phelps 6,862 Posted December 7, 2018 #52 Share Posted December 7, 2018 (edited) World Championships are gone, Premier League is over...but the year 2018 still has something to show in Karate... it's the Shanghai stage of the Karate 1 Serie A (2nd tier competition behind the K1 Premier League)... and because this tournament is going to award some useful points in the race towards Karate's Olympic debut in Tokyo, many "big names" decided to take part, despite the unhappy period chosen for it... by the way, this is a recap of today's action (Gold Medal matches only, as the repechage trees have not been completed -or at least, there's no result for them on the WKF website)... women's Kata: Viviana Bottaro vs Sandra Sanchez Jaime women's Kumite, -50kg: Bettina Plank vs Gulsen Demirturk women's Kumite, -55kg: Fumika Ishiai vs Anzhelika Terliuga men's Kata: Damian Hugo Quintero Capdevila vs Yuda Ahmad Zigi Zaresta men's Kumite, -67kg: Vinicius Figueira vs Alì Ismail Edited December 7, 2018 by phelps thepharoah
MHSN 3,221 Posted December 7, 2018 #53 Share Posted December 7, 2018 wow ! I thought we won't have a competitor here. instead the number of Iranians here are even bigger than the number of Chinese athletes probably and except 2-3 like Derafshipour, Mehdizadeh and Poursheib I never ever heard of their names ! how the hell they let everybody to participate under the Iran's flag ? looks like anybody who could pay the trip is there. for example at 75kg we had 9 Iranians in the draw and the Brazilian guy Figueira had to beat 3 of them on his way to the final
thepharoah 2,287 Posted December 7, 2018 Author #54 Share Posted December 7, 2018 Aly Ismael is a huge surprise for me and a good one ofc i've never heard about him before today and even i thought that he's Aly el sawy at first and they just changed the last name he defeated many players on his way to final including the European champion this year 9-1 so he looks like a promising talent to use in next year , i'm also happy that some new names found their places at NT as i think it happened late but better at least it did happen
