa already qualified in the C1, I think the Czech Republic gets the extra quota for the C2 quota... Really hope the ICF clarifies soon.
  10. To be fair, that was AIBA's fault for not doing gender equality properly. The IOC fixed that
  11. The top 4 continents in the K4 need to be represented. This is done through the World Championships The three best continents (minus Europe) will get a spot to qualify in the K2/C2 events at their respective continental qualifier For K1/C1 events all continents will have a qualifier at the continental level.
  12. No because they can only qualify two athlete quotas, though an athlete which qualified in the C2 can compete in C1
  13. I think Japan keeps its quota unless it qualified in one of those four events. This is different than 2016 where any qualification would cause the removal of the athlete quota from that boat type.
  14. No, double athlete quota obtained in both K1 events will be reallocated to the smaller distance. The pool is only used for athletes which qualified in different boat sizes (K1/K2/K4)
  15. I think this was Belgium's first team title at the European championships
  16. A clear for France and a fence for Italy for their first rider makes things less likely for an upset.
  17. vs in both genders for the Olympic quota Not surprising.
  18. They can start in the K2 as double starters. Basically the point of the boat quota is that the nation must also start in that event (eg. they can't qualify four athletes in the K4 and not compete in that event at the Olympics)
  19. Yes provided that they did not qualify in the K2 event. They can qualify only one athlete quota (or decline the K1 quota) and are not allowed to use any of the five athletes that qualified previously.
  20. Yeah, it's a bit confusing, but I think it's written so a nation won't automatically get four athlete quotas due to the whole one athlete, one quota mantra. At the same time it would be unfair to force a 200m athlete to compete in the 500m event.
  21. While true, they mean they are filling the K4 boats. So lets say the next highest ranked boat had an athlete that already qualified a spot in the K1 event so they would only use three quotas to fill the boat, but should that K1 athlete not compete in the K4 they would be given four athlete quotas
  22. Yeah, so basically, if all five of those nations qualify in the women's K2 and K4 events then two more boats will qualify in K4.
