  1. Only thing I can think of is confusion about how to rank the athlete who had a DNF in the A final (i.e. whether to rank him above or bellow the athletes from the B final). DNFs are very rare in short track.
  2. These Olympics would be a bummer even if Canada was doing well tbh. Even Tokyo felt more like proper Olympics.
  3. I think the overall number of medals is pretty decent, just the... quality of them is shit. Didn't expect 11, but I felt like 7 was pretty much the worse case scenario. Woops.
  4. I actually don't think there was a real surprise in snowboarding - Grondin has been very good all year and O'Dine has been due for a breakthrough for a while. The ski jumping bronze medal really should be considered a 7th place when analyzing performances. It's impressive, but it's a 7th place. The alpine medal is also funky given it was in a dying event that might never be held again.
  5. These Olympics keep getting worse every day for . Fifth place in men's team pursuit. Probably the last Olympic race for Ted-Jan Bloemen.
  6. Given current form I am bracing myself for a crushing disappointment in the men's team pursuit. At least there is no way I'll owe anyone money because McLean wins the women's 500m.
  7. Radio-Canada talked about that, there was apparently a camera angle not on broadcast that clearly showed fell because of a clash of blades while even with Canada, which makes this the correct call.
  8. I don't want to jinx anything, but base on what we've seen these Olympics and on the world cup I actually think Canada is a slight favourite in the 5000m relay.
  9. Both Gow brothers and Jules Burnotte qualified for the mass start in biathlon. This matches the most entries Canada has ever had in an Olympic mass start. Biathlon is a sport where Canada has actually done very well these Olympics, at least on the men's side.
  10. This is actually a really great result for Canada, matches the most qualified entries we've ever had in the mass start. Men's biathlon is one of the few sports where I'm actually really happy with the results for .
  11. Short track has been shockingly clean after the first incident-filled days.
  12. Hopefully will be able to develop a competitive short track team after the Liu brothers retire. I'd imagine they have increased the profile of the sport in Hungary quite a bit.
  13. Nice to see an individual gold medal for one of the Liu brothers. Well deserved.
  14. Sarault is def going to be Canada's best short track skater in 2026 (baring injury or early retirement), these games were just a bit early for her I think. Also the entire relay team dropped the ball with a few laps to go, a few of those exchanges were hard to watch.
  15. So first thing tomorrow, Canadian born athletes who spent most of their careers in the Canadian system will have won as many gold medals as team Canada. Yay. Truly pathetic performance ten days in. I really don't see what can salvage Canada's games at this point.
  16. Force of habit. Amazing that there were no penalties in a 3000m relay final. One of the big upsets of these games.
  17. ‘a disaster Olympics continue. We should have boycotted, it would have saved face from this embarrassment. Amazing wire-to-wire win by , you aren’t supposed to be able to do that.
  18. That relay pass by was laughably bad. Also wtf this is literally the first time I have ever seen an illegal relay penalty. It just does not happen.
  19. and haven’t been on the podium together in the relay since 2002. Will they finally play nice and not commit a penalty on one another?
  20. The Paris 2024 twitter account having a laugh over how badly is doing xD
  21. Ya, this definitively felt like an event not quite ready for primetime. I do think monobob (for men and women, actually) would make a lot of sense as a way to protect the ability of countries with smaller bobsleigh programs to compete at the Olympics when the IOC inevitably forced the IBSF to reduce the number of men's quotas.
  22. Being in the same group as is a big advantage in this format.
