  1. Incredible piece of trivia: the only sport where every Canadian athlete competing in Beijing 2022 won a medal is… ski jumping. And it's also the only country who's ski jumpers all won a medal. As we all predicted.
  2. So after all the early struggles still ends up at the top of the short track medal table at these games thanks to wins in both 1500m events. Also, not sure if it was pointed out in this thread but all three women's individual event winners from 2018 successfully defended their titles. Truly astonishing. At least Choi and Shulting should be back to try defending it again in 2026 (Fontana apparently wants to retire due to a dispute with her federation).
  3. Def feels like Canada might have a realistic shot at a men's cross country medal in 2026.
  4. The men's relay was definitively the best gold medal chance had in short track (and the only event in the sport where was the favourite), nice to see it converted. Also, amazing way for Charles Hamelin to end his career, together with the otherwise extremely young men's team.
  5. Not sure what's more embarrassing, losing in the QF or being ranked behind :P
  6. TBH after the first two days short track has been shockingly drama-free. Like, almost world cup-like in terms of incidents.
  7. I have to say, given how great the snowboard slopestyle was, the skiing slopestyle on both the men's and women's side were both quite disappointing. Alex Hall is a worthy winner, however.
  8. Jones is going to give me a heart attack. In the first end it looked like she would probably give up three points after completely whiffing her first shot, but she pulled out a triple takeout out of absolutely nowhere to force the blank. That woman has some mental fortitude.
  9. Old man Joey Mantia finally wins his first Olympic medal at age 36(!).
  10. Another gold for ? Also this isn‘t even the first time this happened this season. had the race won in SLC but fell. Hard one to accept for Nana (I think it was her who fell?).
  11. If you had told me we’d get a Nordic skiing medal, and given me fifteen guesses to try and figure out which one it was, I wouldn’t have gotten it right.
  12. Interestingly enough both and have relatively recent short track transplant who won relay medals in Sochi on their team (Ruslan Zakharov and Valérie Maltais).
  13. Ya, that's why he called it that (it wasn't because happened to be using it in the first SF :P ) That is what I *meant* to write but not what I did write.
  14. The surprise is less that the men lost their SF, but rather that they qualified for the SF in the first place :P
  15. Gaétan Boucher: I said would win easily, shows that I don't know much about speed skating.
  16. and putting down the two fastest men's team pursuit times ever in the SF O.o
  17. Gaétan Boucher christened keeping the same skater in front during the entire race the "Norwegian strategy".
  18. Meanwhile for a lot of countries, including , the team pursuit is *the* race the program wants to win. But that makes sense since everyone who skates for those countries usually train together (Canada has two training groups now, but one of them (Quebec City) is basically a sprint group and the other (Calgary) is essentially the distance group so it works out).
  19. I remember someone asking why wasn't favourite to win both golds in team pursuit. And it's pretty simple, the team pursuit team always punches way bellow it's weight. Except in exactly Sochi. Strategy and teamwork is actually really important, you can't just throw the three fastest skaters together and expect them to win.
  20. Only one Canadian qualifies for the men's ski slopestyle final, in 11th place. Unmitigated disaster.
  21. Some medal related stats, now that snowboarding becomes the 4th sport to conclude (after luge, skeleton and ski jumping): and share top spot in the Beijing 2022 medal standing for Snowboarding. This is the first time these is such a tie for the sport, the first tine leads the medal tally for snowboarding and the 6th time in a row leads the medal tally in snowboarding. extends it's lead atop the all time medal table to nine gold medals more than second place in terms of golds and 18 medals over second place in terms of total medals. , the second best nation all time in snowboarding, wins only one bronze medal. and both move ahead of , who was previously third, in the all time medal table. , and all win their first ever gold medal in the sport. Four continents have now won gold medals in snowboarding. Freestyle skiing and short track are the only other winter sport with that distinction. Snowboarding is also now the only winter sport where more four different continents have two or more countries that have won at least one gold medal. now has four silver medals, the most silver medals a country has ever won in snowboarding without winning gold. and now have five medals, tied all time for most medals won in snowboarding without winning gold with 's previous record. Only one new "NOC" won a medal: . 25 NOCs have now won medals in snowboarding.
  22. Given the anger and controversy Parrot's win over Su in slopestyle caused I really don't see that happening.
  23. Su's win is going to be quite popular after what happened in slopestyle. Maybe the curse caused by Parrot's dubious, knee grab assisted win will be lifted now?
  24. Another bronze xD This is just a joke at this point. Canada will find a way to be bumped down to the bronze medal game in women's hockey at this point.
