  1. VERSTAPEEEEN!!! Too bad that Norris could not keep the fantastical 2nd place. But still, this race was clear advantage Red Bull. Maybe, just maybe this year there might be a champion other than Mercedes?? The real moment of truth of course will be 2022: who can prevail under the new rules?
  2. By the way, this is the Hungarian squad for the Olympics (names in Hungarian order as this is copy paste from a local website) Goalkeepers: Nagy Viktor (Szolnoki Dózsa), Vogel Soma (FTC-Telekom) Field players: Angyal Dániel (Szolnok), Erdélyi Balázs, Hárai Balázs, Manhercz Krisztián (all three OSC), Hosnyánszky Norbert (Budapesti Honvéd SE), Jansik Szilárd, Mezei Tamás, Varga Dénes, Vámos Márton, Zalánki Gergő (all 5 FTC), Pásztor Mátyás (BVSC-Zugló MKB-Euroleasing)
  3. BENU cup preparation tournament - Budapest Featuring and Scores: Hungary - Croatia 11-13 Hungary - Spain 11-11 Hungary - Russia 19-14 Croatia - Russia 21-11 Croatia - Spain 15-11 Spain - Russia 15-11 Don't know the squads of the other participants , I know that Hungary played mostly but not exclusively with the Olympics squad. Judging from these results, it's advantage Croatia v. these teams at least...
  4. Of course I don't even touch the political/social mud-slinging I just express my sincere hope that threads related to the Olympics will not be ruined this way Regarding the format: even Platini (whom I am in no way defending!!) conceived this as an one off. So I don't think anyone has to be concerned about that. The main problem with the format was two fold: first, some geographically outlying venues (mostly Azerbaijan) were selected which complicated things (I know, $/€) Second, more important problem: the group stage+ round of 16 pairs should have been established that teams go to the geographically closest venue (additional issue was that UEFA wanted every team which qualified directly to play all their group stage matches at home) BTW, Considering COVID-19, the tournament went on surprisingly smoothly.
  5. I agree with Olympian 1010 here, shooting is now watchable on television, unlike my old hobby-horse, modern pentathlon... :D :D A question for those involved with CWG issues: is the removal of shooting and archery only for this edition or is it permanent? As I am not familiar with the venues I don't know how credible is the explanation that there are no suitable venues
  6. Wasnt that Chuck Norris in a Gabriel Jesus costume?
  7. As the local commentator said: “we see here that Di Lorenzo suffers of unbearable pain…”
  8. Yes it is written in the article: “Mandy planned her pregnancy according to the Olympic cycle, specifically so she would be ready to compete at these Olympic qualifiers” (probably referring to -later cancelled- qualifiers in early to mid 2020 before the Olympics supposed to happen originally) So this refers to an one off issue which arose because of Covid-19
  9. Wow. If true this would be as unprofessional as the alleged behaviour of some France team members who reportedly watched Netflix and NBA playoffs late into the night during the Euro.
  10. Yes yes yes yes yes! Ultimatum to IWF and throw them out from 2024 even if they refuse to reform. Will be interested to see what happens now with AIBA. They promise to clean up themselves, I dont know how credible is that. At least their new Hungarian sec-gen is a popular (here in this country) former boxer [Kovacs “Koko” Istvan] unlike Ajan, Gyarfas, and similar shady personalities which this country “gave” to the world of international sport governance.
  11. For the moment there's no discovery+ in (according to Wikipedia they will roll it out in the near future here and in cooperation with Vodafone) So I think for those countries (and others with no D+) the streams will be on ES player. edit: this obviously doesnt help Irish users with the question I just wrote for other ppl who might be having the same Q
  12. In the CEE region I think it's 24.99 euro for everyone, at least this is the amount I am paying since 2018. If Nenad is located in Serbia I assume this will be the amount for him as well (but I might be wrong)
  13. Weightlifting’s Olympic future in balance after IWF Congress stalemate (insidethegames.biz) If the so-called "old guard" dont come to their sense the IOC has to make good on their threats. Unfortunately that means the (non doping) athletes will suffer. An alternative federation may make sense but dont know if it can be legally done. Saddest thing of them all that IMO, the ******** Ajan will get away with all he had done (unless it is somehow possible to initiate legal proceedings against him at a non Hungarian court). More likely than not he will "retire" and maybe, like many exiled dictators, will publicly insist on his innocence until the end.
