The shitshow continues in the pro league: Argentina-Germany men's match was not played because of rain and will not be reprogrammed or anything: it's declared a 0-0 tie (in a tournament with no real ties). Every match has 3 points for taking (be it the full 3 if you win or 2&1 if it goes to penalties), but both teams here were given 1 point, so they both lost 1 point for something that isn't either team's fault! This alone screws up the entire competition if one of them is narrowly left outside the top 4 at the end of round robin phase. The worst thing however is one rule of the competition I learned today: if a match is cancelled (due to rain for example) during the first 3 quarters then it's declared a tie no matter what the score is! this is absurd, imagine if you are winning 5-0 and the match is suspended in the final minute of the 3rd quarter, it's a tie only if the match is cancelled during the 4th quarter then the current result of that match stands as the final result. BTW Argentina-Germany women's game was suspended 4 (!) times during play and finally ended after 3 long hours. The teams did everything they could to avoid the match getting cancelled and accepted to play the last quarter in absolutely ridiculous conditions as a result. The final 8 minutes were both teams just overhead-flicking the ball into opponent territory because it was almost impossible to advance with short passes. How can you play like this? please FIH, sort out your bullshit rules...

I would say though that there is some general underappreciation of the games in the anglo countries. I don't understand the lack of interest in athletics in particular. World championship is usually held like a month or more after the games and the level from latinamerican countries is quite high in many events unlike swimming for example. Even Jamaica doesn't take it seriously and they could need those gold medals in their tally.

Sports in which USA usually sends the best athletes available: Archery, Artistic Swimming, Badminton, Canoeing, Cycling except Road, Equestrian, Fencing, Hockey, Gymnastics except artistic, Handball, Judo, Pentathlon, Rugby, Sailing, Shooting, Table tennis, Taekwondo, Water Polo, Weightlifting, Wrestling Basically everything in which they aren't too dominant at continental level or that gives qualification to olympic games. I think the only exception would be Fencing.

It was the right call. However the obstruction rules are such fucking bullshit, they should be scrapped entirely. Unless you are grabbing the keeper nothing should be called (I know this was an offside call, but it was offside because there was an obstruction). It's the same in other sports like rugby and field hockey, so many great tries/goals called back just because some dude was casually standing in front of an opponent player, so it's an "obstruction".

It must suck to go to every major tournament knowing that you never depend on yourself to have a good performance. And Muki is quite good, so chances for Iran to win a medal at the olympics are very complicated. If he reaches QF in any tournament it's over for Mollaei (barring an unlikely combination of brackets + results).

Well, in totallympics medal table has even more: 12-12-15... Often in these predictions/projections/whateveryoucallthem the big nations have inflated counts because many smaller nations start caring when the olympics are close (cuz funding only appears then, etc).
