  1. Yeah, I'm not entirely opposed of different host cities, but 24 hours of sports is not a good idea. Keep it to the 16-18 hour days.
  2. Rather than a last minute decision between people who have failed to qualify in the men's/women's team they are taking this event seriously. This time, it might be a bit too early
  3. Team ranking stopped mattering once IWF stopped using them for Olympic qualification (rightfully so). Iran just needs to get with the times
  4. Spain's men's team is off to a great start.
  5. To be fair, GEO and GEQ are pretty close
  6. Michael Del Zotto? Though it looks like he's in the AHL now...
  7. Hopefully they received actual checks too
  8. Reeves won the women's 71kg.
  9. With the IWF cracking down on doping, North Korea was already the second best nation before Covid. The three-year isolation does make things suspicious. Considering the IWF is now testing them every time they compete (given their results), they are probably clean now. The IWF is on such a short leash that a scandal like this may kill the federation so I imagine they are keeping a watchful eye on them.
  10. Comparing results here to the Olympics, they would be at 2G-2S-0B after four events.
  11. Canada should win more gold medals. As for total medals, I think we have a good chance to win more.
  12. Congrats to Peru. Rather than just investing for 2019 and dropping off, the nation continues to invest in sport years after. Now that they have the 2027 Pan American Games it'll be interesting to see what they can do. Can they close the gap between Argentina/Colombia/Cuba?
  13. Yet I won't be surprised if someone like Nathan MacKinnon will pick up a few awards.

Olympic sports Canoeing, Field Hockey, Golf, Modern Pentathlon, Shooting, Sport Climbing, Tennis, and Weightlifting will not be involved in any matter while the non-Olympic sport of Karate was also dropped. Baseball/Softball, Dancesport, and Wushu are non-Olympic sports which will get to participate in some capacity. 22/31 Olympic sports will be present (surfing has yet to be involved at a Youth Olympics). I know we can't (or should) emulate the Olympic program, but hosts should try to include as many sports as possible, especially the relatively cheaper ones like shooting, sport climbing and weightlifting. The good thing is that it looks like the mixed NOCs events are gone (I think they mentioned this earlier).
  15. Maybe the IWF is thinking the Olympics will increase the number of events to 7 or 8. The non-Olympic events were hurting the sport. Unlike in combat sports where they could hide the drop in talent of the non-Olympic events, weightlifting is a numbers sport and having events where the winner lifted less than the winner of a lower weight category is not a good look.
  16. Well, it was nice being on top for a while, but I believe this will be our last week.
  17. The mind games must have been intense during the C&J
  18. Assuming this is a complete list, I'm surprised swimming only has so few.
  19. Pretty crazy, just imagine if they won the World Baseball Classic (though personally I equate the two pretty closely).
  20. Yeah, in general, the freestyle/classical switches each Olympics.
  21. I believe, the IOC has admitted the cap will have to be relaxed for 2028. I think they will go with what you proposed. 10,500 for core sports plus some for extra sports
  22. If lacrosse can be selected then I don't see why Australian rules football can't be selected if they get Olympic sport recognition. Australia will obviously dominate, but there's enough other nations to make a tournament. As for netball, a women's only event is still much more likely to be accepted than a men's only event. Australia and the netball federation can spin it as bringing equality to the number of men's and women's events (while obviously ignoring that there will be more women at the Olympics).
  23. The US only had about 28 million for Paris 2024. It would take quite the advertising campaign to almost quadruple their viewership, even with a better timeslot.
  24. Way too high. That's Super Bowl numbers for an event that's mostly watching athletes walking in, a bunch of speeches and a few performances sprinkled in. I enjoy it, but I understand most people wouldn't. As a comparison the 1996 Olympics had about 40 million US viewership, adjusting for population that puts it at around 48 million. Throw in fewer people owning a TV and this event not exactly bringing people to bars to watch, I would say if they broke 50 million it would be very successful