  14. Cool drawing about the Group F. The guy in the background is Hungary coach Marco Rossi and the caption is : “See you soon at the beach! / Ci vediamo in spiaggia! “
  15. Actually Löw should have been fired after the 2018 debacle, but this is now down the river. The eventual new manager/coach has 3 years to build a competitive team in time for the German-held next Euro.
  16. Interesting collection of trolls we have here. (TO, not just this topic) A provocator (whose name shall not be uttered) who enjoys posting reactionary (not simply conservative) social and political views and turning every topic into a political mudslinging fest. Then someone who apparently believes that “eastern europeans” are 1. so ignorant about the world outside Europe that they dont even know what happens there and 2. are obsessed with speaking out against participation of non European nations in certain sports. I see some lack of consistency here but its maybe just me. Personally I would support increasing the field to 12 teams, thereby matching the male field. It would ensure that a. every continent is represented with at least 1 team and b. every “major” team of the sport has a chance to be there if qualify. 2 additional teams is 24 additional athletes, just cut it from modern pentathlon or whatever.
  17. From the real existing Olympics: Barcelona, London, Sydney From potential future hosts: agree with Madrid, looking forward to Paris, and in some point in the future, Istanbul would be also an interesting host (for the moment they are far from being in the position to organise an Olympics) From the CEE region (excluding Russia) Prague might be the most suitable candidate. Budapest might have (now or in the near future) more or better high level venues (such as the Puskas Arena, the 2022 handball arena, or the 2023 athletics stadium) but in overall infrastructure, Prague wins hands down (especially in public transport, which is essential to hold a non-corona Olympics)
  18. When I saw that Provocator is again hard at work I did not read back either. But I assume the discussion has to do with IOC Rule 50 "The IOC's Rule 50 forbids any kind of "demonstration or political, religious or racial propaganda" at venues and any other Olympic area." In other words, how this rule has to be interpreted (what is a demonstration, political, religious or race related propaganda) and/or whether it is good or not that this rule exists.
  19. Read it in full. Its worth reading not very long (apart from the appendixes and summary its about 35 pgs) The e-mails quoted verbatim are pure gold!
  20. I believed the nadir was the canoe/kayak commentary on Hungarian TV in 2016 (?) when the commentator mixed up the start lists of two events (this was a final where Hungarian competitors were involved) and only realized at 500 meter from 1000 meters that he has the wrong startlist. But this one is even better…
  21. Then, hopefully, it will be on Eurosport Player instead. For me its the same (if I remember correctly, ESP was doing this for 2018 olympics)
  22. Yes, same with me. ESP on the ready. With regards to local Hungarian coverage, I hope the local broadcaster (M4 Sport) makes available all the streams on their website (during Rio there were 12 or so different streams) The main coverage is probably again 2 channels (M4 and M4+) as it was back then.
  23. Even more so that a certain well known cheater is no longer in the field..... :D
  24. Please stop this madness! I was thinking long and hard about writing this post for a number of days but decided to do it anyway, with view to the Tokyo Olympics and the discussion threads which hopefully will be very active. Simply put, there should be a part of this forum where discussion is restricted to sport related discussion even though politics and/or social activism and sport cannot always be strictly separated. There should be a separate thread (e.g. "Social activism at the 2020 Olympics" or "Social activism at the UEFA Euro 2020" or similar) where these discussions can take place, or (the admittedly toxic) Politics Thread should also be used for that purpose. More often than not, above mentioned political/social discussions have been nothing more than sterile, uproductive mud-slinging, or periodic exposition of each other's views talking past each other. The only result is the ruination of the threads where they occur, potentially causing users who dont want to participate in or even reading such discussions, to avoid the (sport / event related) threads concerned. On a personal note moreover, there are a number of us whose (mostly psychological but sometimes also physical) wellbeing is directly impacted by the political situation in our respective countries, and some of us may not want to read about all this sh*t even on a sport related thread in a sport forum. In this forum in particular, most of similar discussions usually (but not always) involve one particular nick (everyone knows who), versus other people trying to convince him/her, or arguing with him/her. These efforts are more often than not, unproductive, and lead to the aforementioned result. Before anyone starts yelling "censorship" or "cancel culture", I dont want to censor anyone, just propose to have its own topic(s) for this kind of discussion. And during the Olympics, to have the sport/discipline related threads for ontopic posts and not for lengthy discussion about whether is good or not good to speak/otherwise act by athlete X about cause Y, or whether cause Y has or hasn't any merit.
